PROVOKING THE RELEASE OF DIVINE HELP

TITLE: PROVOKING THE RELEASE OF DIVINE HELP

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: Psalm 121:1-2
Supporting Texts: Isaiah 41:10, Psalm 46:1, Hebrews 4:16

INTRODUCTION:
Divine help is the intervention of God in the affairs of man, often coming when human effort has reached its limit. As believers, we are privileged to access God’s help when we call upon Him. The Bible is full of examples of how God helped His people in difficult times. Today, we will explore ways to provoke the release of divine help in our lives.

1. SEEK GOD'S HELP THROUGH PRAYER

a) Call Upon the Lord
Prayer is the key to unlocking divine help. Jeremiah 33:3 says, “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things.”

b) Pray with Faith
Hebrews 11:6 reminds us that without faith, it is impossible to please God. We must approach Him, believing that He is able and willing to help.

c) Pray Persistently
Luke 18:1 teaches us the importance of persistent prayer. God responds to those who continually seek Him.

d) Pray in Humility
Humility is key to receiving help. James 4:6 says God gives grace to the humble. We must recognize our need for Him.

Biblical Example: Hannah (1 Samuel 1:9-20) – Hannah’s persistent and humble prayer brought divine help in the form of a child, Samuel.

2. OBEDIENCE TO GOD'S INSTRUCTIONS

a) Follow God’s Commandments
Obedience to God is a trigger for divine help. Deuteronomy 28:1-2 promises blessings for those who obey the Lord.

b) Act on God’s Word
Acting in faith on what God instructs provokes His help. In John 2:5-10, the servants acted on Jesus’ instructions, and water was turned into wine.

c) Stay in God’s Will
Staying in alignment with God’s will positions us for divine help. Proverbs 3:5-6 calls us to trust in the Lord with all our heart.

d) Avoid Sin
Sin hinders God’s help (Isaiah 59:1-2). Repentance and a right standing with God invite His assistance.

Biblical Example: The Widow of Zarephath (1 Kings 17:8-16) – Obeying God’s word through Elijah opened the door for divine provision and help.

3. DEPEND ON GOD, NOT MAN

a) Trust in God Alone
Psalm 118:8 tells us it is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.

b) God is Our Source
Divine help comes from recognizing that God is the ultimate provider, not our human connections or abilities.

c) Avoid Idolatry of Self-Reliance
Depending on oneself rather than God blocks divine help. Isaiah 31:1 warns against trusting in horses and chariots instead of the Lord.

d) Acknowledge God in All Things
We must constantly acknowledge God as our helper (Proverbs 16:3).

Biblical Example: Gideon (Judges 7:1-7) – Gideon’s reliance on God’s power and not his army brought supernatural victory.

4. PRAISE AND WORSHIP AS A CATALYST FOR DIVINE HELP

a) Praise Attracts God’s Presence
Psalm 22:3 says God inhabits the praises of His people. His presence guarantees help.

b) Worship in Spirit and Truth
True worship connects us with God, who provides the help we need (John 4:24).

c) Praise in Difficult Times
Acts 16:25-26 shows how Paul and Silas praised God in prison, and divine help came in the form of an earthquake.

d) Give God the Glory
Praising God, even in challenges, releases His divine intervention.

Biblical Example: Jehoshaphat (2 Chronicles 20:21-24) – Jehoshaphat’s praise led to divine help in defeating the enemies.

5. FAITH IN GOD'S PROMISES

a) Hold on to God’s Word
Faith in God’s promises triggers divine help. Numbers 23:19 reminds us that God is not a man that He should lie.

b) Stand Firm in Faith
Hebrews 10:23 calls us to hold fast to the profession of our faith without wavering.

c) Speak God’s Promises
Declare what God has spoken over your life. Job 22:28 says you shall decree a thing, and it shall be established.

d) Resist Doubt and Fear
Doubt and fear hinder divine help. James 1:6-7 cautions against wavering in faith.

Biblical Example: Abraham (Genesis 22:1-14) – Abraham’s faith in God’s promise resulted in divine provision of a ram for the sacrifice.

CONCLUSION:
Divine help is always available to those who seek it. As we pray with faith, obey God, depend on Him, praise and worship Him, and trust in His promises, we can provoke the release of supernatural help in every area of our lives. Remember, God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble (Psalm 46:1).
