TITLE: MONTH OF TOTAL DOMINION
By Rev. Samuel Arimoro
Main Text: Psalm 8:6
Supporting Texts: Genesis 1:26-28, Luke 10:19, Romans 6:14
INTRODUCTION
Dominion is a key aspect of God's original plan for humanity. From the beginning, God gave man authority and control over all creation. He bestowed upon us the mandate to rule and reign over the works of His hands. However, due to the fall of man, this dominion was compromised. But through Christ, total dominion is restored, and we are called to walk in this authority.
This month, God is calling us to step into total dominion—dominion over sin, over circumstances, over the powers of darkness, and in every area of life. The time to reign has come, and it is important to understand how to activate and walk in this dominion.
---
1. UNDERSTANDING DOMINION
a) Dominion is God’s Mandate for Mankind
From the beginning, God created us to have dominion. Genesis 1:26-28 says, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth...” This is a divine mandate to govern the earth under God's authority.
b) Dominion Through Christ
Sin interrupted humanity’s authority, but Jesus came to restore our dominion. In Luke 10:19, Jesus said, “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy.” This means through Christ, we are empowered to walk in authority over all opposition.
Biblical Example: Adam’s Lost Dominion Restored by Jesus
While Adam’s disobedience led to the loss of dominion, Jesus’ obedience through His death and resurrection restored the power and authority that was lost (Romans 5:17). This restoration allows believers to reign in life through Christ.
2. AREAS OF TOTAL DOMINION
a) Dominion Over Sin
Sin no longer has dominion over us. Romans 6:14 declares, "For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace." Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we can live above sin and overcome every temptation.
b) Dominion Over Circumstances
We are called to exercise dominion over the situations and challenges of life. The Bible says that all things are under our feet (Psalm 8:6). No matter what we face—be it financial, health, or relational issues—God has given us the authority to overcome.
Biblical Example: Joshua’s Victory Over Jericho (Joshua 6:1-20)
Joshua and the Israelites exercised dominion over the strong city of Jericho by following God’s instructions. Despite the fortified walls, they took control of the city through faith and obedience, demonstrating God's power to give victory over circumstances.
3. WALKING IN TOTAL DOMINION
a) Knowing Your Identity in Christ
To walk in dominion, you must first know who you are in Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” Your new identity in Christ gives you access to the authority and dominion that comes from Him.
b) Exercising Faith and Boldness
Faith is a key to walking in dominion. Hebrews 11:6 reminds us that without faith, it is impossible to please God. We must believe that God has given us the authority to trample upon every power of the enemy and act boldly in that authority.
Biblical Example: David’s Dominion Over Goliath (1 Samuel 17:45-50)
David exercised dominion over Goliath not because of his physical strength but because of his confidence in God’s power. He declared victory over the giant before the battle even began. This shows the importance of speaking and acting in faith to take dominion.
4. ACTIVATING DOMINION THROUGH PRAYER AND DECLARATION
a) The Power of Declarations
Proverbs 18:21 reminds us that the power of life and death is in the tongue. To walk in dominion, we must speak what God says about us. As we declare the Word of God, we align ourselves with His will and activate His power in our lives.
b) Praying with Authority
Prayer is one of the most powerful tools to exercise dominion. In Matthew 18:18, Jesus said, "Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." This means we have the authority to bind the works of the enemy and release God's will into our situations.
Biblical Example: Elijah’s Prayer for Rain (1 Kings 18:41-45)
Elijah exercised dominion through prayer when he called for rain after a long drought. His prayer of faith brought a shift in the natural environment, demonstrating the power of prayer to change situations.
CONCLUSION
Total dominion is God's will for every believer. It is not reserved for a few but is a divine mandate for all who are in Christ. As we step into this month of total dominion, let us remember that we have been equipped with the authority to overcome every obstacle, every challenge, and every opposition. Let us walk boldly in the authority Christ has given us and experience His dominion in every area of our lives.
