WASTING THE WASTERS
By Rev. Samuel Arimoro
Main Text: Isaiah 54:16-17
Supporting Texts: John 10:10, Exodus 14:13-14, Psalm 68:1
INTRODUCTION:
Wasting the wasters is a spiritual battle cry for victory against forces assigned to destroy destinies, steal joy, and hinder progress. Just as there are divine builders in God’s kingdom, there are also demonic wasters sent by the enemy to scatter and frustrate God’s plan for His people. These wasters can take many forms—situations, habits, or spiritual agents assigned to derail your purpose. However, the Bible assures us that no weapon formed against us will prosper. In this sermon, we will explore the concept of "wasting the wasters" and how we can activate divine authority to stand against the forces of destruction.
1. IDENTIFYING THE WASTERS
a) Spiritual Forces of Darkness:
Ephesians 6:12 reminds us that we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers. The wasters in our lives often operate from the spiritual realm, sent by the enemy to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10).
b) Hindrances to Destiny:
Wasters are anything that hinders the fulfilment of God’s divine plan for your life. These include delays, setbacks, and barriers that prevent you from reaching your full potential.
c) Negative Habits and Addictions:
Sometimes, the wasters are internal—habits, addictions, or attitudes that eat away at your time, resources, and opportunities.
Biblical Example: In 1 Samuel 17, Goliath was a physical manifestation of a waster, challenging the people of God and threatening to waste their hope, but David rose to waste him by the power of God.
2. GOD’S PROMISE OF VICTORY OVER THE WASTERS
a) Divine Protection:
Isaiah 54:17 promises that no weapon formed against us shall prosper. God has assured us that the plans of the wasters will be frustrated, and we will emerge victorious.
b) God’s Angelic Army:
Psalm 91:11 declares that God will give His angels charge over us to keep us in all our ways. God has heavenly armies that waste the wasters on our behalf.
c) The Power of God’s Word:
Hebrews 4:12 speaks of the Word of God as sharp and powerful, able to dismantle the works of the enemy. We have divine authority in the Word to defeat the wasters.
Biblical Example: In Exodus 14:13-14, God instructed Moses not to fear but to stand still and watch as He fought against the Egyptians, who were trying to waste the Israelites’ future.
3. WAYS THE ENEMY USES TO WASTE PEOPLE
a) Time Wasting:
The enemy often uses distractions and unproductive activities to waste time, delaying God’s purpose for your life.
b) Resource Wasting:
The enemy can cause financial, emotional, and physical resources to be wasted through unnecessary expenditures, sickness, and failed ventures.
c) Emotional Wasting:
The enemy attempts to waste people’s lives by causing emotional burdens such as anxiety, depression, and fear, rendering them ineffective in the work of the kingdom.
Biblical Example: The Israelites spent 40 years in the wilderness for a journey that should have taken days (Numbers 14:33), as the enemy worked to waste their destiny, but God intervened and took them to the Promised Land.
4. ACTIVATING DIVINE AUTHORITY TO WASTE THE WASTERS
a) Prayer and Fasting:
Mark 9:29 reveals that some breakthroughs come only by prayer and fasting. This spiritual discipline is a powerful tool for dismantling the operations of wasters.
b) Declaring God’s Word:
Revelation 12:11 tells us that we overcome by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of our testimony. Speaking God’s Word and promises aloud is a weapon against the wasters.
c) Engaging in Spiritual Warfare:
Ephesians 6:10-18 instructs us to put on the full armour of God, including the shield of faith and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, to stand firm in the face of spiritual battles.
Biblical Example: In 2 Kings 19:35, God sent an angel to waste 185,000 of the Assyrian army, saving His people from destruction and demonstrating His power over the wasters.
5. THE POWER OF PRAISE AND THANKSGIVING IN WASTING THE WASTERS
a) Praise as a Weapon:
When we praise God in the midst of battle, it confuses the enemy. 2 Chronicles 20:22 shows how praise led to the defeat of Israel’s enemies.
b) Thanksgiving Opens Doors of Victory:
Philippians 4:6-7 encourages us to make our requests known to God with thanksgiving. When we give thanks, it activates God’s intervention against the wasters.
c) Testifying to God’s Goodness:
Your testimony is a weapon that overcomes the enemy. Revelation 12:11 shows that by testifying of God’s works, we waste the enemy’s efforts.
Biblical Example: Paul and Silas praised God in the prison (Acts 16:25-26), and their praise led to the wasting of the enemy’s plans as God shook the foundations of the prison.
CONCLUSION:
The enemy’s strategy is to waste lives, destinies, and blessings. But we serve a God who wastes the wasters! As we pray, fast, declare the Word, and engage in spiritual warfare, we will see every waster in our lives defeated. God has promised us victory, and He is faithful to perform it.
