CROSSING TO THE OTHER SIDE

SERMON TITLE: CROSSING TO THE OTHER SIDE

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: Mark 4:35
Supporting Texts: Joshua 3:1-17, Exodus 14:21-31, Isaiah 43:2

INTRODUCTION:
In Mark 4:35, Jesus told His disciples, "Let us cross over to the other side." This simple statement carried profound spiritual meaning. Jesus was leading them from one side to the other, not just physically, but spiritually, emotionally, and in faith. To cross to the other side often signifies a transition—a movement from one level of life, faith, or experience to another. It involves leaving behind what is familiar and comfortable and moving into the unknown, trusting in God’s guidance. This sermon explores the journey of crossing to the other side, the challenges that come with it, and the victory that awaits on the other side.

1. THE CALL TO MOVE FORWARD

a) Jesus' instruction to cross to the other side is a call to move forward in life and faith.

b) Staying in one place spiritually, emotionally, or physically can lead to stagnation.

c) God often calls us to cross over into new territories, experiences, and challenges that will strengthen our faith.

d) This movement requires faith, obedience, and a willingness to leave behind what is familiar.

e) Biblical Example: The Israelites were called to cross the Jordan River into the Promised Land (Joshua 3:1-17).

2. CHALLENGES WILL COME ON THE JOURNEY

a) As soon as the disciples began to cross, a great storm arose, threatening their journey (Mark 4:37).

b) Storms are inevitable when we step out in faith and obey God’s instructions. These storms come to test our faith.

c) The enemy will always try to disrupt your journey to the other side with distractions, fear, and doubt.

d) Jesus, however, was with the disciples in the boat, just as He is with us in every storm.

e) Biblical Example: The Israelites faced the Red Sea when crossing from Egypt to freedom, but God made a way through (Exodus 14:21-31).

3. THE IMPORTANCE OF TRUSTING JESUS IN THE STORM

a) The disciples panicked during the storm, but Jesus was asleep, showing His peace and control over the situation (Mark 4:38).

b) Trusting Jesus in the storm is key. He may seem silent, but He is always in control.

c) We must not allow fear to overwhelm us; instead, we should turn to Jesus in prayer and faith.

d) Jesus’ words, "Peace, be still" (Mark 4:39), remind us that He has the authority to calm every storm in our lives.

e) Biblical Example: When Peter walked on water, he began to sink because of fear, but Jesus immediately saved him when he called out (Matthew 14:28-31).

4. THE REWARD OF OBEDIENCE AND FAITH

a) When the disciples trusted Jesus, the storm ceased, and they safely reached the other side (Mark 4:39).

b) On the other side of obedience lies growth, breakthrough, and the fulfilment of God’s promises.

c) Every time God calls us to cross over, He is preparing something greater for us on the other side.

d) The other side represents new opportunities, new revelations, and new victories.

e) Biblical Example: The Israelites, after crossing the Jordan, began to conquer the Promised Land, starting with Jericho (Joshua 6:1-20).

5. STEPPING INTO SUPERNATURAL PROVISION AND PROTECTION

a) Crossing to the other side means stepping into God’s supernatural provision and protection.

b) As we cross over, God provides for our needs and protects us from the dangers we face along the way.

c) Just as Jesus was in the boat with the disciples, He is with us in every step of the journey.

d) God’s supernatural power is released when we obey His call and trust Him with our lives.

e) Biblical Example: The widow of Zarephath experienced supernatural provision when she obeyed Elijah’s command to give him food (1 Kings 17:8-16).

CONCLUSION:
Crossing to the other side is a journey of faith, obedience, and trust in God. It signifies leaving behind the old and stepping into the new. Like the disciples, we will face storms and challenges, but we must remember that Jesus is with us in every storm, and He has the power to calm them. On the other side of obedience, we find new blessings, new opportunities, and a deeper relationship with God. Are you ready to cross to the other side in your spiritual journey? Trust Jesus and take that step of faith.
