Title: BORN GREAT BUT TIED DOWN (PART 2)
By Rev. Samuel Arimoro
Main Text: Luke 19:30-34
Supporting Texts: Jeremiah 1:5, Ecclesiastes 10:7, John 11:43-44
INTRODUCTION
In Luke 19:30-34, we see the story of a colt that was tied down, even though it was meant to carry Jesus into Jerusalem. The colt was born for a divine purpose, but until it was untied, it could not fulfill that purpose. This reflects the reality for many of us today—born with greatness and a divine destiny, yet held back by various factors. This sermon explores how to identify the things tying you down and how to experience the freedom to fulfill your God-given greatness.
1. UNDERSTANDING YOUR DIVINE PURPOSE
a) Created with a Destiny
Every believer is born with a divine purpose. Before we were even formed in the womb, God knew us and ordained a plan for our lives (Jeremiah 1:5). Just as the colt was chosen for a specific assignment, you are chosen for a unique and impactful destiny.
b) God's Timing is Perfect
Sometimes, even though we are tied down, it is not the right time for us to step into our greatness. God's timing is crucial, and while the colt was tied, it was awaiting its moment to be used for a divine mission. Likewise, patience is necessary while waiting for God’s perfect timing.
Biblical Example: David (1 Samuel 16:13)
David was anointed as king while still a shepherd boy, but it took years before he ascended to the throne. Though born great, he had to endure periods of waiting and testing before fulfilling his destiny.
2. WHAT IT MEANS TO BE TIED DOWN
a) Spiritual Hindrances
Being tied down can symbolize spiritual hindrances, such as generational curses, demonic oppression, or unresolved sin. These unseen forces can keep you from stepping into the greatness God has ordained for you.
b) Emotional and Mental Strongholds
Fear, doubt, and insecurity are mental and emotional strongholds that can tie down individuals, preventing them from embracing their full potential. Many live beneath their capacity due to self-limiting beliefs.
Biblical Example: The Israelites in Egypt (Exodus 1)
The Israelites were destined for the Promised Land but were tied down in Egypt, bound in slavery. It took God’s intervention to release them from their bondage and lead them into their destiny.
3. SIGNS YOU ARE TIED DOWN
a) Delayed Progress
One of the most common signs of being tied down is the inability to move forward in life, despite your efforts. This is often seen in stagnation, delayed promotions, or constant failure at the brink of success.
b) Frustration in Your Calling
Another sign is a deep sense of frustration when it comes to fulfilling your divine calling. You may feel an internal struggle, knowing that you are capable of more, yet unable to break free from what holds you back.
Biblical Example: The Colt (Luke 19:30-34)
The colt was tied down, unable to fulfill its purpose until Jesus commanded it to be loosed. Despite its potential, it was restricted and could not act on its greatness until it was released.
4. HOW TO BREAK FREE FROM WHAT TIES YOU DOWN
a) Divine Instruction and Intervention
In the case of the colt, it was divine instruction that led to its release. Jesus commanded His disciples to untie the colt and bring it to Him. In the same way, divine intervention is required to break spiritual, emotional, or physical chains holding us down.
b) Stepping Out in Faith
After you are untied, it is essential to take bold steps of faith toward fulfilling your destiny. It is not enough to be free—you must walk in the freedom God has given you.
Biblical Example: Lazarus (John 11:43-44)
Lazarus was resurrected by Jesus, but he was still bound by grave clothes. Jesus instructed that he be loosed and set free. Just like Lazarus, it is not enough to be alive spiritually; you must be free from all limitations.
5. WALKING IN YOUR DIVINE GREATNESS
a) Understanding Your Identity in Christ
Once you are untied, you must fully embrace your identity in Christ. Knowing who you are in Him is crucial to walking in the greatness God has called you to. The colt's identity and purpose became clear once it was untied and placed in the service of the Lord.
b) Fulfilling Your Divine Assignment
After you are set free, it is time to step into the assignment God has prepared for you. The colt was untied for the specific purpose of carrying Jesus into Jerusalem. Similarly, you are set free to accomplish specific tasks for the Kingdom.
Biblical Example: Gideon (Judges 6:11-16)
Gideon saw himself as weak and insignificant, but God called him a mighty man of valor. Once Gideon stepped into the identity God had for him, he became the deliverer of Israel.
CONCLUSION
The colt was born great but tied down until Jesus commanded its release. Similarly, many of us are born with greatness and purpose but are tied down by various factors. Whether it is spiritual bondage, fear, or circumstances beyond your control, God is able to untie you and lead you into your divine destiny. Today, as you yield to His command, you will be set free to fulfill the greatness within you.
