Title: I AM AN ATMOSPHERE CHANGER
By Rev. Samuel Arimoro
Main Text: Matthew 5:14-16
Supporting Texts: Acts 16:25-26, Mark 4:39, Acts 2:1-4
INTRODUCTION
As believers, we are not just called to live ordinary lives but to change the spiritual atmosphere around us. We are atmosphere changers, empowered by the Holy Spirit to shift environments, bring light to darkness, peace to chaos, and hope to despair. Wherever we go, we carry the presence of God, and that presence has the power to transform the environment. Jesus Himself set the example for us by changing atmospheres everywhere He went. Today, we will learn how to step into that same power and authority to become atmosphere changers.
1. WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE AN ATMOSPHERE CHANGER?
a) Bringing Light into Darkness (Matthew 5:14-16)
Jesus said we are the light of the world. Light has a way of changing everything around it. When light enters a room, darkness disappears. As atmosphere changers, we bring the light of Christ into dark places—places where fear, sin, and despair exist. Our presence should dispel the darkness and bring the clarity and hope of God’s light.
b) Bringing the Kingdom of God (Luke 10:9)
When Jesus sent out His disciples, He instructed them to declare that the Kingdom of God had come near. As atmosphere changers, we are carriers of God’s Kingdom. Wherever we go, we bring the reality of His kingdom—His peace, healing, deliverance, and righteousness.
2. THE POWER OF AN ATMOSPHERE CHANGER
a) Changing the Environment through Prayer and Praise (Acts 16:25-26)
Paul and Silas were imprisoned, but their response was to pray and sing praises to God. As a result, the atmosphere in the prison changed. The chains were broken, and the doors were opened. As atmosphere changers, we have the power to shift situations through our prayers and worship. Prayer is a powerful tool that changes both spiritual and physical environments.
b) Commanding Peace in Chaos (Mark 4:39)
Jesus showed us the power of an atmosphere changer when He calmed the storm. He rebuked the wind and commanded the waves to be still. In the same way, we have the authority to bring peace to chaotic situations through the words we speak. We can speak peace into our homes, workplaces, and communities when they are in turmoil.
3. WALKING IN THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
a) Filled with the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:1-4)
The disciples became atmosphere changers after being filled with the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. They were able to speak in new tongues, perform miracles, and boldly proclaim the gospel. The Holy Spirit empowers us to change atmospheres. Without the Holy Spirit, we cannot walk in the fullness of this calling.
b) Walking in Authority (Luke 10:19)
Jesus has given us authority over all the power of the enemy. We must walk in that authority, knowing that we are called to subdue darkness and establish God’s kingdom wherever we go. As atmosphere changers, we must be bold and confident, knowing that we have been given power over every force that opposes God’s purposes.
4. PRACTICAL WAYS TO CHANGE THE ATMOSPHERE
a) Speak Life and Not Death (Proverbs 18:21)
Our words have power. As atmosphere changers, we must speak words of life, encouragement, and faith. Negative words can bring destruction, but positive, faith-filled words have the power to change lives and situations.
b) Carry God’s Presence Everywhere (Psalm 16:11)
Wherever we go, we carry the presence of God with us. We should cultivate an awareness of His presence and invite Him into every situation we encounter. Whether it’s in a meeting, a conversation, or a challenging environment, we must recognize that we are carriers of His glory.
c) Shift the Spiritual Climate through Worship
Worship is a powerful atmosphere changer. It invites the presence of God and shifts the spiritual climate around us. When we enter a place and begin to worship, the atmosphere changes, and God’s presence takes over. We must learn to live lives of continuous worship, creating an environment where God is welcomed.
CONCLUSION
As believers, we are called to be atmosphere changers, carrying the presence of God and transforming the environments we enter. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, prayer, praise, and the authority of Jesus, we can bring light to darkness, peace to chaos, and hope to despair. We are not ordinary people; we are carriers of God’s Kingdom. Wherever you find yourself—whether in your home, workplace, or community—remember that you have the power to change the atmosphere. Speak life, walk in authority, and invite God’s presence to invade every situation.
