KINGDOM STEWARDSHIP

Description: Kingdom stewardship is the faithful management of everything God has entrusted to us for His glory and kingdom purposes. First Corinthians 16:1-4 teaches that our resources, time, abilities, and opportunities should be managed with faithfulness, generosity, wisdom, accountability, and eternal purpose.

INTRODUCTION

Stewardship begins with the understanding that God is the true owner of everything we possess. “The earth is the LORD'S, and the fulness thereof.” What we call “ours” has actually been entrusted to us by God. Our money, possessions, abilities, time, influence, opportunities, and spiritual gifts are resources that God expects us to manage faithfully.

In First Corinthians 16:1-4, Paul gives the Corinthian believers practical instructions concerning a collection for the saints. He instructs each believer to set something aside on the first day of the week and to give according to how God has prospered them. This demonstrates that kingdom stewardship should be intentional, regular, personal, and responsible.

Kingdom stewardship is more than giving money in church. It is the total surrender and responsible management of our lives for God's purposes. A good steward asks, “How can I use what God has entrusted to me to glorify Him, serve people, advance the Gospel, and prepare for eternity?” When we understand stewardship this way, every area of life becomes an opportunity to honour God.

1. GOD IS THE OWNER OF EVERYTHING

True stewardship begins with recognising God's ownership.

a) The Earth Belongs To God (Psalm 24:1)
Everything in creation ultimately belongs to the Lord.

b) God Owns Silver And Gold (Haggai 2:8)
Material resources belong to God.

c) God Gives Us Power To Prosper (Deuteronomy 8:18)
Our ability to acquire wealth comes from Him.

d) We Are Stewards Of God's Possessions (1 Chronicles 29:14)
What we possess is ultimately received from God's hand.

2. WE ARE CALLED TO BE FAITHFUL STEWARDS

God measures stewardship by faithfulness.

a) Faithfulness Is Required (1 Corinthians 4:2)
The primary requirement of a steward is faithfulness.

b) Be Faithful In Little Things (Luke 16:10)
Small responsibilities reveal our character.

c) Manage God's Resources Wisely (Luke 16:11)
Faithfulness in material things demonstrates spiritual maturity.

d) Give An Account To God (Romans 14:12)
Every person will ultimately answer to God for how life was managed.

3. STEWARDSHIP INCLUDES OUR FINANCES

Money should serve God's purposes rather than control our hearts.

a) Give According To God's Blessing (1 Corinthians 16:2)
Our giving should recognise God's provision.

b) Honour God With Your Possessions (Proverbs 3:9)
Financial resources can become instruments of worship.

c) Avoid The Love Of Money (1 Timothy 6:9-10)
Money is useful, but it must never become our master.

d) Use Wealth For Kingdom Purposes (Matthew 6:19-20)
Invest your resources in things that have eternal value.

4. STEWARDSHIP REQUIRES PLANNED GIVING

Paul's instruction shows that generosity should be deliberate.

a) Give Regularly (1 Corinthians 16:2)
Giving should become a consistent Christian practice.

b) Give Personally (1 Corinthians 16:2)
Every believer has a responsibility to participate.

c) Give Systematically (1 Corinthians 16:2)
Planning helps us become consistent and disciplined.

d) Give Proportionately (1 Corinthians 16:2)
Our giving should take into consideration how God has prospered us.

5. STEWARDSHIP INCLUDES OUR TIME

Time is one of God's gifts that cannot be recovered once wasted.

a) Redeem The Time (Ephesians 5:15-16)
Use your opportunities wisely.

b) Number Your Days (Psalm 90:12)
Recognise the brevity of earthly life.

c) Work While It Is Day (John 9:4)
There are opportunities for service that should not be postponed.

d) Do Not Waste Your Opportunities (Galatians 6:10)
Use every opportunity to do good.

6. STEWARDSHIP INCLUDES OUR GIFTS AND TALENTS

God has entrusted every believer with abilities for His purposes.

a) Every Believer Has A Gift (1 Peter 4:10)
God gives gifts so that believers can serve one another.

b) Use Your Gift Faithfully (Romans 12:6)
Gifts should not be buried or neglected.

c) Serve Others Through Your Gift (1 Peter 4:10)
Spiritual gifts are intended for ministry.

d) Give God The Glory (1 Peter 4:11)
Our abilities should ultimately point people to God.

7. STEWARDSHIP REQUIRES GENEROSITY

Kingdom stewards understand that resources are meant to bless others.

a) Give Cheerfully (2 Corinthians 9:7)
God desires willing generosity.

b) Give Sacrificially (2 Corinthians 8:3)
The Macedonian believers gave beyond their apparent ability.

c) Remember The Needy (Galatians 2:10)
The Church must care for people in genuine need.

d) Share With Others (Hebrews 13:16)
Doing good and sharing are sacrifices pleasing to God.

8. STEWARDSHIP REQUIRES ACCOUNTABILITY

Faithful stewardship includes transparency and responsibility.

a) Paul Planned For Accountability (1 Corinthians 16:3-4)
He arranged for the gift to be handled responsibly.

b) Handle God's Resources Honestly (2 Corinthians 8:20-21)
Financial matters should be managed with integrity.

c) Avoid Suspicion And Scandal (2 Corinthians 8:21)
Good stewardship protects the testimony of the Church.

d) Be Trustworthy (Proverbs 11:3)
Integrity must characterise every kingdom steward.

9. STEWARDSHIP HAS ETERNAL CONSEQUENCES

How we manage earthly resources reveals our eternal priorities.

a) Lay Up Treasures In Heaven (Matthew 6:19-20)
Jesus calls us to invest in eternal realities.

b) Your Treasure Reveals Your Heart (Matthew 6:21)
Our spending and giving reveal what we value.

c) We Will Give Account (Matthew 25:19)
God will evaluate how we managed what He entrusted to us.

d) Faithfulness Brings Reward (Matthew 25:21)
Faithful stewardship receives the Master's commendation.

10. LIVE AS A KINGDOM STEWARD

Stewardship is a lifestyle of surrender to God.

a) Present Your Whole Life To God (Romans 12:1)
Our bodies and lives belong to God.

b) Seek God's Kingdom First (Matthew 6:33)
Kingdom priorities should govern our decisions.

c) Serve The Lord Wholeheartedly (Colossians 3:23)
Everything we do should be done for God's glory.

d) Finish As A Faithful Steward (1 Corinthians 15:58)
Remain steadfast and continue faithfully in God's work.

CONCLUSION

Kingdom stewardship begins when we acknowledge that God owns everything and we are merely managers of what He has entrusted to us. Our finances, time, abilities, possessions, influence, and opportunities are all gifts from God. First Corinthians 16:1–4 teaches us to manage these resources intentionally, faithfully, generously, and responsibly.

Let us therefore refuse to live as owners who use everything merely for ourselves. Let us live as faithful stewards who ask how our lives and resources can advance God's kingdom. God is looking for faithful stewards, not merely successful accumulators. May our lives, resources, gifts, and opportunities be found faithfully serving God's purposes until Christ returns.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Father, help me to recognise that everything I have comes from You and belongs to You, in Jesus name.

2. Lord, make me a faithful and trustworthy steward of every resource You have entrusted to me, in Jesus name.

3. Father, give me wisdom to manage my finances, possessions, time, and opportunities according to Your will, in Jesus name.

4. Lord, deliver me from greed, covetousness, selfishness, and the love of money, in Jesus name.

5. Father, give me grace to give regularly, cheerfully, generously, and faithfully for the advancement of Your kingdom, in Jesus name.

6. Lord, help me to discover, develop, and faithfully use every gift and talent You have placed in me, in Jesus name.

7. Father, teach me to use my time wisely and never waste the opportunities You give me, in Jesus name.

8. Lord, give me integrity and accountability in handling every resource committed to my care, in Jesus name.

9. Father, help me to invest more in eternal things than in temporary earthly possessions, in Jesus name.

10. Lord, when You examine my stewardship, may You find me faithful, fruitful, generous, and worthy of Your commendation, in Jesus name.

PROPHETIC DECLARATIONS

1. You shall become a faithful and trustworthy steward of everything God has entrusted to you.

2. The Lord shall give you wisdom to manage your finances, possessions, time, and opportunities.

3. You shall not be controlled by greed, covetousness, or the love of money.

4. Your resources shall become instruments for advancing God's kingdom and blessing humanity.

5. You shall receive grace to give generously, cheerfully, consistently, and sacrificially.

6. Every gift and talent God has placed in you shall become fruitful for His kingdom.

7. You shall not waste your time, opportunities, or divine resources.

8. The Lord shall establish integrity, transparency, and accountability in every area of your stewardship.

9. You shall continually invest in things of eternal value, and your labour shall produce lasting kingdom fruit.

10. You shall remain a faithful kingdom steward until the end and hear the Master's commendation, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant,” in Jesus name.
