THE STAR OF HOPE (Part 2)

Title: THE STAR OF HOPE (Part 2)

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: Matthew 2:1-2
Supporting Texts: Numbers 24:17, Revelation 22:16

INTRODUCTION:
The Christmas season is filled with symbols, and one of the most profound is the star that led the wise men to Jesus. The star represents hope, guidance, and fulfilment of God’s promises. This sermon will explore the significance of the star of hope in the Christmas story and how it applies to our lives today.

1. THE STAR AS A SYMBOL OF HOPE

a) Hope in a Dark World
The star appeared during a time of spiritual darkness, signifying the arrival of the Light of the World (Isaiah 9:2).

b) Prophetic Fulfilment
The star fulfilled the prophecy in Numbers 24:17, revealing Jesus as the promised King.

c) A Beacon for the Nations
The star was visible to Gentile wise men, symbolising that Jesus came for all people.

d) Hope of Eternal Life
Jesus is the Morning Star, the eternal hope for humanity (Revelation 22:16).

e) Biblical Example: The wise men followed the star, trusting it would lead them to the Messiah (Matthew 2:1-2).

2. THE STAR AS A GUIDE TO CHRIST

a) Divine Direction
God used the star to guide the wise men to Jesus, showing His ability to direct those who seek Him (Proverbs 3:5-6).

b) The Importance of Spiritual Sensitivity
The wise men recognised the star and responded, unlike others who ignored the signs.

c) Following God's Leading
The star teaches us to follow God’s guidance even when the journey seems unclear.

d) Overcoming Distractions
The wise men stayed focused on their goal despite Herod's schemes (Matthew 2:7-8).

e) Biblical Example: The wise men's journey to Bethlehem shows the importance of trusting God’s guidance (Matthew 2:9-10).

3. THE STAR AS A SIGN OF JOY AND FULFILMENT

a) Joy in Finding Christ
When the wise men saw the star again, they rejoiced exceedingly (Matthew 2:10).

b) Christ as the Fulfilment of Prophecies
The star signified the arrival of the Messiah, fulfilling centuries of anticipation (Isaiah 7:14).

c) God Fulfils His Promises
Just as the star led to Christ, God’s promises always lead to fulfilment.

d) Jesus, the Source of Lasting Joy
True joy is found not in earthly things but in a relationship with Christ.

e) Biblical Example: The wise men worshipped Jesus with joy, offering gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh (Matthew 2:11).
