INTRODUCTION
God has ordained seasons of overflow for His children. A season of overflow is a time of supernatural abundance, where God's blessings flow beyond what you can imagine. It is a time when your cup runs over, and you experience God’s provision in every area of life. Psalm 23:5 declares that God prepares a table before us in the presence of our enemies, anoints our heads with oil, and causes our cups to overflow. This message explores the characteristics of a season of overflow and how to walk into it through faith and obedience.
1. UNDERSTANDING THE SEASON OF OVERFLOW
a) God's Desire for Abundance
God's desire is for His children to live in abundance. John 10:10 tells us that Jesus came to give life and give it more abundantly. This overflow is not just about material wealth but about peace, joy, health, spiritual blessings, and favour. God is a God of overflow, and He desires for us to experience it in every area of our lives.
b) Overflow Comes from God’s Presence
Overflow is the result of being in God’s presence. When you dwell in the presence of God, you are connected to the source of all blessings. Psalm 16:11 says, "In Your presence there is fullness of joy." The fullness that comes from God’s presence leads to overflow in every part of life.
Biblical Example: The Widow's Oil (2 Kings 4:1-7)
The widow came to Elisha with just a little oil, but God multiplied it until every jar was filled to overflow. This miracle happened because she obeyed the word of the prophet and trusted God with what she had. In your season of overflow, God will take the little you have and multiply it supernaturally.
2. STEPS TO ENTERING YOUR SEASON OF OVERFLOW
a) Trust and Obey God
One of the keys to walking into your season of overflow is obedience. In Malachi 3:10, God promises to open the windows of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to contain it. But this promise is tied to our obedience in tithes and offerings. Trusting and obeying God positions us for overflow.
b) Sow in Faith
A season of overflow often begins with sowing in faith. 2 Corinthians 9:6-8 teaches us the principle of sowing and reaping. The more you sow, the more you reap. To experience overflow, you must sow generously, not just financially but in your time, talents, and service to God and others.
Biblical Example: Isaac's Harvest (Genesis 26:12-14)
In a time of famine, Isaac sowed in the land, and in the same year, he reaped a hundredfold because the Lord blessed him. Even in difficult times, sowing in faith can trigger a season of supernatural overflow.
3. THE BLESSINGS OF OVERFLOW
a) Overflow of Resources
God promises that your storehouses will overflow when you honour Him. Proverbs 3:9-10 says, "Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing." As you honour God with your resources, He will bless you with more than enough.
b) Overflow of Grace and Favour
In addition to material blessings, God pours out an overflow of grace and favors upon His people. 2 Corinthians 9:8 says that God is able to bless you abundantly so that in all things, at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. In your season of overflow, you will experience favour in every area of your life, including relationships, career, and ministry.
Biblical Example: Peter's Net Breaking Catch (Luke 5:4-7)
After a long night of fruitless labour, Jesus instructed Peter to let down his nets for a catch. Peter obeyed, and the result was an overflow of fish that filled two boats to the point of sinking. In your season of overflow, God will bring blessings that exceed your expectations.
4. EXPECTATIONS IN A SEASON OF OVERFLOW
a) Enlarged Capacity
In your season of overflow, God will enlarge your capacity to receive and manage His blessings. Isaiah 54:2-3 calls us to "enlarge the place of your tent." To handle overflow, you must prepare for it by increasing your capacity—spiritually, mentally, and even physically.
b) Overflow as a Blessing to Others
Overflow is not just for you; it’s also meant to bless others. When God blesses you abundantly, He expects you to be a channel of blessing. In Genesis 12:2, God told Abraham, "I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing." Your overflow is designed to impact those around you.
Biblical Example: Joseph’s Leadership in Egypt (Genesis 41:46-49)
Joseph experienced overflow during the years of plenty in Egypt. Because of his wisdom and obedience to God, he stored up grain and was able to provide for nations during the years of famine. In your season of overflow, God will use you as a vessel to bless others.
5. OBSTACLES TO EXPERIENCING OVERFLOW
a) Lack of Faith
Unbelief can hinder you from walking in your season of overflow. Hebrews 11:6 tells us that without faith, it is impossible to please God. In order to experience overflow, you must believe that God is able and willing to bless you beyond measure.
b) Disobedience
Disobedience is a major barrier to overflow. When we disobey God’s instructions, we limit His ability to bless us. Deuteronomy 28:1-2 says that blessings come to those who diligently obey the Lord’s commandments.
Biblical Example: The Israelites’ Missed Opportunity (Numbers 13:26-33)
The Israelites missed their opportunity to enter the Promised Land because they doubted God’s ability to give them victory. Instead of trusting God’s promise of overflow, they focused on their fears and missed their season of blessing.
CONCLUSION
God desires for you to walk in a season of overflow, where His blessings flow into every area of your life. As you trust and obey Him, sow in faith, and prepare for enlargement, you will experience abundance beyond your imagination. Remember, overflow is not just for your benefit; it’s also for the benefit of others. Let your season of overflow be a testimony of God’s faithfulness and a source of blessing to those around you.
