INTRODUCTION:
Divine honour is the recognition, favour, and elevation that comes from God, distinguishing His people for their faithfulness, obedience, and reverence toward Him. When we honour God, He responds with blessings, protection, and rewards that set us apart. This message explores how we can position ourselves to receive divine honour and the impact it has on our lives.
1. WHAT IS DIVINE HONOUR?
a) God's Esteem and Favour:
Divine honour is God’s favour bestowed on those who live in alignment with His will (Proverbs 3:4).
b) Promotion Beyond Human Ability:
Honour from God brings promotion and elevation beyond what human efforts can achieve (Psalm 75:6-7).
c) Acknowledgement by God Himself:
When God honours someone, He publicly acknowledges and validates their life and testimony (Matthew 3:17).
d) Distinguishing the Faithful:
Divine honour sets apart those who are faithful to God’s commands and values (Malachi 3:17-18).
Biblical Example: God honoured Solomon by granting him wisdom, wealth, and fame because of his humble request for wisdom (1 Kings 3:10-14).
2. KEYS TO RECEIVING DIVINE HONOUR
a) Reverence and Obedience to God:
Honouring God through obedience invites His honour in return (Deuteronomy 28:1-2).
b) Serving God with Sincerity:
Sincere service and devotion to God attract His favour and blessings (Colossians 3:23-24).
c) Humility and Faithfulness:
God exalts the humble and faithful, bestowing them with honour (James 4:10).
d) Giving Glory to God Alone:
When we direct all glory to God, He honours us by blessing our efforts (1 Corinthians 10:31).
Biblical Example: Daniel's dedication and refusal to compromise led to divine honour, as he was exalted in a foreign land (Daniel 6:3-5).
3. BENEFITS OF DIVINE HONOUR
a) Divine Protection and Provision:
God’s honour brings protection and provision, shielding us from harm (Psalm 91:14-15).
b) Increase and Multiplication:
When God honours us, He multiplies our resources and influence (Proverbs 3:9-10).
c) Restoration of Lost Glory:
Divine honour restores what the enemy has stolen and brings double blessings (Isaiah 61:7).
d) Eternal Rewards and Inheritance:
God’s honour extends beyond earthly life, giving us an eternal inheritance (Romans 8:17).
Biblical Example: Job’s faithfulness and patience led to divine honour, with God restoring and doubling his blessings (Job 42:10).
4. HINDRANCES TO DIVINE HONOUR
a) Pride and Self-Glory:
Pride hinders divine honour, as God resists the proud but honours the humble (James 4:6).
b) Disobedience and Rebellion:
Disobedience to God’s commands blocks the flow of His blessings and honour (1 Samuel 15:22-23).
c) Lukewarmness in Faith:
A half-hearted commitment to God limits His ability to honour us fully (Revelation 3:15-16).
d) Ignoring God’s Instructions:
Failing to follow God’s specific instructions leads to missed opportunities for honour (Isaiah 1:19-20).
Biblical Example: King Saul’s disobedience led to him being stripped of divine honour and kingship (1 Samuel 15:28).
5. HOW TO WALK IN DIVINE HONOUR
a) Live a Life of Integrity:
Integrity invites honour as it reflects God’s character and values (Proverbs 11:3).
b) Prioritise God in All Things:
Putting God first ensures that His blessings and honour flow in our lives (Matthew 6:33).
c) Be Diligent in Serving God:
Consistent service and faithfulness in little things attract God’s honour (1 Corinthians 15:58).
d) Cultivate a Heart of Gratitude and Worship:
Gratitude and worship keep our hearts humble and focused on God (Psalm 100:4).
Biblical Example: Mary’s dedication and humble service to Jesus led her to be honoured in the gospel story, where Jesus said she would be remembered for her act (Mark 14:9).
CONCLUSION:
Divine honour is God’s gift to those who live in reverence, obedience, and faithfulness to Him. It positions us for supernatural blessings and distinguishes us as His chosen. By honouring God in every area of our lives, we open the door to receive His recognition, protection, and blessings. May we seek to walk in a way that invites and sustains God’s honour upon us.
