INTRODUCTION:
Angels are divine beings created by God to serve Him and assist His people. They are often sent on specific assignments to intervene in human affairs, delivering messages, providing protection, and carrying out God's will. This sermon will explore the nature of angels on assignment, their roles in our lives, and how we can align ourselves with their ministry.
1. THE NATURE OF ANGELS ON ASSIGNMENT
Angels are spiritual beings assigned by God to fulfil specific purposes in the lives of believers.
a) Ministering Spirits: Angels are referred to as ministering spirits, designed to serve and help those who are heirs of salvation (Hebrews 1:14).
b) Divine Messengers: They are often tasked with delivering important messages from God, as seen in the announcements to Mary and Zechariah (Luke 1:26-38).
c) Protectors and Warriors: Angels are also sent to protect believers from harm and to fight spiritual battles on our behalf (Psalm 34:7).
d) Guides and Counselors: They provide guidance and counsel, helping us navigate through life's challenges (Acts 8:26-39).
Biblical Example:
The angel Gabriel's assignment to deliver the message of Jesus' birth to Mary illustrates the important role angels play as divine messengers (Luke 1:26-38).
2. THE PURPOSE OF ANGELS ON ASSIGNMENT
Understanding the purposes for which angels are assigned can deepen our awareness of their role in our lives.
a) To Deliver Messages: Angels bring words of encouragement, direction, and prophecy to guide us in our spiritual journey (Daniel 9:20-23).
b) To Provide Protection: They are assigned to guard us from danger and evil, ensuring our safety (Psalm 91:11-12).
c) To Facilitate God's Will: Angels execute God's plans on earth, helping to bring about His purpose (Matthew 26:53).
d) To Strengthen and Encourage: In times of despair, angels can provide comfort and strength, as seen in the account of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane (Luke 22:43).
Biblical Example:
In Acts 12:7, an angel was sent to free Peter from prison, illustrating how angels can intervene to facilitate God’s will in our lives.
3. HOW ANGELS ARE ASSIGNED
Angels are dispatched by God based on His divine plan and our faithfulness.
a) Through Prayer: Our prayers can invoke angelic assistance as we seek God's intervention in our circumstances (Matthew 7:7-8).
b) By Faith: Believing in God's promises and the ministry of angels can open the door for their action in our lives (Hebrews 11:1).
c) In Obedience to God's Word: Living according to God's commands aligns us with His will, allowing angels to fulfil their assignments on our behalf (Psalm 103:20).
d) Through Divine Revelation: Sometimes, God reveals to us the specific role angels are to play in our lives through visions or dreams (Acts 10:3-6).
Biblical Example:
Cornelius received a divine revelation leading to an angelic visitation that directed him to send for Peter (Acts 10:3-6), demonstrating how God assigns angels based on His plans.
4. RESPONDING TO ANGELS ON ASSIGNMENT
Recognising and responding to the ministry of angels is crucial for receiving their assistance.
a) Acknowledge Their Presence: Being aware of angelic presence in our lives helps us receive their ministry (Hebrews 13:2).
b) Heed Their Messages: It is important to pay attention to the guidance angels provide, whether through dreams or direct encounters (Acts 10:7-8).
c) Engage in Worship and Prayer: A lifestyle of worship invites angelic ministry and helps us remain sensitive to their presence (Revelation 5:11-12).
d) Live in Expectation: Anticipating angelic assistance fosters a deeper connection with God's purposes (Romans 8:28).
Biblical Example:
When the angels visited Abraham, his hospitality and reverence allowed him to receive the message of God regarding his future (Genesis 18:1-3).
CONCLUSION:
Angels on assignment are an integral part of God's divine plan for His people. They are sent to minister, protect, and guide us as we navigate our faith journey. By understanding their roles, purposes, and how to respond to them, we can experience the fullness of God's provision through His heavenly messengers.
