INTRODUCTION

Matthew chapter 17 records the glorious event known as the Mount of Transfiguration. Jesus took Peter, James, and John up into a high mountain where He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, His clothing became radiant with heavenly brightness, and Moses and Elijah appeared speaking with Him.

This extraordinary event revealed the divine glory hidden within Christ during His earthly ministry. The disciples saw beyond His ordinary human appearance and witnessed the majesty, holiness, and splendour of the Son of God. The glory revealed on the mountain confirmed Jesus as the eternal Son of God and the fulfilment of God’s redemptive plan.

Throughout Scripture, the glory of God represents His presence, power, holiness, majesty, and divine nature. God’s glory transforms lives, reveals truth, brings conviction, and demonstrates His authority.

Believers today are also called to experience and reflect God’s glory through fellowship with Christ and the transforming work of the Holy Spirit.

1. THE GLORY OF GOD IS REVEALED THROUGH JESUS CHRIST

Jesus is the perfect revelation of God’s glory.

a) Jesus was transfigured before the disciples (Matthew 17:2)
His divine glory became visible, revealing His heavenly identity and majesty.

b) Christ is the brightness of God’s glory (Hebrews 1:3)
Jesus perfectly reveals the nature, holiness, and power of God.

c) The disciples beheld the glory of Christ personally (John 1:14)
Through Jesus, humanity witnessed God’s grace, truth, and divine presence.

d) God’s glory confirms Christ’s authority and divinity (Matthew 17:5)
The Father publicly declared Jesus as His beloved Son whom all must hear and obey.

Biblical Example:
Moses experienced the glory of God on Mount Sinai and desired to see more of God’s presence and majesty (Exodus 33:18-23).

2. GOD’S GLORY BRINGS SPIRITUAL TRANSFORMATION

Encountering God changes the lives of believers.

a) The glory of God transforms believers progressively (2 Corinthians 3:18)
Fellowship with Christ changes believers into His image from glory to glory.

b) God’s presence purifies and strengthens His people (Isaiah 6:1-7)
Encounters with God expose sin, produce repentance, and inspire holiness.

c) Spiritual transformation begins inwardly before appearing outwardly (Romans 12:2)
God renews the mind, character, desires, and conduct of believers.

d) The Holy Spirit works continually within believers to reflect Christ’s nature (Galatians 5:22-23)
God’s glory becomes visible through righteous character and spiritual fruit.

Biblical Example:
After encountering Jesus, Zacchaeus experienced genuine transformation that changed his attitudes, priorities, and actions completely (Luke 19:1-10).

3. GOD’S GLORY REVEALS DIVINE PURPOSE AND DIRECTION

The presence of God brings revelation and spiritual clarity.

a) Moses and Elijah appeared speaking with Jesus (Matthew 17:3)
This confirmed God’s eternal plan and the fulfilment of Scripture through Christ.

b) God’s glory reveals spiritual truth and understanding (Psalm 119:130)
Divine revelation opens spiritual eyes and deepens faith.

c) The voice from heaven directed the disciples to listen to Jesus (Matthew 17:5)
God’s glory always points believers toward Christ and obedience to Him.

d) God’s presence provides guidance during uncertain seasons (Isaiah 30:21)
Fellowship with God brings wisdom, instruction, and clarity for life’s journey.

Biblical Example:
The pillar of cloud and fire guided Israel through the wilderness, demonstrating God’s glorious presence and direction (Exodus 13:21-22).

4. BELIEVERS ARE CALLED TO REFLECT GOD’S GLORY

Christians are meant to shine as lights in the world.

a) Believers are called to arise and shine spiritually (Isaiah 60:1)
God desires His glory to be revealed through the lives of His people.

b) The world should see Christ through believers’ conduct and character (Matthew 5:16)
Holy living and good works glorify God before others.

c) The Holy Spirit empowers believers to reflect God’s presence (Acts 1:8)
Spiritual power and effective witness flow from fellowship with God.

d) Eternal glory awaits faithful believers (Romans 8:18)
Present struggles cannot compare with the future glory prepared by God.

Biblical Example:
Stephen reflected God’s glory even during persecution, and his face appeared like that of an angel as he stood boldly for Christ (Acts 6:15).

CONCLUSION

The Mount of Transfiguration revealed the divine glory, majesty, and authority of Jesus Christ. Through this supernatural event, the disciples received deeper understanding concerning the identity and mission of Christ.

God’s glory not only reveals His presence but also transforms, guides, strengthens, and empowers believers. Christians are called to pursue deeper fellowship with God so that His glory may shine through their lives.

As believers walk closely with Christ through prayer, obedience, and the Holy Spirit, they increasingly reflect the beauty, holiness, and power of God to the world around them.
