Description: Honouring God is not limited to church services, prayer meetings, or public ministry. It is a daily lifestyle of making choices, conducting relationships, performing responsibilities, using resources, and responding to circumstances in ways that please and glorify God.

INTRODUCTION

Many believers separate their spiritual lives from their everyday lives. They honour God during worship but may forget Him in their workplaces, businesses, homes, relationships, conversations, finances, and private decisions. However, 1 Corinthians 10:31 teaches that everything we do can become an opportunity to glorify God.

Paul's instruction is comprehensive: “Whatsoever ye do.” This means that Christianity is not merely a Sunday experience. God is concerned about how we conduct ourselves every day, whether anyone is watching or not. Our ordinary activities can become acts of worship when they are performed with the right heart and for God's glory.

To honour God daily, we must consciously acknowledge Him in every area of life. Our words should honour Him, our work should honour Him, our relationships should honour Him, and our choices should reflect His character. When believers live this way, their everyday lives become a living testimony of the reality of Christ.

1. MAKE GOD'S GLORY THE PURPOSE OF YOUR LIFE

Everything begins with the right motivation.

a) Do Everything For God's Glory (1 Corinthians 10:31)
God should be the ultimate purpose behind everything we do.

b) Live As God's Representatives (2 Corinthians 5:20)
Our conduct should accurately represent Christ to others.

c) Seek God's Approval (Galatians 1:10)
The desire to please God must be greater than the desire for human applause.

d) Offer Your Whole Life To God (Romans 12:1)
Our entire lives should become a living sacrifice of worship.

Biblical Example: Paul considered his entire life and ministry an offering to God's purpose (Philippians 1:20-21).

2. HONOUR GOD IN YOUR THOUGHTS

God is concerned about our inner life.

a) Guard Your Heart (Proverbs 4:23)
Our thoughts influence our words, choices, and actions.

b) Think On What Is Pure (Philippians 4:8)
Godly thoughts produce godly conduct.

c) Take Thoughts Captive (2 Corinthians 10:5)
We must bring ungodly thoughts under Christ's authority.

d) Set Your Mind On Things Above (Colossians 3:2)
Our minds should be occupied with eternal and godly realities.

Biblical Example: Joseph refused to entertain the sinful opportunity presented to him because his heart was committed to honouring God (Genesis 39:9).

3. HONOUR GOD WITH YOUR WORDS

Our speech reveals the condition of our hearts.

a) Speak Truth (Ephesians 4:25)
Honouring God requires honesty in our communication.

b) Speak Grace (Colossians 4:6)
Our words should be gracious and appropriate.

c) Avoid Corrupt Communication (Ephesians 4:29)
Believers should reject words that damage others.

d) Control Your Tongue (James 1:26)
Religious activity becomes meaningless when the tongue remains uncontrolled.

Biblical Example: Isaiah recognised the need for purification of his lips before entering deeper into God's service (Isaiah 6:5-7).

4. HONOUR GOD THROUGH YOUR WORK

Work is also an opportunity to glorify God.

a) Work Wholeheartedly (Colossians 3:23)
Whatever we do should be done sincerely as unto the Lord.

b) Be Diligent (Proverbs 22:29)
Excellence and diligence can bring honour to God.

c) Be Honest (Proverbs 11:1)
God is concerned about integrity in business and daily dealings.

d) Serve Faithfully (Colossians 3:24)
Remember that ultimately we are serving Christ.

Biblical Example: Daniel distinguished himself through excellence, integrity, and faithfulness in his responsibilities (Daniel 6:3-4).

5. HONOUR GOD IN YOUR RELATIONSHIPS

Our treatment of people reflects our relationship with God.

a) Walk In Love (John 13:34-35)
Christlike love should characterise our relationships.

b) Honour Others (Romans 12:10)
Believers should value and respect one another.

c) Forgive Others (Colossians 3:13)
Forgiveness reflects God's grace towards us.

d) Pursue Peace (Romans 12:18)
We should do everything possible to maintain peaceful relationships.

Biblical Example: Joseph demonstrated forgiveness towards his brothers rather than seeking revenge for their past actions (Genesis 50:19-21).

6. HONOUR GOD WITH YOUR BODY

Our bodies belong to God.

a) Your Body Is God's Temple (1 Corinthians 6:19)
The Holy Spirit dwells within believers.

b) Glorify God In Your Body (1 Corinthians 6:20)
Our physical lives should honour the One who purchased us.

c) Practise Moral Purity (1 Thessalonians 4:3-4)
Sexual purity is part of Christian holiness.

d) Present Your Body To God (Romans 12:1)
Our bodies should be dedicated to God's service.

Biblical Example: Joseph chose purity when confronted with sexual temptation rather than dishonouring God (Genesis 39:7-12).

7. HONOUR GOD WITH YOUR RESOURCES

How we handle what God gives us reveals our priorities.

a) Honour God With Your Substance (Proverbs 3:9)
Our resources should acknowledge God as the source of our provision.

b) Give Generously (2 Corinthians 9:7)
God values cheerful and willing generosity.

c) Avoid The Love Of Money (1 Timothy 6:9-10)
Money must remain a servant rather than becoming a master.

d) Be A Faithful Steward (Luke 16:10-12)
God expects faithfulness in what He entrusts to us.

Biblical Example: Barnabas demonstrated generosity by willingly giving from his possessions to support the needs of believers (Acts 4:36-37).

8. HONOUR GOD IN EVERY CIRCUMSTANCE

Our worship should not depend on favourable conditions.

a) Trust God In Difficulties (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Honouring God means trusting Him even when we do not understand.

b) Give Thanks In All Things (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
Gratitude keeps our hearts focused on God's faithfulness.

c) Maintain Your Testimony Under Pressure (1 Peter 2:12)
Our conduct during adversity can influence unbelievers.

d) Remain Faithful Until The End (Revelation 2:10)
God deserves our faithfulness in every season.

Biblical Example: Job continued to acknowledge God's sovereignty despite tremendous loss and suffering (Job 1:20-22).

CONCLUSION

Honouring God in daily living means recognising that there is no area of life that is outside His interest. Our worship, work, family life, friendships, business dealings, speech, thoughts, finances, bodies, and private decisions can all bring glory to God. Christianity is not merely something we practise in church; it is a lifestyle we live every day.

Therefore, let us ask ourselves before making every significant decision: “Will this honour God?” Let that question guide our conduct. May our lives become living testimonies that cause people to see Christ in us. Whether we eat, drink, work, serve, speak, give, or relate with others, may everything we do bring glory to God.
