INTRODUCTION:
Life often presents moments of stagnation, disappointment, or loss, leaving us in need of a fresh start. Our God is a God of new beginnings, who specialises in turning despair into hope, failure into success, and death into life. This sermon explores how we can encounter God’s power for a new beginning and walk confidently in His renewed purpose for our lives.
1. GOD IS THE CREATOR OF NEW BEGINNINGS
a) He creates something out of nothing
In Genesis 1:1-3, God created the heavens and the earth out of a void, bringing order out of chaos.
b) He brings light into darkness
God's first act of creation was to command light to shine, symbolising His power to dispel darkness in our lives.
c) He breathes life into dry bones
In Ezekiel 37:1-10, God transformed a valley of dry bones into a mighty army, signifying restoration and renewal.
d) He turns failure into success
Peter's fishing failure turned into abundance when he obeyed Jesus’ command (Luke 5:1-6).
Biblical Example: Hannah’s barrenness turned into motherhood through divine intervention (1 Samuel 1:19-20).
2. GOD MAKES ALL THINGS NEW
a) New beginnings through salvation
In 2 Corinthians 5:17, we are reminded that anyone in Christ is a new creation, with old things passing away.
b) He renews our strength
Isaiah 40:31 declares that those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength and soar like eagles.
c) He restores lost years
Joel 2:25 speaks of God’s promise to restore the years the locusts have eaten.
d) He rewrites our story
Jabez’s prayer changed his life story, enlarging his territory and removing sorrow (1 Chronicles 4:9-10).
Biblical Example: Naomi's life was renewed when God restored her family through Ruth (Ruth 4:13-17)
3. STEPS TO EXPERIENCE A NEW BEGINNING
a) Forget the past
Isaiah 43:18 urges us not to dwell on former things but to embrace the new.
b) Believe in God’s promises
Hebrews 11:6 reminds us that faith is key to accessing God’s blessings.
c) Commit your ways to God
Proverbs 3:5-6 instructs us to trust in the Lord with all our heart and lean not on our understanding.
d) Obey God’s instructions
Abraham’s obedience led to a new beginning as the father of many nations (Genesis 12:1-3).
Biblical Example: Paul’s encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus marked a transformative new beginning (Acts 9:3-6).
4. THE BENEFITS OF A NEW BEGINNING
a) Renewed purpose and direction
God gives clarity and a fresh mission (Jeremiah 29:11).
b) Restored joy and peace
Psalm 30:5 reminds us that weeping endures for a night, but joy comes in the morning.
c) Divine favour and provision
In Exodus 16:4-15, God provided manna as sustenance for the Israelites.
d) Supernatural acceleration
Joseph’s journey from the prison to the palace demonstrates how God’s new beginnings often come with divine speed (Genesis 41:39-41).
Biblical Example: The woman at the well received salvation and became an evangelist, leading others to Jesus (John 4:28-30).
