MAKING ROOM FOR CHRIST

Title: MAKING ROOM FOR CHRIST

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: Luke 2:7
Supporting Texts: Revelation 3:20, John 1:11-12

INTRODUCTION:
The birth of Jesus Christ was marked by humility and rejection. When Mary was ready to give birth, there was no room for them in the inn, forcing them to settle in a stable meant for animals. This story mirrors the spiritual state of many people today—celebrating Christmas but leaving no room for Christ in their hearts and lives. This sermon challenges us to make room for Jesus, not just in this season but throughout our lives.

1. THE WORLD’S REJECTION OF CHRIST

a) No Room in the Inn:
Despite His divine identity, there was no place for Jesus at His birth (Luke 2:7).

b) The World Did Not Recognise Him:
Many rejected Jesus because He did not fit their expectations of a king (John 1:10-11).

c) Distractions of Life:
Just as the inn was crowded, people’s lives are often too filled with other priorities to welcome Christ (Luke 14:16-20).

d) Indifference to His Presence:
Some people hear about Jesus but do not take steps to invite Him into their lives (Acts 17:32).

e) Biblical Example:
The people of Bethlehem ignored Mary and Joseph’s need for shelter, failing to recognise the significance of the moment.

2. WHY WE MUST MAKE ROOM FOR CHRIST

a) He Is the Saviour:
Jesus came to save us from sin and bring us into a relationship with God (Matthew 1:21).

b) He Brings True Peace and Joy:
The peace the world seeks is found only in Christ (John 14:27).

c) He Gives Eternal Life:
Making room for Jesus ensures our place in His eternal kingdom (John 3:16).

d) He Transforms Lives:
When Christ enters, He brings renewal and purpose (2 Corinthians 5:17).

e) Biblical Example:
Zacchaeus made room for Jesus in his home and life, leading to transformation and salvation (Luke 19:5-9).

3. HOW TO MAKE ROOM FOR CHRIST

a) Clear the Clutter:
Remove distractions and sins that hinder your relationship with Jesus (Hebrews 12:1).

b) Prioritise Him in Your Life:
Seek first His kingdom and righteousness (Matthew 6:33).

c) Invite Him into Your Heart:
Open the door of your heart to His invitation (Revelation 3:20).

d) Dedicate Time for Him:
Spend time in prayer, worship, and studying His Word (Psalm 119:105).

e) Biblical Example:
Mary, the sister of Martha, made room for Jesus by sitting at His feet and listening to His teachings (Luke 10:38-42).

4. THE DANGERS OF NOT MAKING ROOM FOR CHRIST

a) Missed Opportunities:
The people of Bethlehem missed the greatest event in history (Luke 19:44).

b) Spiritual Emptiness:
Without Christ, life becomes void of purpose and direction (Ecclesiastes 1:14).

c) Eternal Consequences:
Rejecting Christ leads to eternal separation from God (Matthew 25:41-46).

d) Living Without His Blessings:
Jesus brings blessings of peace, joy, and fulfilment that are unavailable without Him (John 15:5).

e) Biblical Example:
The rich young ruler failed to make room for Christ because of his attachment to worldly possessions (Matthew 19:21-22).

5. THE BLESSINGS OF MAKING ROOM FOR CHRIST

a) A Relationship with God:
Jesus bridges the gap between us and God, giving us access to Him (Ephesians 2:18).

b) Abundant Life:
Christ gives life that is full of purpose and joy (John 10:10).

c) Peace Amidst Challenges:
Even in difficult times, His presence brings peace (Philippians 4:7).

d) Eternal Rewards:
Those who make room for Christ will share in His glory (Romans 8:17).

e) Biblical Example:
The shepherds who welcomed the news of Christ’s birth were blessed with joy and the privilege of witnessing the Saviour (Luke 2:15-20).

CONCLUSION:
Just as there was no room for Jesus in the inn, many today live without making space for Him in their hearts. This Christmas, let us examine our lives and ensure that Jesus has the central place. He is not just the reason for the season but the foundation of our lives. Make room for Christ today, and experience the fullness of His presence, blessings, and joy.
