Description: The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the foundation of our faith and the assurance of new life.

INTRODUCTION

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of the Christian faith. Without it, our belief would be empty, and our hope would be in vain. The question asked by the angels, “Why seek the living among the dead?” is both a revelation and a rebuke, calling believers to shift their focus from death to life, from despair to hope.

In Luke 24:1-8, the women came to the tomb expecting to find a dead body, but instead encountered an empty grave and a powerful message: Jesus is alive. Their expectations were shaped by human understanding, but God had already fulfilled His promise of resurrection. This moment changed everything, turning sorrow into joy and confusion into revelation.

This passage challenges us to examine where we are looking for answers. Many seek life in places of death: dead traditions, past failures, or worldly systems, while ignoring the living Christ. The resurrection calls us to lift our eyes and embrace the reality of a risen Saviour.

1. THE RESURRECTION CONFIRMS JESUS’ WORD

The empty tomb proves that everything Jesus said is true.

a) Fulfilled Promise (Luke 24:6-7)
Jesus had foretold His death and resurrection, and it came to pass exactly as He said.

b) God’s Word Is Reliable (Numbers 23:19)
God is not a man that He should lie; His promises never fail.

c) Strengthens Faith (John 2:22)
The disciples remembered His words and believed, showing that fulfilled prophecy builds faith.

d) Foundation of the Gospel (1 Corinthians 15:14)
Without the resurrection, preaching and faith would be in vain.

Biblical Example: Jonah’s three days in the belly of the fish foreshadowed Christ’s resurrection, confirming God’s prophetic Word (Jonah 1:17; Matthew 12:40).

2. THE RESURRECTION BRINGS NEW LIFE

Jesus’ victory over death gives believers a new beginning.

a) Raised to Newness of Life (Romans 6:4)
Believers are called to walk in newness of life through Christ’s resurrection.

b) Victory Over Death (1 Corinthians 15:54-55)
Death is swallowed up in victory through Jesus.

c) Living Hope (1 Peter 1:3)
The resurrection gives a living hope that sustains believers.

d) Transformation Power (2 Corinthians 5:17)
Anyone in Christ becomes a new creation, leaving the old behind.

Biblical Example: Lazarus was raised from the dead, demonstrating Christ’s power over death and pointing to the greater resurrection (John 11:43-44).

3. STOP SEEKING LIFE IN DEAD PLACES

Many miss the reality of Christ by holding on to what is lifeless.

a) Misplaced Expectations (Luke 24:5)
The women sought Jesus among the dead, reflecting limited understanding.

b) Leaving the Old Behind (Isaiah 43:18-19)
God calls us to forget former things and embrace the new.

c) Dead Works Cannot Give Life (Hebrews 9:14)
Religious routines without Christ cannot produce spiritual vitality.

d) Focus on the Living Christ (Colossians 3:1-2)
Set your affection on things above, where Christ is.

Biblical Example: Lot’s wife looked back at Sodom and was turned into a pillar of salt, illustrating the danger of clinging to the past (Genesis 19:26).

4. THE RESURRECTION DEMANDS A RESPONSE

The reality of a risen Christ requires action and commitment.

a) Remember His Word (Luke 24:8)
The women remembered His words, leading to understanding and faith.

b) Share the Good News (Matthew 28:7)
The resurrection message must be proclaimed to others.

c) Live in Resurrection Power (Philippians 3:10)
Believers are called to experience the power of His resurrection daily.

d) Walk in Boldness (Acts 4:33)
The apostles preached with great power because of the resurrection.

Biblical Example: The disciples, once fearful, became bold witnesses after encountering the risen Christ (Acts 2:14-32).

CONCLUSION

The question, “Why seek the living among the dead?” is a call to shift our focus from lifeless pursuits to the living Christ. The resurrection is not just an event to celebrate but a reality to live by. It confirms God’s Word, brings new life, and calls us to a higher perspective.

Embrace the risen Christ today. Let go of dead things and step into the life, power, and hope that His resurrection provides. As you do, your life will reflect the victory and glory of the risen Lord.
