TITLE: PURSUE, OVERTAKE AND RECOVER ALL
By Rev. Samuel Arimoro
Main Text: 1 Samuel 30:8
Supporting Texts: Joel 2:25-26, Isaiah 40:31, Psalm 18:37
INTRODUCTION:
Life can sometimes bring seasons of loss and discouragement, much like David experienced at Ziklag. In times like these, it is important to seek God's guidance for recovery. This message explores how, by God's direction, we can pursue what has been stolen, overtake the enemy, and recover all that belongs to us. The victory is ours when we walk in obedience and trust God’s timing.
1. SEEK GOD’S DIRECTION
a) The Importance of Seeking God First
David’s immediate response to loss was to seek God for direction. Before acting on our own impulses, we must seek God’s counsel.
b) God Always Has a Plan
No matter the extent of the loss, God has a clear path to recovery. He knows where the enemy has taken your blessing.
c) Hearing God’s Voice
Like David, we must be sensitive to hear when God says, “Pursue, for you shall surely overtake and recover all.”
d) Taking the First Step in Faith
Faith without action is dead. Once we receive God's word, we must step out in faith.
Biblical Example: David at Ziklag (1 Samuel 30:1-8) sought the Lord’s counsel and was instructed to pursue. God gave him clarity and strength for the battle ahead.
2. OVERTAKING THE ENEMY
a) The Strength to Pursue
When God gives the command to pursue, He also empowers us to move forward. He will provide divine strength.
b) Knowing Your Enemy
Understanding the enemy’s strategies helps in overtaking. David was able to track down the Amalekites because God provided insight.
c) Staying Focused on the Goal
Distractions can come, but staying focused on the promise of recovery is key.
d) God’s Supernatural Intervention
When you follow God’s instructions, He steps in and helps you to overtake the enemy’s strongholds.
Biblical Example: The Israelites overtook their enemies in numerous battles when they followed God’s commands (Joshua 10:7-11).
3. RECOVERING ALL
a) Total Restoration
God does not just recover part of what was lost; He ensures full restoration, as David experienced.
b) God Restores in Abundance
Often, recovery comes with more than what was originally lost. God's blessings overflow.
c) Walking in Confidence
When God promises recovery, believe it. Do not settle for partial recovery but trust in full restoration.
d) Celebrating the Victory
Like David, we must celebrate and give God the glory after the victory has been won.
Biblical Example: The story of Job demonstrates how God restored not only what was lost but doubled Job’s blessings (Job 42:10).
CONCLUSION:
God has called us to live in victory, not in defeat. When we face seasons of loss or attack, we can be assured that through Him, we can pursue, overtake, and recover all. Just as David sought the Lord’s guidance, received strength to overtake the enemy, and recovered everything, we too can experience complete restoration when we trust and obey God.
