Title: RENAME YOUR SITUATION
By Rev. Samuel Arimoro
Main Text: Genesis 28:19
2 Corinthians 5:17, Isaiah 62:2, Revelation 2:17
INTRODUCTION:
In life, circumstances often appear to define us. However, like Jacob, we are empowered to rename our situations in light of God's promises and revelations. Jacob renamed Luz to Bethel after encountering God, signifying a shift in meaning and purpose. Renaming your situation is an act of faith, seeing through the lens of God's divine plan rather than the present reality.
1. UNDERSTANDING THE POWER OF NAMES
a) Names Carry Significance:
In biblical times, names were more than mere labels; they held meaning, purpose, and destiny.
b) God Changes Names for New Purposes:
From Abram to Abraham (Genesis 17:5) and Sarai to Sarah (Genesis 17:15), God often gave new names to align individuals with His divine purpose.
c) Renaming Your Situation Aligns with Faith:
When you rename your challenge in light of God's promises, you declare your faith in His ability to transform it.
d) Names Define Your Expectations:
How you refer to your situation influences how you respond to it. Naming it positively opens the door for change.
e) Biblical Example:
Jacob renaming Luz to Bethel (Genesis 28:19) signified a shift from a barren land to the house of God, marking the spot of divine encounter.
2. RECEIVING DIVINE ENCOUNTER TO RENAME YOUR SITUATION
a) Jacob's Encounter Changed His Perspective:
At Luz, Jacob had an ordinary sleep, but his divine dream turned it into Bethel, "the house of God."
b) God's Word Provides Revelation for Change:
When God speaks, He gives insight into our situation, showing us the new name we should call it.
c) Faith Reframes Your Circumstance:
Jacob's perception of Luz changed because he saw it through the eyes of faith. What was previously ordinary became sacred.
d) Encounter with God Changes Outcomes:
One encounter with God can turn your "Luz" (barren) into "Bethel" (fruitful and holy).
e) Biblical Example:
Moses at the burning bush (Exodus 3:1-6) – a normal desert scene was transformed into holy ground after his encounter with God.
3. SPEAKING NEW NAMES OVER YOUR SITUATION
a) Declare Life over Death:
Where there is barrenness, declare fruitfulness (Romans 4:17).
b) Speak Healing over Sickness:
The woman with the issue of blood (Mark 5:25-34) declared her healing by faith even before it manifested.
c) Name Your Destiny, Not Your Circumstance:
Don't call your situation by its current state; call it what you expect through God's power.
d) Believe in God's Power to Fulfill His Promise:
As you declare, trust in God's ability to bring your words to pass.
e) Biblical Example:
Jesus renamed Simon to Peter, signifying his transformation from instability to becoming a "rock" (Matthew 16:18).
4. CHANGING YOUR IDENTITY THROUGH CHRIST
a) You Are a New Creation in Christ:
Through Christ, we are no longer defined by our past; we have a new identity (2 Corinthians 5:17).
b) Renaming Your Life's Path:
Christ gives us the power to redefine our future in alignment with His purpose.
c) Overcoming Limiting Labels:
Society may label you, but God renames you for greatness.
d) Divine Identity Grants New Authority:
With a new name comes authority to walk in God's plan.
e) Biblical Example:
Saul's transformation to Paul marked a shift from persecutor to apostle (Acts 13:9).
5. RENAMING YOUR SITUATION IN PRAYER AND FAITH
a) Ask God for Insight and Revelation:
Through prayer, seek God's perspective on your situation, asking Him to reveal its true purpose.
b) Speak the New Name in Faith:
Declare what God has shown you, even if the physical evidence hasn’t yet changed.
c) Persist in Declaring God's Promises:
Continuously speak God's promises over your life, refusing to be moved by present circumstances.
d) Trust in God's Timing and Fulfillment:
God's promises may not manifest immediately, but His word never fails.
e) Biblical Example:
Abraham was called "Father of Many Nations" long before he had children (Genesis 17:4-5).
CONCLUSION:
Just like Jacob, you can rename your situation through faith and divine encounter. The power of a new name signifies the beginning of transformation. Speak life, victory, and God's promises over every area of your life, trusting that He will bring His word to fulfillment.
