Description: Believers are called to live by godly principles, rejecting worldly systems that oppose God’s truth and purpose.

INTRODUCTION

The world operates on values that often contradict the principles of God’s Kingdom, promoting self-centredness, materialism, pride, and moral compromise. As believers, we are called to live differently, reflecting the nature and character of Christ rather than conforming to societal pressures and ungodly standards.

Rejecting worldly values does not mean withdrawing from society, but rather living with a transformed mindset that is governed by God’s Word. It requires discernment to recognise what aligns with God and what does not, and courage to stand firm in righteousness even when it is unpopular.

This message emphasises that transformation begins in the mind. When believers renew their minds through Scripture and yield to the Holy Spirit, they gain the ability to discern God’s will and live in a way that honours Him above worldly expectations.

1. THE WORLD’S VALUES ARE TEMPORARY AND DECEPTIVE

Worldly systems offer temporary satisfaction but ultimately lead away from God’s purpose.

a) Lust of the Flesh and Eyes (1 John 2:16)
The world appeals to sinful desires, drawing believers away from godly living through temporary pleasures and distractions.

b) Passing Nature of the World (1 John 2:17)
Everything the world offers is temporary and will fade away, unlike the eternal promises of God.

c) Deceptive Standards (Proverbs 14:12)
What seems right in the eyes of the world often leads to destruction, highlighting the need for spiritual discernment.

d) Opposition to God (James 4:4)
Friendship with the world creates enmity with God, making it impossible to fully align with both.

Biblical Example: Demas forsook Paul because he loved the present world, illustrating how worldly values can pull believers away from their calling (2 Timothy 4:10).

2. TRANSFORMATION COMES THROUGH RENEWING THE MIND

A renewed mind enables believers to reject worldly thinking and embrace God’s truth.

a) Renewing Through the Word (Romans 12:2)
Transformation begins when the mind is aligned with Scripture rather than worldly philosophies.

b) Setting Your Mind Above (Colossians 3:2)
Focusing on heavenly realities helps detach from worldly distractions and priorities.

c) Thinking God’s Thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9)
God’s ways are higher than human ways, requiring a shift in perspective.

d) Discernment of Truth (Hebrews 5:14)
Mature believers develop the ability to distinguish between good and evil.

Biblical Example: Daniel refused to conform to Babylonian culture, maintaining a renewed mind and a godly standard (Daniel 1:8).

3. CHOOSING GOD’S APPROVAL OVER THE WORLD’S APPROVAL

Honouring God often requires standing against popular opinion and societal expectations.

a) Seeking to Please God (Galatians 1:10)
Living to please God rather than people requires courage and conviction.

b) Not Ashamed of the Gospel (Romans 1:16)
Boldly standing for truth reflects commitment to God’s values.

c) Enduring Persecution (2 Timothy 3:12)
Those who live godly lives may face opposition, but must remain steadfast.

d) Identity in Christ (Philippians 3:20)
Believers belong to heaven, and their conduct should reflect their divine citizenship.

Biblical Example: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to bow to the king’s image, choosing God’s approval over worldly pressure (Daniel 3:16-18).

4. LIVING BY KINGDOM VALUES

Rejecting worldly values means actively embracing God’s standards in daily living.

a) Walking in Love (1 Corinthians 13:4-7)
God’s Kingdom prioritises love, humility, and selflessness over selfish ambition.

b) Pursuing Holiness (1 Peter 1:15-16)
A holy life sets believers apart from worldly corruption.

c) Seeking God First (Matthew 6:33)
Prioritising God ensures that all other needs are met according to His will.

d) Bearing Fruit (Galatians 5:22-23)
The fruit of the Spirit reflects a life governed by God’s values rather than worldly desires.

Biblical Example: The early Christians lived counter-culturally, sharing resources and demonstrating love, reflecting Kingdom values (Acts 2:44-47).

CONCLUSION

Rejecting worldly values is a call to live a transformed life that reflects God’s truth and purpose. The world may offer temporary satisfaction, but only God’s way leads to lasting fulfilment and eternal reward. As believers, we must be intentional in aligning our thoughts, choices, and actions with God’s Word.

Choose daily to reject ungodly influences and embrace Kingdom values. As you renew your mind and walk in obedience, your life will stand as a testimony of God’s truth, power, and glory in a world that desperately needs His light.
