INTRODUCTION:

A vow is a solemn promise made to God, often during times of distress or great need, with the expectation of divine intervention. Many people throughout the Bible made vows and experienced remarkable breakthroughs when they fulfilled them. Hannah's story is a prime example of how a sincere vow can lead to divine intervention. When she was barren, she made a vow to God, and He answered her by giving her Samuel, one of the greatest prophets of Israel.

1. UNDERSTANDING THE POWER OF A VOW

  • a) A Vow is a Spiritual Covenant (Numbers 30:2)
When you make a vow, you enter into a binding agreement with God.
  • b) Vows Are Taken Seriously by God (Ecclesiastes 5:4-6)
Breaking a vow can bring consequences, while fulfilling it brings blessings.
  • c) Vows are Often Made in Times of Crisis (1 Samuel 1:11)
Hannah made her vow when she desperately desired a child.
  • d) Vows Require Faith and Trust in God (Genesis 28:20-22)
Jacob vowed to serve God if God blessed and protected him.
  • e) Biblical Example: Jonah (Jonah 2:9-10)
Jonah made a vow inside the belly of the fish, and God delivered him.

2. HANNAH'S VOW AND GOD'S INTERVENTION

  • a) Hannah’s Barrenness (1 Samuel 1:2-6)
She suffered years of childlessness and ridicule.
  • b) Her Prayer and Vow (1 Samuel 1:11)
She vowed to dedicate her son to God if He answered her prayer.
  • c) God Answered Her Prayer (1 Samuel 1:19-20)
The Lord remembered her, and she conceived and bore Samuel.
  • d) Hannah Fulfilled Her Vow (1 Samuel 1:24-28)
She gave Samuel back to God, just as she had promised.
  • e) Biblical Example: Jephthah (Judges 11:30-31, 34-35)
He made a vow before battle, and God granted him victory.

3. THE BLESSINGS OF KEEPING YOUR VOWS

  • a) Divine Remembrance (1 Samuel 1:19)
God honours those who keep their vows.
  • b) Supernatural Provision (Genesis 28:20-22)
Jacob’s vow led to God’s abundant blessings.
  • c) Breakthrough in Difficult Situations (Psalm 50:14-15)
Fulfilling vows can lead to miraculous deliverance.
  • d) Multiplication of Blessings (1 Samuel 2:21)
Because Hannah fulfilled her vow, God blessed her with more children.
  • e) Biblical Example: David (Psalm 116:12-14)
David committed to keeping his vows and enjoyed God's faithfulness.

4. WHY PEOPLE FAIL TO PAY THEIR VOWS

  • a) Forgetfulness (Deuteronomy 8:18-19)
Many forget their vows once they receive their breakthrough.
  • b) Fear of Sacrifice (Malachi 1:8, 14)
Some hesitate to pay their vows because of the cost involved.
  • c) Doubt and Unbelief (Matthew 6:30-33)
Lack of faith makes people hesitant to fulfil their commitments.
  • d) Materialism and Greed (1 Timothy 6:9-10)
Some become too attached to their blessings and fail to give back.
  • e) Biblical Example: Ananias and Sapphira (Acts 5:1-11)
They promised to give but held back, leading to divine judgment.

5. HOW TO FULFIL YOUR VOWS AND EXPERIENCE DIVINE INTERVENTION

  • a) Make Only Sincere and Thoughtful Vows (Ecclesiastes 5:2)
Be careful not to make rash promises.
  • b) Keep Records of Your Vows (Habakkuk 2:2-3)
Writing them down helps in remembering and fulfilling them.
  • c) Pray for Strength to Fulfil Your Vows (Philippians 4:13)
Ask God for the grace to remain faithful.
  • d) Put God First in Your Life (Matthew 6:33)
Prioritising God ensures you honour your commitments.
  • e) Biblical Example: The Israelites (Psalm 78:36-37)
They made promises to God but often failed to keep them.

CONCLUSION:

Vows are a powerful key to divine intervention when made sincerely and fulfilled faithfully. Hannah’s story shows us that God honours those who honour Him. If we want to experience supernatural breakthroughs, we must be committed to keeping our promises to God.
