THE GOD WHO KEEPS HIS PROMISES

SERMON TITLE: THE GOD WHO KEEPS HIS PROMISES

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: Genesis 24:1
Supporting Texts: Numbers 23:19, Hebrews 10:23, 2 Peter 3:9

INTRODUCTION:
In Genesis 24:1, we see that God had blessed Abraham in all things, just as He had promised. Abraham's life is a testimony of God's faithfulness. From the moment God called him out of his homeland, Abraham experienced God's guidance, provision, and fulfilment of His promises. This sermon will explore the faithfulness of God in keeping His promises and how we can trust Him with our lives.

1. GOD'S PROMISES ARE DEPENDABLE

a) God is not a man that He should lie; His Word is true and reliable (Numbers 23:19).

b) Throughout Scripture, God repeatedly demonstrates that He keeps His promises, no matter how long it takes.

c) Abraham's story shows us that even though the promise of Isaac took time to manifest, God fulfilled it in due time.

d) God's promises may sometimes appear delayed, but His timing is always perfect.

e) Biblical Example: The birth of Isaac was a direct fulfilment of God’s promise to Abraham (Genesis 21:1-3).

2. GOD'S FAITHFULNESS NEVER FAILS

a) God’s nature is unchanging, and His faithfulness endures from generation to generation.

b) Even when circumstances seem uncertain, we can rely on God’s faithfulness.

c) Abraham was blessed in all things because of God's unwavering commitment to His Word.

d) God is faithful to those who walk in obedience and faith, just as He was faithful to Abraham.

e) Biblical Example: Hebrews 11:11 highlights Sarah’s faith in God’s faithfulness, which led to the birth of Isaac.

3. GOD'S PROMISES REQUIRE OUR TRUST AND PATIENCE

a) Trusting in God’s promises requires patience, as His ways are often beyond our understanding.

b) Abraham had to wait for years before the promise of a son was fulfilled, but he never lost faith.

c) Sometimes, we need to remain steadfast in faith even when we cannot see how God will work things out.

d) Waiting on God's promises refines our character and deepens our relationship with Him.

e) Biblical Example: Joseph had to trust in God’s promises during his time in slavery and prison, but God eventually raised him to a position of power (Genesis 41:41).

4. GOD'S BLESSINGS ARE COMPLETE

a) Genesis 24:1 shows that Abraham was blessed in all things, not just in one area of his life.

b) God’s blessings are holistic; they affect every part of our lives—spiritually, physically, and materially.

c) When we walk with God, His blessings overflow in every aspect of our existence.

d) Abraham experienced God’s blessings in his family, wealth, health, and relationships because of his obedience.

e) Biblical Example: Job, after his time of testing, received double of everything he had lost, showing that God’s blessings are complete (Job 42:10-17).

5. GOD'S PROMISES REQUIRE OUR RESPONSE OF OBEDIENCE

a) God’s promises often come with conditions that require our obedience.

b) Abraham obeyed God by leaving his homeland, following God's instructions, and trusting in His covenant.

c) Our obedience positions us to receive the fullness of God’s promises.

d) When we align our lives with God’s Word, we open the door to His blessings and favour.

e) Biblical Example: The Israelites were promised a land flowing with milk and honey, but only those who obeyed God entered the Promised Land (Joshua 5:6).

CONCLUSION:
God is a promise keeper. His Word is dependable, and His faithfulness never fails. Like Abraham, we can trust in God's promises, even when the fulfilment seems delayed. When we remain patient, obedient, and full of faith, we will experience the fullness of His blessings. As we reflect on God’s faithfulness in the life of Abraham, let us hold fast to His promises, knowing that He who promised is faithful and will do it.
