UNDERSTANDING YOUR DIVINE IDENTITY IN CHRIST

Title: UNDERSTANDING YOUR DIVINE IDENTITY IN CHRIST

By Rev Samuel Arimoro

Main Text:  Psalm 82:6 - "I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High."

INTRODUCTION
In a world full of identity crises, it is crucial for believers to understand who they are in Christ. Knowing your identity in God transforms how you see yourself and how you respond to life's challenges. The Bible tells us in Psalm 82:6 that we are "gods" and "children of the Most High." This declaration is not just about titles; it reveals our divine nature and authority as children of God. This sermon aims to uncover the depths of our identity in Christ and how we can walk in the fullness of that identity.

1. You are a God, so Dominate
The Bible states that we are "gods," not to equate us with God Almighty, but to signify that we are His representatives on earth. Genesis 1:26-28 shows that God gave humans dominion over the earth. As children of God, we have divine authority to rule, govern, and take charge. The world may be full of chaos, but when you know who you are, you dominate situations, not the other way around. As a "god," you have the power to subdue and bring order wherever you go.

2. You Cannot Be Defeated
Romans 8:37 assures us, "In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us." The nature of a child of God is victory. We may face battles and challenges, but because we are in Christ, we are already victorious. The enemy may try to attack, but because we are children of the Most High, we cannot be defeated. Remember, no weapon formed against you shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17).

3. You are a Burning Fire
Hebrews 12:29 tells us, "For our God is a consuming fire." As His children, we too embody this consuming fire. When we know who we are, we carry a spiritual fire that destroys the works of darkness and ignites revival wherever we go. The fire of God in us consumes anything that is not of Him. This fire sets us apart and causes us to shine brightly in a dark world.

4. You are God's Beloved Child
Romans 8:16 says, "The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God." We are not orphans; we are deeply loved by God. Being God's beloved child means we are heirs of His promises and possess His love, care, and protection. As His beloved, we walk confidently, knowing that we are precious in His sight, and nothing can separate us from His love (Romans 8:38-39).

5. You Carry God's DNA
2 Peter 1:4 declares that we are "partakers of the divine nature." This means we carry God's spiritual DNA. When we accept Christ, we become a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17), infused with His attributes. We carry the ability to love, forgive, create, and manifest His glory. The divine DNA empowers us to live above sin, walk in authority, and represent God on earth.

6. You are Hidden in Christ
Colossians 3:3 states, "For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God." To be hidden in Christ means to be protected, preserved, and covered by His presence. This identity gives us confidence in the face of trials because we know that God is our shield. Being hidden in Christ means that no matter what comes against us, we are safe, secure, and victorious under His shadow.

CONCLUSION

Understanding who you are in Christ is fundamental to living a victorious Christian life. When you know your identity as a child of God, it shapes your mindset, actions, and destiny. You are not ordinary; you are extraordinary. You are a god meant to dominate, a conqueror who cannot be defeated, a burning fire that cannot be quenched, and a beloved child of God who carries His DNA. May you walk in the fullness of who you are in Christ, and may your life be a testament to the greatness of God.
