BEING STRONG IN THE LORD

Description: Being strong in the Lord means depending on God's power rather than human strength to remain faithful, overcome opposition, resist temptation, and fulfil God's purposes. INTRODUCTION

Every believer encounters situations that expose the limitations of human strength. There are battles that cannot be won by physical ability, financial resources, intelligence, connections, or experience. God therefore calls His people to draw their strength from Him. Spiritual strength is not the absence of weakness; it is learning to depend upon God's unlimited power in the midst of our limitations.

Paul's command in 1 Corinthians 16:13 is both a warning and an encouragement: “Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.” The believer must remain alert, stand firmly on the truth, act courageously, and become spiritually strong. This strength is necessary because the Christian life involves spiritual warfare, temptation, trials, responsibilities, and opposition.

God never intended His children to face life's battles alone. His presence, His Word, His Spirit, His grace, and His promises provide everything we need to remain strong. When our strength fails, His strength remains sufficient. When we depend on Him, we can face difficult circumstances without surrendering our faith or abandoning our divine assignment.

1. RECOGNISE THAT YOUR STRENGTH COMES FROM GOD

Spiritual strength begins with acknowledging our dependence upon God.

a) God Is Our Strength (Psalm 28:7)
The Lord is the source of the believer's strength and confidence.

b) Human Strength Is Limited (Psalm 33:16-17)
No human resource can replace God's power.

c) God's Power Is Unlimited (Jeremiah 32:17)
Nothing is too difficult for the Lord.

d) Depend On God Continually (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Trusting God keeps us from depending entirely on our own understanding.

2. BE STRONG IN THE LORD

God provides strength for every assignment He gives.

a) Be Strong In His Mighty Power (Ephesians 6:10)
The believer's strength comes from God's power.

b) Be Strong In Grace (2 Timothy 2:1)
Grace provides strength for faithful Christian living.

c) Rely On The Holy Spirit (Zechariah 4:6)
God's work is accomplished by His Spirit rather than human might.

d) Draw Strength From Christ (Philippians 4:13)
Christ enables believers to endure and accomplish what He calls them to do.

3. STAND FIRM IN THE FAITH

Spiritual strength produces stability.

a) Stand Fast In The Faith (1 Corinthians 16:13)
Do not allow pressure to move you away from biblical truth.

b) Stand On God's Word (Matthew 7:24-25)
A life built on God's Word can withstand storms.

c) Hold Fast Your Confession (Hebrews 10:23)
Remain confident in God's promises.

d) Be Rooted And Built Up In Christ (Colossians 2:6-7)
Spiritual roots produce spiritual stability.

4. WATCH AGAINST SPIRITUAL ATTACKS

Strong believers remain spiritually alert.

a) Watch And Pray (Matthew 26:41)
Prayer and vigilance protect us from temptation.

b) Be Sober And Vigilant (1 Peter 5:8)
The enemy seeks opportunities to weaken believers.

c) Guard Your Heart (Proverbs 4:23)
Our spiritual lives must be carefully protected.

d) Discern The Enemy's Strategies (2 Corinthians 2:11)
Spiritual awareness helps us avoid unnecessary defeat.

5. DRAW STRENGTH FROM GOD'S WORD

The Word of God strengthens the inner person.

a) God's Word Gives Life (Psalm 119:50)
Scripture brings encouragement in difficult seasons.

b) Meditate On The Word (Joshua 1:8)
Meditation strengthens our confidence and obedience.

c) Let The Word Dwell Richly In You (Colossians 3:16)
A Scripture-filled heart is better equipped to face challenges.

d) Use The Word Against Temptation (Matthew 4:4)
Jesus demonstrated the power of Scripture in spiritual battle.

6. BE STRONG THROUGH PRAYER

Prayer connects our weakness with God's strength.

a) Pray Without Ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
Continual prayer keeps us dependent on God.

b) Pray In Every Situation (Philippians 4:6)
Instead of being controlled by anxiety, take everything to God.

c) Pray For Strength (Ephesians 3:16)
God strengthens believers in their inner being through His Spirit.

d) Pray In The Spirit (Ephesians 6:18)
Spirit-led prayer helps us remain spiritually alert.

7. FIND STRENGTH IN GOD DURING TRIALS

Difficult seasons can become opportunities to experience God's power.

a) God's Grace Is Sufficient (2 Corinthians 12:9)
His grace sustains us when our own strength is inadequate.

b) Do Not Fear (Isaiah 41:10)
God promises to strengthen and uphold His people.

c) Wait Upon The Lord (Isaiah 40:31)
Those who wait on God receive renewed strength.

d) Rejoice In Trials (James 1:2-4)
Trials can develop endurance and spiritual maturity.

8. BE COURAGEOUS IN THE FACE OF OPPOSITION

Strength enables believers to remain courageous.

a) Do Not Fear People (Proverbs 29:25)
Fear of people can prevent obedience to God.

b) Be Strong And Courageous (Joshua 1:9)
God's presence provides the courage needed for difficult assignments.

c) Stand For Truth (Ephesians 6:14)
Spiritual strength enables us to maintain our convictions.

d) Be Bold In Witnessing (Acts 4:29-31)
The early believers sought divine boldness to proclaim Christ.

9. USE GOD'S STRENGTH TO SERVE

Strength from God is given for kingdom purposes.

a) Serve With The Gift God Has Given You (1 Peter 4:10)
God equips us so that we can serve others.

b) Do Not Grow Weary (Galatians 6:9)
God's strength enables continued service.

c) Abound In The Work Of The Lord (1 Corinthians 15:58)
Spiritual strength should produce consistent labour.

d) Fulfil Your Ministry (2 Timothy 4:5)
Remain committed to the assignment God has given you.

10. REMAIN STRONG UNTIL THE END

The goal is not merely to become strong but to remain strong.

a) Continue In The Faith (Acts 14:22)
Christian perseverance requires continued dependence upon God.

b) Keep The Faith (2 Timothy 4:7)
Paul remained faithful until the completion of his race.

c) Finish Your Course (Acts 20:24)
Do not abandon your divine assignment.

d) Receive The Crown (James 1:12)
Those who endure faithfully will receive God's promised reward.

CONCLUSION

Being strong in the Lord does not mean that we will never feel weak, afraid, tired, or discouraged. It means that when our human strength is insufficient, we know where to turn. God provides strength through His Word, His Spirit, prayer, His grace, and the fellowship of His people. Our responsibility is to remain connected to Him and continually draw from His inexhaustible strength.

Therefore, watch, stand fast in the faith, be courageous, and be strong. Do not surrender because the battle is difficult. Do not retreat because opposition is strong. Do not abandon your assignment because you feel inadequate. The God who called you is able to strengthen you. His grace is sufficient, His power is available, and His presence will sustain you until you finish your race.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Father, help me to depend completely upon Your strength rather than my own ability, in Jesus name.

2. Lord, strengthen me in my inner being through the power of the Holy Spirit, in Jesus name.

3. Father, establish me firmly in the faith so that nothing will move me away from You, in Jesus name.

4. Lord, make me spiritually alert and deliver me from every temptation and strategy of the enemy, in Jesus name.

5. Father, fill my heart with Your Word and let Your promises strengthen me in every difficult season, in Jesus name.

6. Lord, strengthen my prayer life and teach me to seek You continually, in Jesus name.

7. Father, give me courage to face every opposition, challenge, and spiritual battle without fear, in Jesus name.

8. Lord, renew my strength whenever I become weary, discouraged, or overwhelmed, in Jesus name.

9. Father, empower me to serve You faithfully and fulfil every assignment You have committed into my hands, in Jesus name.

10. Lord, keep me strong in You until the end, help me to finish my course faithfully, and let me receive the crown of life, in Jesus name.

PROPHETIC DECLARATIONS

1. The Lord shall be your strength in every season of your life.

2. You shall not be overcome by weakness, fear, discouragement, or adversity.

3. Your faith shall remain firmly established in Christ.

4. The Holy Spirit shall strengthen you in your inner being.

5. Every strategy of the enemy against your spiritual life shall fail.

6. God's Word shall continually renew your mind and strengthen your heart.

7. You shall receive courage to face every opposition and overcome every spiritual battle.

8. Whenever you are weak, the grace and power of God shall sustain you.

9. You shall remain strong and fruitful in Christian service and fulfil your divine assignment.

10. You shall watch, stand firm in the faith, be strong in the Lord, finish your course faithfully, and receive your eternal reward, in Jesus name.
