FINISHING YOUR ASSIGNMENT

Description: God does not only call believers to begin well; He calls them to finish faithfully. First Corinthians 15:58 challenges Christians to remain steadfast, unmoveable, and always abounding in the Lord's work. This message emphasises perseverance, discipline, faithfulness, and determination to complete every God-given assignment despite opposition, weariness, distractions, and difficulties.

INTRODUCTION

Beginning a task is often easier than completing it. Many people start with enthusiasm but lose momentum when difficulties arise. In the Christian life, however, God is interested not only in how we begin but also in how we finish. The Apostle Paul understood this principle and declared, “I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” His desire was to complete the ministry he had received from the Lord.

First Corinthians 15:58 comes after Paul's powerful teaching on the resurrection. Because Christ has risen, because believers will be raised, and because death will ultimately be defeated, Christians have every reason to remain committed to God's work. Our future resurrection gives meaning to our present labour. We must therefore refuse to allow temporary challenges to interrupt an eternal assignment.

Every believer has responsibilities entrusted by God. Some are called to preach, others to teach, lead, encourage, give, serve, pray, evangelise, disciple, care for others, or support the work of the Church. Whatever the assignment may be, the challenge is the same: remain faithful until it is completed. A successful Christian life is not merely about starting the race; it is about finishing well.

1. GOD GIVES US DIVINE ASSIGNMENTS

Every believer has a purpose to fulfil.

a) God Has Prepared Good Works (Ephesians 2:10)
We were created in Christ for works that God has prepared for us.

b) Everyone Has A Ministry (1 Peter 4:10)
Every believer has something to contribute to God's kingdom.

c) God Gives Different Assignments (Romans 12:4-8)
Different gifts produce different forms of service.

d) We Must Fulfil Our Ministry (Colossians 4:17)
Whatever God entrusts to us must be completed faithfully.

2. KNOW YOUR ASSIGNMENT

Clarity is essential for faithful completion.

a) Jesus Knew His Mission (John 4:34)
Christ understood that doing the Father's will was His priority.

b) Paul Knew His Calling (Acts 20:24)
Paul was determined to finish the ministry received from Christ.

c) Discover Your Spiritual Gifts (Romans 12:6)
Understanding your gifts helps you serve effectively.

d) Focus On Your Own Assignment (John 21:21-22)
Do not allow comparison with others to distract you.

3. BE STEADFAST IN YOUR ASSIGNMENT

Paul commands believers to remain firm.

Remain firmly committed to the work God has given you.

Do not allow circumstances to shift you from your purpose.

4. OVERCOME DISTRACTIONS

Many assignments are abandoned because of distractions.

A committed servant must remain focused.

b) Lay Aside Every Weight (Hebrews 12:1)
Some things may not be sinful but can hinder progress.

c) Keep Your Eyes On Jesus (Hebrews 12:2)
Christ must remain the centre of our attention.

Use your opportunities wisely.

5. ENDURE DIFFICULTIES

Every meaningful assignment will encounter challenges.

a) Expect Opposition (2 Timothy 3:12)
Faithfulness does not guarantee an easy journey.

b) Endure Hardship (2 Timothy 4:5)
God calls His servants to remain faithful under pressure.

c) Do Not Lose Heart (2 Corinthians 4:1)
Ministry challenges should not make us abandon our calling.

d) Draw Strength From God (Ephesians 6:10)
Our strength comes from the Lord.

6. DO NOT GROW WEARY

Fatigue can tempt believers to quit.

a) Do Not Become Weary (Galatians 6:9)
Continue doing good even when the harvest seems delayed.

God's appointed season will eventually come.

c) Renew Your Strength In God (Isaiah 40:31)
Those who wait upon the Lord receive renewed strength.

Perseverance is necessary for completion.

7. FOLLOW CHRIST'S EXAMPLE OF FINISHING WELL

Jesus demonstrated perfect commitment to His assignment.

a) Jesus Came To Do The Father's Will (Hebrews 10:7)
His life was completely surrendered to God's purpose.

b) Jesus Remained Focused (Luke 9:51)
He steadfastly set His face towards Jerusalem.

c) Jesus Completed His Work (John 17:4)
He could declare that He had finished the work given by the Father.

d) Jesus Declared, “It Is Finished” (John 19:30)
Christ completed His redemptive assignment on the cross.

8. FINISHING REQUIRES FAITHFULNESS

Completion demands consistent commitment.

a) Be Faithful In Little Things (Luke 16:10)
Faithfulness in small responsibilities prepares us for greater ones.

b) Be A Faithful Steward (1 Corinthians 4:2)
God requires faithfulness from those entrusted with responsibility.

c) Keep Your Commitment (Psalm 15:4)
God honours those who remain true to their word.

d) Remain Faithful Until Death (Revelation 2:10)
Our commitment must continue to the end.

9. YOUR LABOUR IS NOT IN VAIN

God gives eternal significance to faithful service.

a) God Sees Your Labour (Hebrews 6:10)
He does not forget your work of love.

b) Your Labour Matters (1 Corinthians 15:58)
Nothing done for Christ is wasted.

c) God Gives The Increase (1 Corinthians 3:6-7)
We labour faithfully while God produces the results.

d) A Reward Awaits (Revelation 22:12)
Christ will reward His servants according to their work.

10. FINISH YOUR RACE WITH JOY

The goal is not merely survival but faithful completion.

a) Finish Your Course (Acts 20:24)
Paul valued completing his God-given ministry.

b) Keep The Faith (2 Timothy 4:7)
Faithfulness to Christ must remain our priority.

c) Look Forward To The Reward (2 Timothy 4:8)
God has prepared a crown for those who remain faithful.

d) Hear The Master's “Well Done” (Matthew 25:21)
The greatest reward is the Master's approval.

CONCLUSION

God has entrusted every believer with an assignment, and He expects us to fulfil it faithfully. The journey may include difficulties, disappointments, delays, opposition, and seasons of weariness, but none of these should cause us to abandon our calling. The resurrection assures us that our labour has eternal value. Therefore, we must remain steadfast, unmoveable, and always abound in the work of the Lord.

Do not be satisfied merely with having started well. Determine by God's grace to finish well. Keep your eyes on Jesus, remain faithful to your calling, overcome distractions, endure hardship, and continue serving until the end. Like Paul, may we one day be able to say, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” Your assignment is worth completing, and your labour in the Lord is never in vain.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Father, help me to understand and faithfully fulfil every assignment You have given me, in Jesus name.

2. Lord, give me grace to remain steadfast and unmoveable throughout my Christian journey, in Jesus name.

3. Father, remove every distraction, burden, and entanglement that can hinder me from completing my assignment, in Jesus name.

4. Lord, strengthen me to endure every difficulty and opposition I encounter in Your service, in Jesus name.

5. Father, renew my strength whenever I become weary, discouraged, or tempted to give up, in Jesus name.

6. Lord, help me to keep my eyes on Jesus and remain focused on the purpose You have given me, in Jesus name.

7. Father, make me faithful in every responsibility, whether great or small, that You have entrusted to me, in Jesus name.

8. Lord, let my labour produce lasting fruit and impact lives for Your kingdom, in Jesus name.

9. Father, help me to remain faithful to the end and finish my Christian race with joy, in Jesus name.

10. Lord, when my earthly assignment is complete, let me receive Your commendation and eternal reward, in Jesus name.

PROPHETIC DECLARATIONS

1. You shall receive grace to fulfil every assignment God has committed to your hands.

2. You shall not abandon your divine purpose before its completion.

3. Every distraction designed to derail your assignment shall be removed from your path.

4. The Lord shall renew your strength whenever you become weary.

5. You shall overcome every opposition standing against the fulfilment of your calling.

6. You shall remain steadfast, unmoveable, and firmly established in Christ.

7. Your gifts and abilities shall produce lasting fruit for the kingdom of God.

8. Every seed of faithful labour you have sown shall produce an appointed harvest.

9. You shall finish your race well, keep the faith, and complete your God-given assignment.

10. You shall fulfil your days and divine assignment, finish well, and receive the Master's commendation and eternal reward, in Jesus name.
