Description: Every decision, whether great or small, should be guided by a sincere desire to honour God and align with His perfect will.
INTRODUCTION
Life is a continuous journey of decisions, and each choice we make carries consequences that shape our destiny, influence our relationships, and determine the direction of our spiritual growth. As believers, we are not called to live by impulse, emotion, or human reasoning alone, but by divine guidance that ensures our steps are ordered according to God’s purpose.
Honouring God in every decision means deliberately submitting our plans, desires, and ambitions to His will, even when it challenges our understanding or personal preferences. It requires a heart that is fully surrendered and willing to choose God’s way over convenience, comfort, or popular opinion.
This message emphasises that when God is prioritised in decision-making, He brings clarity, peace, and direction. A life that honours God in every decision becomes a life marked by divine favour, stability, and purposeful living.
1. TRUSTING GOD COMPLETELY IN DECISION-MAKING
Total reliance on God is the foundation for making decisions that honour Him and lead to lasting success.
a) Wholehearted Trust (Proverbs 3:5)
Trusting God with all your heart requires releasing control, rejecting doubt, and confidently depending on His wisdom even when circumstances appear uncertain or confusing.
b) Rejecting Self-Reliance (Jeremiah 17:5-7)
Leaning on human understanding often leads to error, but trusting in God positions you to receive divine insight and direction beyond natural reasoning.
c) Committing Your Plans (Psalm 37:5)
Entrusting your decisions to God invites His intervention, guidance, and establishment of your plans according to His perfect will.
d) Walking by Faith (2 Corinthians 5:7)
Decisions that honour God are not always logical or comfortable, but they are anchored in faith and confidence in His unfailing promises.
Biblical Example: Abraham trusted God when asked to sacrifice Isaac, demonstrating unwavering faith and honouring God above personal understanding (Genesis 22:1-12).
2. SEEKING GOD’S GUIDANCE THROUGH PRAYER AND THE WORD
Divine direction is accessed through intentional communication with God and consistent engagement with His Word.
a) Asking for Wisdom (James 1:5)
God generously gives wisdom to those who sincerely seek Him, ensuring that no believer is left without direction when they depend on Him.
b) Guidance Through Scripture (Psalm 119:105)
The Word of God illuminates the path, providing clarity and direction in moments of uncertainty and decision-making.
c) Hearing His Voice (Isaiah 30:21)
God speaks to His people, guiding them with clear instructions when they are attentive and sensitive to His leading.
d) Consistent Fellowship (John 15:4-5)
Remaining in close relationship with God ensures that your decisions are influenced by His presence and aligned with His will.
Biblical Example: David consistently enquired of the Lord before going into battle, ensuring victory through divine direction (1 Samuel 30:7-8).
3. ALIGNING DECISIONS WITH GOD’S WILL AND PURPOSE
Decisions that honour God must be consistent with His Word, His character, and His divine plan for your life.
a) Renewing the Mind (Romans 12:2)
Transformation of the mind enables discernment of God’s will, ensuring that decisions reflect His good, acceptable, and perfect purpose.
b) Acting for God’s Glory (Colossians 3:17)
Every decision should be made with the intention of glorifying God, whether in word, action, or thought.
c) Avoiding Compromise (1 Thessalonians 5:22)
Honouring God requires rejecting choices that contradict His Word or lead to spiritual compromise.
d) Walking in Obedience (Deuteronomy 28:1)
Obedience to God’s instructions ensures that decisions lead to blessings and divine favour.
Biblical Example: Joseph refused to sin against God when tempted, choosing righteousness over pleasure and thereby honouring God (Genesis 39:9).
4. TRUSTING GOD WITH THE OUTCOME
After making God-centred decisions, you must trust Him to handle the results and bring them to fulfilment.
a) God Directs Your Path (Proverbs 3:6)
When you acknowledge God in all your ways, He orders your steps and ensures your decisions lead to the right destination.
b) Peace as Confirmation (Philippians 4:6-7)
God’s peace guards your heart and mind, serving as assurance that your decisions are aligned with His will.
c) God Works All Things Together (Romans 8:28)
Even when outcomes seem unclear, God orchestrates everything for your good when you honour Him.
d) Patience in Process (Ecclesiastes 3:11)
Trusting God includes waiting for His timing, knowing that He makes everything beautiful in its season.
Biblical Example: Esther trusted God with the outcome when she approached the king, and her decision brought deliverance to her people (Esther 4:15-16).
CONCLUSION
Honouring God in every decision is a lifestyle that requires trust, obedience, and consistent reliance on His guidance. When God is prioritised in your choices, your life becomes aligned with His purpose, and your path is directed by His wisdom.
Make a conscious decision to involve God in every aspect of your life. Seek His guidance, follow His Word, and trust Him with the outcomes. As you do so, your decisions will reflect His glory, and your life will experience divine direction, favour, and fulfilment.
