GREATNESS IS MY PORTION

Title: GREATNESS IS MY PORTION

Main Text: Genesis 12:2 - "I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing."

By Rev Samuel Arimoro

INTRODUCTION

Greatness is not an accident; it is the result of divine purpose and destiny. God has destined His children to be great and to make an impact on the earth. In Genesis 12:2, God promised Abraham that He would make him a great nation, bless him, and make his name great. As heirs of Abraham through faith, greatness is also our portion. This sermon explores what it means to walk in greatness, the biblical keys to achieving it, and how to ensure that greatness remains a reality in our lives.

1. THE CALL TO GREATNESS

a) God's Promise of Greatness (Genesis 12:2)
God’s promise to Abraham was not only for him but also for his descendants. As believers, we are partakers of this covenant of greatness through faith in Christ. Just as God made Abraham’s name great, He desires to do the same for us. Greatness is part of our spiritual inheritance.

b) Greatness Through Obedience (Genesis 22:18)
Abraham’s greatness was also a result of his obedience to God. Obedience is a key that unlocks the blessings of God. The Bible says that through his obedience, "all nations on earth will be blessed." Walking in greatness requires total obedience to God’s instructions, no matter how difficult they may seem.

c) Greatness Requires Divine Positioning (Genesis 13:14-15)
After Lot separated from Abraham, God gave Abraham a fresh vision of the land He promised him. Sometimes, greatness requires separation and divine positioning. To achieve the greatness God has for us, we must be willing to be where God wants us to be and do what He wants us to do.

2. KEYS TO UNLOCKING GREATNESS

a) Discovering Purpose (Jeremiah 29:11)
God’s plans for us are of good and not of evil, to give us a future and a hope. The first step to walking in greatness is discovering God’s purpose for your life. Once you align yourself with God's plan, greatness becomes inevitable.

b) Faith and Courage (Joshua 1:7-9)
To walk in greatness, you must possess faith and courage. God told Joshua to be strong and courageous in order to lead Israel to the Promised Land. Greatness is never achieved without challenges, but with faith and courage, you can overcome every obstacle.

c) Diligence and Excellence (Proverbs 22:29)
“Do you see a man diligent in his business? He shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.” Greatness is also a product of diligence and excellence. When you work hard and do things with a spirit of excellence, you will stand out and be recognized.

3. BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF GREATNESS

**a) Joseph: From Prison to Palace (Genesis 41:41-43)**
Joseph is a classic example of how God can turn a difficult situation into greatness. Despite being sold into slavery and falsely imprisoned, Joseph remained faithful to God. His ability to interpret Pharaoh’s dream brought him from prison to becoming the prime minister of Egypt.

b) David: From Shepherd Boy to King (1 Samuel 16:11-13; 2 Samuel 5:1-3)
David started as a shepherd boy, but his faith, courage, and trust in God elevated him to be the king of Israel. His story shows that greatness often comes from humble beginnings and that God can raise anyone up to achieve great things.

c) Esther: From Orphan to Queen (Esther 2:17)
Esther, an orphan girl, became a queen and was positioned by God to save her people. Her story shows that when God has destined you for greatness, nothing can stop it. She had the courage to speak up and take action, which led to the deliverance of the Jews.

4. THE MANIFESTATION OF GREATNESS

a) Greatness as Influence (Matthew 5:14-16)
Jesus said we are the light of the world and a city set on a hill that cannot be hidden. Greatness is not just about titles or positions; it is about influence. As believers, we are called to be salt and light, influencing our world for Christ.

b) Greatness Through Service (Mark 10:43-45)
Jesus taught that whoever wants to be great must be a servant. Greatness in the kingdom of God is not measured by how many people serve you but by how many people you serve. True greatness comes from humble service and giving to others.

c) The Glory of Greatness (Isaiah 60:1-3)
When you walk in greatness, the glory of God will shine upon you, and people will be drawn to His light in you. Isaiah 60 speaks of a time when the light and glory of God will shine on His people, causing kings to come to their rising.

5. MAINTAINING YOUR GREATNESS

**a) Stay Humble (James 4:10)**
God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. To maintain greatness, humility is essential. Always remember that it is God who promotes, and without Him, we are nothing.

b) Remain Connected to God (John 15:5)
Jesus said, "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit." Our greatness is tied to our connection with God. Stay in His Word, maintain a prayerful life,  stay close to Him.

c) Continue to Seek God’s Will (Matthew 6:33)
Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. As long as you continue to seek God’s will and put Him first, greatness will follow you.

CONCLUSION
Greatness is not just a distant dream but a reality for every child of God who aligns with His purpose, walks in obedience, and remains diligent. You are destined for greatness, and nothing can stop what God has purposed for you. Declare today, "Greatness is my portion," and begin to walk in that reality with faith, courage, and trust in God.
