By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: Matthew 2:2
Supporting Texts: Revelation 19:16, 1 Timothy 6:15

INTRODUCTION:
The Christmas season is a time of celebrating Jesus Christ, the King of Kings. His birth marked the arrival of a divine ruler whose kingdom is everlasting and whose reign brings salvation, peace, and joy. The wise men recognised His kingship and travelled to worship Him. Today, we also celebrate this glorious King who reigns supreme over all creation. This sermon explores why and how we should honour and celebrate Jesus, the King of Kings, in our lives.

1. JESUS IS THE PROMISED KING

a) Fulfilment of Prophecy:
Jesus’ birth fulfilled the prophecy of a king from the line of David (Isaiah 9:6-7).

b) Born to Reign:
The angel announced to Mary that Jesus would reign over the house of Jacob forever (Luke 1:32-33).

c) Acknowledged by the Wise Men:
The Magi recognised Him as the King of the Jews and worshipped Him with gifts (Matthew 2:11).

d) The Eternal King:
Jesus’ reign is not temporary but eternal, encompassing heaven and earth (Revelation 11:15).

e) Biblical Example:
King Solomon’s reign as a wise and prosperous king foreshadowed the greater kingship of Christ (1 Kings 10:23).

2. JESUS IS THE KING OF KINGS

a) Supreme Authority:
Jesus holds the title of King of Kings and Lord of Lords, signifying His authority over all rulers (Revelation 19:16).

b) His Kingdom Is Above All:
Christ’s kingdom is not of this world but surpasses every earthly power (John 18:36).

c) He Rules with Justice and Righteousness:
His reign is marked by perfect justice, equity, and truth (Psalm 45:6-7).

d) Acknowledged in Heaven and Earth:
Every knee will bow, and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord (Philippians 2:10-11).

e) Biblical Example:
Nebuchadnezzar acknowledged God’s supreme reign after being humbled (Daniel 4:34-37).

3. CELEBRATING THE KING OF KINGS

a) Worship with Reverence:
We celebrate Jesus as King by giving Him the honour and worship He deserves (Psalm 95:6).

b) Giving Our Best to Him:
Like the wise men, we bring our best gifts—our time, talents, and treasures (Proverbs 3:9).

c) Acknowledging His Lordship:
Submitting every aspect of our lives to His kingship is the ultimate act of celebration (Romans 12:1).

d) Living as His Ambassadors:
Representing the King in our daily lives by showing His love and proclaiming His gospel (2 Corinthians 5:20).

e) Biblical Example:
David celebrated the kingship of God with extravagant worship when the ark of the covenant was brought to Jerusalem (2 Samuel 6:14).

4. THE BENEFITS OF CELEBRATING JESUS AS KING

a) Access to Divine Blessings:
Submitting to Jesus’ kingship opens the door to His abundant blessings (Matthew 6:33).

b) Peace in His Kingdom:
Jesus provides peace that surpasses all understanding for those who acknowledge Him (John 14:27).

c) Protection Under His Reign:
The King of Kings protects His subjects from harm and danger (Psalm 91:1-2).

d) Eternal Life in His Kingdom:
Celebrating Jesus as King ensures a place in His everlasting kingdom (John 3:16).

e) Biblical Example:
The Israelites celebrated God as their King during the Feast of Tabernacles, recognising His provision and protection (Leviticus 23:39-43).

5. OUR RESPONSE TO THE KING OF KINGS

a) Surrender to His Lordship:
Submit your life fully to His authority and guidance (James 4:7).

b) Proclaim His Kingship:
Share the good news of His reign with the world (Mark 16:15).

c) Serve Him Faithfully:
Dedicate your life to serving the King in whatever capacity He calls you (Colossians 3:23-24).

d) Wait Expectantly for His Return:
Celebrate His kingship now and prepare for His second coming (Revelation 22:12).

e) Biblical Example:
Simeon and Anna recognised and celebrated Jesus as King when He was presented in the temple (Luke 2:25-38).
