INTRODUCTION:
God is our refuge and fortress, shielding His people from harm and danger. Divine protection means that God safeguards His children from both physical and spiritual attacks. In a world full of uncertainties, evil plots, and hidden dangers, God's protection is sure for those who trust in Him. This sermon will explore how God provides divine protection and how believers can dwell under His covering.
1. GOD PROTECTS HIS PEOPLE FROM DANGERS AND EVIL PLOTS
God is aware of every scheme of the enemy and shields His children from harm.
a) God Frustrates the Plans of the Wicked – He overturns evil conspiracies (Job 5:12).
b) No Weapon Formed Against You Shall Prosper – Every plan of the enemy is nullified (Isaiah 54:17).
c) God Preserves His Own from Harm – The righteous are kept safe (Proverbs 2:8).
d) The Angel of the Lord Encamps Around His People – Divine security is guaranteed (Psalm 34:7).
e) Biblical Example:
Daniel in the Lion’s Den (Daniel 6:16-23) – God shut the mouths of the lions and protected Daniel.
2. GOD PROTECTS HIS PEOPLE THROUGH HIS NAME AND HIS WORD
The name of the Lord and His Word serve as shields of protection for His children.
a) The Name of the Lord Is a Strong Tower – The righteous find safety in His name (Proverbs 18:10).
b) God’s Word Is a Shield – His promises are a source of refuge (Psalm 119:114).
c) The Word of God Guides and Guards – His instructions keep us from harm (Psalm 119:105).
d) Speaking the Word Activates Divine Protection – Declaring God’s Word enforces His covering (Matthew 4:4).
e) Biblical Example:
Jesus Resisted Satan with the Word (Matthew 4:1-11) – Jesus overcame temptation by declaring God’s Word.
3. GOD PROTECTS HIS PEOPLE THROUGH HIS PRESENCE
God’s presence guarantees safety from all forms of evil.
a) Those Who Dwell in His Presence Are Covered – Abiding in Him ensures protection (Psalm 91:1).
b) His Presence Drives Away the Enemy – Darkness flees when God is near (Exodus 33:14-15).
c) He Covers Us with His Wings – Under His shadow, we find refuge (Psalm 91:4).
d) Fear Is Removed in His Presence – His nearness dispels anxiety (Isaiah 41:10).
e) Biblical Example:
The Israelites in the Wilderness (Exodus 13:21-22) – God’s pillar of cloud and fire protected them.
4. GOD PROTECTS HIS PEOPLE THROUGH HIS ANGELS
God assigns angels to guard and deliver His children from harm.
a) Angels Are Ministering Spirits for Believers – They serve those who trust in God (Hebrews 1:14).
b) Angels Provide Supernatural Protection – They defend God’s people (Psalm 91:11-12).
c) God Sends Angels in Times of Danger – Divine messengers intervene on our behalf (Acts 12:7-10).
d) Angels War Against the Enemy – They fight for God’s people (2 Kings 6:16-17).
e) Biblical Example:
Peter’s Miraculous Escape from Prison (Acts 12:5-11) – An angel rescued Peter from Herod’s prison.
5. GOD PROTECTS HIS PEOPLE FROM SPIRITUAL ATTACKS
The greatest battles believers face are spiritual, but God gives us victory.
a) We Wrestle Not Against Flesh and Blood – Our real battle is spiritual (Ephesians 6:12).
b) The Blood of Jesus Covers and Protects – His sacrifice secures our safety (Revelation 12:11).
c) The Armour of God Shields Us from the Enemy – Spiritual protection is necessary (Ephesians 6:10-18).
d) God Gives Us Power Over the Enemy – We have dominion through Christ (Luke 10:19).
e) Biblical Example:
Job’s Hedge of Protection (Job 1:9-10) – Satan recognised that God had placed a protective hedge around Job.
CONCLUSION:
God’s divine protection is available to all who put their trust in Him. Whether from physical harm, spiritual attacks, or hidden dangers, He is our refuge and fortress.
