Description: This study reveals how God discloses spiritual truths, wisdom, and revelation to humble and teachable hearts rather than to the proud and self-dependent.

INTRODUCTION

In Matthew chapter 11, Jesus thanked the Father because divine truths were hidden from the “wise and prudent” but revealed unto “babes.” This does not mean God opposes education or wisdom; rather, it reveals that spiritual understanding is not attained through human pride, intellectual arrogance, or self-sufficiency.

God reveals His mysteries to those who are humble, dependent, teachable, and spiritually hungry. Pride blinds people spiritually, while humility opens the door to revelation, wisdom, and intimacy with God.

Throughout Scripture, God consistently chose humble individuals to reveal His plans, purposes, and power. Those who walk humbly before God receive divine insight, guidance, and understanding beyond natural ability.

1. GOD RESISTS PRIDE BUT HONOURS HUMILITY

Humility positions believers to receive from God.

a) Jesus said truth was hidden from the proud and self-wise (Matthew 11:25)
Spiritual pride prevents deeper revelation and understanding.

b) God gives grace to the humble (James 4:6)
Humility attracts divine favour and help.

c) Pride blinds spiritual understanding (Proverbs 16:18)
Arrogance leads to deception and downfall.

d) Humble hearts remain teachable before God (Psalm 25:9)
God guides those who depend upon Him sincerely.

Biblical Example:
Naaman almost missed his healing because of pride until he humbled himself and obeyed God’s instruction (2 Kings 5:10-14).

2. GOD REVEALS HIS MYSTERIES TO THE TEACHABLE

Spiritual revelation comes through dependence upon God.

a) God revealed truth unto “babes” (Matthew 11:25)
Childlike faith and simplicity open the heart to God’s wisdom.

b) Spiritual things are understood spiritually (1 Corinthians 2:14)
The Holy Spirit gives understanding beyond natural reasoning.

c) God reveals deep and secret things (Daniel 2:22)
Divine revelation comes from the Lord alone.

d) Hunger for God leads to greater understanding (Jeremiah 29:13)
Those who seek God sincerely will find Him.

Biblical Example:
Samuel heard God’s voice as a child because he maintained a humble and listening heart before the Lord (1 Samuel 3:9-10).

3. JESUS IS THE SOURCE OF DIVINE REVELATION

True knowledge of God comes through Christ.

a) Jesus revealed the Father to humanity (Matthew 11:27)
Christ is the perfect revelation of God’s nature and truth.

b) No one truly knows the Father except through the Son (John 14:6-9)
Jesus is the way to spiritual understanding and eternal life.

c) The Holy Spirit teaches believers truth (John 16:13)
Divine guidance comes through fellowship with the Spirit.

d) God’s Word brings light and understanding (Psalm 119:130)
Scripture opens spiritual eyes and gives wisdom.

Biblical Example:
Peter recognised Jesus as the Christ through divine revelation from the Father, not human wisdom (Matthew 16:16-17).

4. HUMILITY LEADS TO SPIRITUAL GROWTH AND EXALTATION

God lifts and uses those who walk humbly before Him.

a) God chooses the humble to fulfil His purposes (1 Corinthians 1:27-29)
The Lord uses unlikely people so that He alone receives glory.

b) Humility leads to exaltation (Luke 14:11)
Those who humble themselves shall be lifted by God.

c) Spiritual growth requires meekness and submission (Colossians 3:12-13)
Humble believers grow in character and wisdom.

d) Humility preserves intimacy with God (Micah 6:8)
Walking humbly keeps the heart aligned with God’s will.

Biblical Example:
Mary, the mother of Jesus, was chosen because of her humble submission and willingness to obey God’s plan (Luke 1:38).

CONCLUSION

Jesus revealed that God hides spiritual truths from the proud and reveals them to the humble. Human wisdom alone cannot unlock divine mysteries; spiritual understanding comes through humility, faith, dependence upon God, and openness to the Holy Spirit.

Believers who remain humble, teachable, and spiritually hungry will continue to grow in wisdom, revelation, and intimacy with God. Humility is the pathway to divine insight and Kingdom greatness.
