INTRODUCTION:
Worship is the heart of our relationship with God. It is not just about singing or gathering in church; it is a lifestyle of reverence, adoration, and total surrender to God. As we declare 2025 as our Year of Divine Worship, we are committing to seek God with a pure heart and worship Him in spirit and truth.
1. UNDERSTANDING TRUE WORSHIP
a) Definition of Worship
Worship is the act of ascribing worth to God through reverence, love, and adoration (Psalm 95:6).
b) Worship in Spirit
True worship involves connecting with God through the Holy Spirit (John 4:24).
c) Worship in Truth
Worship must be based on God's Word and done with sincerity (John 17:17).
d) A Lifestyle of Worship
Worship goes beyond church services; it is reflected in our daily lives (Romans 12:1).
e) Worship Requires Sacrifice
True worship often demands a sacrifice of time, comfort, or resources (2 Samuel 24:24).
f) Biblical Example: The Samaritan woman’s encounter with Jesus revealed the essence of worship (John 4:19-26).
2. THE POWER OF WORSHIP
a) Attracting God’s Presence
Worship invites the presence of God into our lives (Psalm 22:3).
b) Breaking Strongholds
Worship has the power to break chains and open doors of freedom (Acts 16:25-26).
c) Receiving Divine Revelation
Worship opens our spiritual eyes to see God’s plans (Isaiah 6:1-8).
d) Offering Sacrifices of Praise
God honours our worship when we offer it with a pure heart (Hebrews 13:15).
e) Worship Leads to Victory
Worship activates God’s intervention in battles (2 Chronicles 20:21-22).
f) Biblical Example: Jehoshaphat led Judah in worship, and God gave them victory (2 Chronicles 20:21-22).
3. LIVING A LIFE OF WORSHIP IN 2025
a) Cultivate a Heart of Gratitude
Worship flows from a thankful heart (Psalm 100:4).
b) Set Aside Time for Personal Worship
Prioritise daily fellowship with God (Matthew 6:6).
c) Participate in Corporate Worship
Join other believers to exalt God together (Hebrews 10:25).
d) Worship Through Obedience
Obedience is the highest form of worship (1 Samuel 15:22).
e) Worship Through Service
Serving God and others is a vital act of worship (Colossians 3:23-24).
f) Biblical Example: Abraham worshipped God through his obedience (Genesis 22:1-14).
