INTRODUCTION
Life is filled with moments of divine opportunity, times when God draws near to intervene, heal, restore, and transform. These moments are often unexpected and brief, requiring sensitivity and readiness to respond. Many people miss their moment of visitation because of distraction, doubt, or delay.
In Luke 18:35-43, the story of blind Bartimaeus illustrates what happens when someone recognises and responds to such a moment. Though physically blind, he perceived spiritually that Jesus was passing by. Instead of remaining silent, he cried out persistently until he received attention and ultimately his miracle.
This passage teaches that when Jesus passes your way, your response determines your outcome. You must be alert, bold, and determined not to let the opportunity slip away.
1. DISCERNING YOUR MOMENT OF VISITATION
Spiritual sensitivity is required to recognise when God is at work.
a) Awareness of Jesus’ Presence (Luke 18:36)
Bartimaeus heard the crowd and enquired what was happening, demonstrating a desire to understand and recognise divine activity.
b) Spiritual Perception Beyond Circumstances (2 Kings 6:17)
Though physically blind, he perceived spiritually, showing that true sight is spiritual awareness.
c) Seeking Understanding (Proverbs 4:7)
Wisdom and understanding help believers discern divine opportunities.
d) Urgency of the Moment (Hebrews 3:15)
“Today” is emphasised as the time to respond, highlighting the importance of immediate action.
Biblical Example: The sons of Issachar understood the times and knew what Israel ought to do, demonstrating discernment of divine seasons (1 Chronicles 12:32).
2. CRYING OUT IN FAITH AND PERSISTENCE
Your response must be bold, vocal, and unwavering.
a) A Desperate Cry (Luke 18:38)
Bartimaeus cried out, “Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me,” expressing faith and desperation.
b) Refusing to Be Silenced (Luke 18:39)
Despite opposition, he cried even louder, showing determination not to miss his miracle.
c) Faith-Filled Declaration (Romans 10:10)
Confession with the mouth releases faith and connects to divine response.
d) Persistence in Seeking (Jeremiah 29:13)
Those who seek God with all their heart will find Him.
Biblical Example: The woman with the issue of blood pressed through the crowd to touch Jesus, demonstrating persistent faith (Mark 5:25-34).
3. REMOVING HINDRANCES TO YOUR BREAKTHROUGH
You must let go of anything that stands in the way of your miracle.
a) Casting Away the Garment (Mark 10:50)
Bartimaeus threw aside his garment, symbolising the removal of limitations and old identity.
b) Letting Go of Fear (2 Timothy 1:7)
Fear can hinder response, but faith empowers action.
c) Ignoring Negative Voices (Luke 18:39)
He refused to listen to those who tried to silence him, showing focus and determination.
d) Positioning for Encounter (James 4:8)
Drawing near to God positions one for divine intervention.
Biblical Example: Peter stepped out of the boat to walk on water, leaving his comfort zone to experience the miraculous (Matthew 14:28-29).
4. RECEIVING YOUR MIRACLE THROUGH FAITH
Faith activates divine response and brings manifestation.
a) Personal Encounter (Luke 18:40-41)
Jesus called Bartimaeus and asked what he desired, showing the importance of a personal request.
b) Clear Expectation (Luke 18:41)
He clearly stated his desire to receive sight, demonstrating focused faith.
c) Faith Releases Power (Luke 18:42)
Jesus declared that his faith had made him whole, showing that faith is the key to receiving.
d) Immediate Transformation (Luke 18:43)
His sight was restored instantly, and he followed Jesus, glorifying God.
Biblical Example: The ten lepers were healed as they acted in faith and obedience to Jesus’ instruction (Luke 17:12-19).
CONCLUSION
