INTRODUCTION
In Mark 16:15-18, Jesus gave His disciples what is known as the Great Commission. After His resurrection, He commissioned them to go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature. This command is not limited to the early disciples but extends to every believer.
The Gospel is the good news of salvation, and it carries the power to transform lives. However, it must be proclaimed for it to have impact. Jesus made it clear that believers are not to remain passive but to actively engage in spreading the message of the Kingdom.
Alongside this mandate, Jesus promised signs that would follow those who believe. This shows that evangelism is not only about words but also about demonstrating God’s power. The mission is both a responsibility and a privilege.
1. THE GREAT COMMISSION IS A DIVINE MANDATE
Every believer is called to preach the Gospel.
a) The command is for all believers (Mark 16:15)
Jesus did not limit this instruction to a select few; it is a universal assignment for everyone who follows Him.
b) The message must reach all nations (Matthew 28:19)
The Gospel is not confined to one location but is meant for every tribe, nation, and people group.
c) Preaching is essential for salvation (Romans 10:14)
People cannot believe in what they have not heard, making evangelism a necessity.
d) Obedience brings fulfilment (James 1:22)
Acting on this command aligns us with God’s purpose and brings spiritual fulfilment.
Biblical Example:
Philip preaching in Samaria (Acts 8:5-8) demonstrates obedience to the call to evangelise.
2. THE GOSPEL CARRIES THE POWER OF SALVATION
The message we preach has divine authority and impact.
a) The Gospel saves (Mark 16:16)
Those who believe and are baptised shall be saved, showing the life-changing power of the message.
b) It transforms lives (2 Corinthians 5:17)
The Gospel brings new birth and a complete transformation of identity.
c) It reveals God’s righteousness (Romans 1:16-17)
The Gospel unveils God’s plan of salvation through faith.
d) It delivers from bondage (Colossians 1:13)
Through the Gospel, people are translated from darkness into light.
Biblical Example:
The conversion of Saul (Acts 9:3-6) shows the transformative power of the Gospel.
3. SIGNS AND POWER ACCOMPANY BELIEVERS
God confirms His Word through supernatural manifestations.
a) Signs follow those who believe (Mark 16:17)
Jesus promised that miracles would accompany believers as confirmation of the Gospel.
b) Authority over the enemy (Luke 10:19)
Believers are given power to overcome the forces of darkness.
c) Healing and deliverance (Mark 16:18)
The sick shall recover, demonstrating God’s compassion and power.
d) The Holy Spirit empowers (Acts 1:8)
The ability to operate in power comes through the Holy Spirit.
Biblical Example:
The apostles performing miracles (Acts 5:12-16) shows the manifestation of divine power.
4. EVANGELISM REQUIRES BOLDNESS AND COMMITMENT
Sharing the Gospel demands courage and dedication.
a) Boldness is necessary (Acts 4:29)
Believers must pray for and walk in boldness to proclaim the truth without fear.
b) Do not be ashamed (Romans 1:16)
The Gospel is the power of God, and we must not shrink back from declaring it.
c) Perseverance is required (1 Corinthians 15:58)
The work of evangelism requires consistency and dedication.
d) Eternal rewards await (Daniel 12:3)
Those who lead others to righteousness will shine forever.
Biblical Example:
Paul’s missionary journeys (Acts 13:2-3) demonstrate commitment to spreading the Gospel.
CONCLUSION
The command to go into all the world is a call to action. Every believer has a role in spreading the Gospel and demonstrating God’s power. This is not just a task but a divine assignment with eternal significance.
As we obey this mandate, God works through us to bring salvation, healing, and transformation to the world. Let us rise with boldness, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and fulfil the Great Commission.
