Description: This study teaches believers that no situation is beyond God’s power and that through faith, prayer, and total dependence upon God, victory can be obtained over every impossible circumstance.

INTRODUCTION

Matthew chapter 17 presents the story of a desperate father who brought his demon-oppressed son to the disciples of Jesus for help, but they could not deliver him. The situation appeared hopeless and beyond human ability. However, when Jesus intervened, the boy was instantly healed and restored.

Later, Jesus explained to His disciples that their failure resulted from unbelief. He then declared that even faith as small as a mustard seed could move mountains and make the impossible possible.

Throughout life, believers encounter situations that appear impossible: sicknesses, financial difficulties, family crises, spiritual battles, closed doors, delays, disappointments, and overwhelming challenges. Human wisdom and strength often fail in such moments, but God specialises in doing what is impossible for man.

The Christian life is not based merely upon human effort but upon confidence in the limitless power of God. Through faith, prayer, obedience, and dependence upon God, believers can experience victory over impossible situations.

1. IMPOSSIBLE SITUATIONS REVEAL HUMAN LIMITATION

Difficult circumstances remind believers of their need for God.

a) The disciples could not help the child through their own ability (Matthew 17:16)
Human strength, wisdom, and experience are limited when facing spiritual and impossible challenges.

b) Certain situations exceed natural understanding and ability (Ecclesiastes 3:11)
Life often presents challenges that cannot be solved through human effort alone.

c) God allows difficult situations to draw people closer to Him (Psalm 46:1)
Trials often become opportunities for deeper dependence upon God’s power and presence.

d) Human weakness creates room for God’s strength to manifest (2 Corinthians 12:9)
God’s power becomes most evident when human ability reaches its limit.

Biblical Example:
The Israelites stood helpless before the Red Sea until God intervened supernaturally and made a way where none existed (Exodus 14:10-22).

2. FAITH IN GOD MAKES THE IMPOSSIBLE POSSIBLE

Faith connects believers to God’s unlimited power.

a) Jesus declared that nothing shall be impossible through faith (Matthew 17:20)
Genuine faith activates confidence in God’s ability rather than human circumstances.

b) Faith believes God despite visible obstacles (Hebrews 11:1)
Faith trusts God’s promises even before physical evidence appears.

c) God specialises in impossible situations (Jeremiah 32:27)
No challenge, battle, or condition is beyond the power of God.

d) Faith grows through hearing and meditating upon God’s Word (Romans 10:17)
The Scriptures strengthen believers’ confidence in God’s faithfulness and promises.

Biblical Example:
Abraham believed God’s promise for a son despite old age and impossible conditions, and God fulfilled His word faithfully (Romans 4:18-21).

3. PRAYER AND SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINE BRING BREAKTHROUGH

Victory requires spiritual preparation and dependence upon God.

a) Jesus spoke about prayer and fasting in connection with victory (Matthew 17:21)
Certain spiritual battles require deeper consecration and dependence upon God.

b) Prayer invites divine intervention into impossible circumstances (Jeremiah 33:3)
Through prayer, believers access God’s wisdom, power, and direction.

c) Fasting strengthens spiritual focus and sensitivity (Isaiah 58:6)
Spiritual discipline helps believers overcome distractions and fleshly weakness.

d) Persistent prayer produces spiritual endurance and breakthrough (Luke 18:1)
Believers must continue trusting and seeking God even during delays.

Biblical Example:
Hannah prayed persistently before God concerning her barrenness, and God answered by giving her Samuel (1 Samuel 1:10-20).

4. JESUS BRINGS COMPLETE VICTORY OVER EVERY IMPOSSIBILITY

Christ possesses authority over every power and circumstance.

a) Jesus rebuked the demon and brought instant deliverance (Matthew 17:18)
Christ has complete authority over sickness, demonic oppression, and impossible situations.

b) No problem is greater than God’s power (Luke 1:37)
What is impossible with men remains possible with God.

c) Believers overcome through Christ’s strength and authority (Philippians 4:13)
Victory comes through dependence upon Jesus rather than self-confidence.

d) God receives glory through impossible breakthroughs (John 11:40)
Miracles and divine interventions reveal God’s greatness and strengthen faith.

Biblical Example:
Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead after four days, demonstrating His authority over situations considered completely hopeless (John 11:39-44).

CONCLUSION

Victory over impossible situations comes through faith in God, prayer, spiritual discipline, and complete dependence upon Jesus Christ. Human strength may fail, but God’s power never fails.

Jesus taught His disciples that even small genuine faith can move mountains and release divine intervention. No situation is too difficult for God to change, heal, restore, or overcome.

Believers must therefore reject unbelief, remain steadfast in prayer, trust God’s promises, and continue depending upon Him regardless of visible circumstances.
