EVIL PREDICTION WILL NOT STAND

EVIL PREDICTION WILL NOT STAND

Background Text: 1 Kings 19:1-4, 2 Kings 2:11

By Rev Samuel Arimoro

INTRODUCTION
Evil predictions are negative pronouncements or declarations made by individuals, spirits, or forces against a person, group, or nation with the intention of causing fear, harm, or destruction. However, as believers, we have the assurance that no weapon formed against us shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). The story of Elijah and Jezebel illustrates how an evil prediction by the enemy did not come to pass. Jezebel swore to kill Elijah, but instead, Elijah was taken to heaven without tasting physical death. This sermon will explore how God nullifies evil predictions and secures the destinies of His people.

1.   THE STORY OF ELIJAH AND JEZEBEL'S PREDICTION
   Background:
After Elijah's victory over the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel, Jezebel sent a threatening message to Elijah saying, “May the gods deal with me, be it ever so severely, if by this time tomorrow I do not make your life like that of one of them” (1 Kings 19:2). This was an evil prediction meant to instill fear and cause Elijah's demise.

   Elijah's Response
Elijah fled in fear and went into hiding, feeling dejected and wanting to die (1 Kings 19:3-4). Despite this, God had a different plan. Elijah did not die by Jezebel's decree; instead, he was taken up to heaven by a whirlwind (2 Kings 2:11).

   Lesson:
No matter how threatening or certain an evil prediction may appear, it cannot stand against God's purpose for our lives.

2.  BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF EVIL PREDICTIONS NULLIFIED

Haman's Evil Plan Against Mordecai and the Jews (Esther 3-7):
Haman predicted the annihilation of the Jews and even built gallows to hang Mordecai. However, his plans were reversed, and he himself was hanged on the same gallows (Esther 7:9-10). God's intervention nullified Haman's evil prediction.

Balak and Balaam's Attempt to Curse Israel (Numbers 22-24) Balak hired Balaam to curse Israel, predicting their downfall. However, God turned the intended curse into blessings. Balaam declared, “How can I curse those whom God has not cursed? How can I denounce those whom the Lord has not denounced?”  (Numbers 23:8). The evil prediction could not stand because of God's protection.

The Plot to Destroy Daniel (Daniel 6):
The governors and satraps predicted Daniel's death by having him thrown into the lions' den. However, God shut the lions' mouths, and Daniel was unharmed. Instead, his accusers were destroyed by the very same lions (Daniel 6:24).

Sanballat and Tobiah’s Prediction Against Nehemiah (Nehemiah 4:1-3, 6:1-14):
Sanballat and Tobiah predicted the failure of Nehemiah's efforts to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. Despite their mocking and plotting, the walls were completed in 52 days because God frustrated their plans (Nehemiah 6:15-16).

3.  WHY EVIL PREDICTIONS WILL NOT STAND

   God's Sovereignty:
God is in absolute control over the affairs of men. He declares the end from the beginning, and His counsel will stand (Isaiah 46:10).

God’s Protection Over His People
Psalm 91:10 declares, “No evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling.” God's hedge of protection nullifies evil predictions.

God's Power to Reverse and Overturn
God can reverse any evil plan or prediction, as seen in Esther 9:1 where the Jews gained mastery over those who hated them.

The Covenant of God:
Believers are in a covenant relationship with God. Evil predictions cannot override the covenant of God’s blessing, protection, and guidance (Psalm 105:15).

4.   HOW TO STAND AGAINST EVIL PREDICTIONS

   Faith in God’s Word:
Stand firm on the promises of God and declare them over every situation.
   Prayer and Fasting:
Engage in fervent prayer and fasting to dismantle the plans of the enemy (Mark 9:29).

  Prophetic Declarations:
Speak life and declare God's promises boldly (Job 22:28).

  Living a Life of Righteousnes
Righteousness exalts and shields (Proverbs 14:34; Psalm 34:7).

   Seeking Divine Guidance:
Seek God's direction and follow His leading, just as Elijah did after receiving God's instructions (1 Kings 19:15-18).

CONCLUSION
Jezebel's prediction against Elijah did not stand. Similarly, any evil prediction against your life, family, ministry, or destiny will not stand in Jesus' name. As children of God, we are under divine protection. No evil pronouncement, curse, or prediction can prevail against God's purpose for our lives. We must remain vigilant in prayer, unwavering in faith, and steadfast in our walk with God.
