INTRODUCTION:
The covenant is God’s divine agreement with His people, full of promises, responsibilities, and blessings. Invoking the covenant means calling upon God to act based on His covenant promises. It is a way of reminding God of His Word and standing firmly on the assurances He has given. When we invoke the covenant, we activate its benefits in our lives and situations. This teaching explores how believers can effectively invoke the covenant and experience its power.
1. KNOWING THE TERMS OF THE COVENANT
a) Study the covenant promises
Familiarity with God’s promises is key to invoking them (Deuteronomy 28:1-14).
b) Understand your responsibilities
Covenant blessings are activated by obedience (Exodus 19:5).
c) Recognise the covenant-keeping nature of God
God never breaks His covenant (Psalm 89:34).
d) Walk in covenant relationship
A relationship with God ensures access to His promises (Genesis 17:1).
e) Biblical Example: Abraham invoked the covenant by obeying God, leading to generational blessings (Genesis 22:16-18).
2. PRAYING WITH THE WORD OF THE COVENANT
a) Present God’s promises back to Him
Remind God of His covenant Word (Isaiah 43:26).
b) Use scriptural declarations
Speak God’s Word over your situation (Psalm 91:2).
c) Engage in fervent prayer
Persistent prayer activates covenant promises (James 5:16).
d) Combine prayer with thanksgiving
Thank God for His covenant faithfulness (Psalm 100:4-5).
e) Biblical Example: Hezekiah prayed with the covenant promises, and God intervened (Isaiah 38:2-6).
3. APPLYING THE BLOOD OF JESUS
a) Understand the New Covenant through Christ
Jesus’ blood established a better covenant (Hebrews 8:6).
b) Plead the blood in prayer
The blood of Jesus gives access to covenant blessings (Hebrews 12:24).
c) Break curses and limitations
The blood nullifies negative covenants (Colossians 2:14).
d) Access divine favour and protection
The blood ensures safety and provision (Exodus 12:13).
e) Biblical Example: The Israelites invoked the blood covenant during the Passover for deliverance (Exodus 12:7-13).
4. LIVING IN OBEDIENCE AND HOLINESS
a) Obey God’s instructions
Obedience is the foundation of covenant blessings (Deuteronomy 28:1).
b) Live a life of holiness
Holiness aligns you with God’s covenant (1 Peter 1:15-16).
c) Trust in God’s faithfulness
Rely on God’s unchanging nature (2 Timothy 2:13).
d) Walk in covenant confidence
Believe that God will fulfil His promises (Hebrews 11:6).
e) Biblical Example: Noah lived in obedience, and the covenant of preservation was fulfilled (Genesis 6:22, 9:8-11).
5. PARTNERING WITH GOD THROUGH SACRIFICE
a) Offer sacrifices of praise and worship
Praise invites God’s covenantal presence (Psalm 50:5).
b) Give offerings and tithes
Generosity connects you to covenant blessings (Malachi 3:10).
c) Serve God faithfully
Service is an act of covenant alignment (Exodus 23:25).
d) Sow seeds of faith
Your seed triggers covenant harvest (Genesis 8:22).
e) Biblical Example: Solomon’s sacrificial offering invoked God’s covenantal blessing (1 Kings 3:4-14).
