INTRODUCTION:
Crossing over into a new year, season, or phase of life is a significant transition. However, it is crucial to ensure that old baggage—whether it be sin, failures, disappointments, or unresolved battles—does not accompany us. This message focuses on how to transition into new opportunities, seasons, and victories without carrying over the weight of the past.
1. WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO CARRY OVER?
a) Unresolved Battles:
Issues from the past that remain unaddressed (1 Samuel 30:1-8).
b) Emotional Baggage:
Hurts, bitterness, and unforgiveness that weigh down the spirit (Ephesians 4:31-32).
c) Spiritual Stagnation:
Failing to grow in faith and grace (Hebrews 5:12-14).
d) Ungodly Habits and Sin:
Persistent behaviours that hinder progress (Hebrews 12:1).
e) Biblical Example:
Lot’s wife carried the attachment to Sodom and could not transition successfully (Genesis 19:26).
2. WHY YOU MUST NOT CARRY OVER THE PAST
a) It Hinders Progress:
Old baggage slows down your journey to new beginnings (Philippians 3:13-14).
b) It Distracts from God’s Plan:
Unresolved issues shift focus from God’s purpose (Jeremiah 29:11).
c) It Limits Spiritual Growth:
Holding onto the past can block new blessings (Isaiah 43:18-19).
d) It Opens Doors for the Enemy:
Unforgiveness and unresolved matters give the devil a foothold (Ephesians 4:27).
e) Biblical Example:
The Israelites who murmured and rebelled in the wilderness could not enter the Promised Land (Numbers 14:22-23).
3. HOW TO CROSS OVER WITHOUT CARRYING OVER
a) Surrender to God:
Lay every burden and concern at His feet (Matthew 11:28-30).
b) Seek Forgiveness and Reconciliation:
Clear your heart of grudges and seek forgiveness for past sins (1 John 1:9).
c) Pray for Deliverance:
Break every yoke and barrier holding you back (Isaiah 10:27).
d) Embrace New Beginnings:
Let go of the old and align yourself with God’s promises (2 Corinthians 5:17).
e) Biblical Example:
Paul, after his conversion, left his past behind and embraced his new mission (Acts 9:15-16).
4. KEYS TO SUSTAINING A SUCCESSFUL CROSSOVER
a) Consistent Prayer Life:
Commit to a life of prayer and communion with God (1 Thessalonians 5:17).
b) Studying and Living by the Word:
Let God’s Word guide and transform you (Psalm 119:105).
c) Fellowship with Believers:
Stay connected to a godly community for spiritual support (Hebrews 10:25).
d) Be Watchful and Disciplined:
Guard your heart and stay vigilant against the enemy’s schemes (1 Peter 5:8).
e) Biblical Example:
Joshua, through obedience and reliance on God, successfully led Israel into the Promised Land (Joshua 1:7-9).
CONCLUSION:
Crossing over without carrying over is possible when we surrender fully to God, let go of the past, and embrace the new things He has prepared for us. Determine not to let unresolved issues, sins, or distractions follow you into your next season. God has destined you for greater heights, but you must be free to run the race ahead.
