INTRODUCTION:

God has always placed a divine covering over His anointed ones—those He has set apart for His purpose. From the patriarchs to the prophets, and now to every believer in Christ, God's protection remains steadfast. The phrase “Touch not my anointed” is both a divine warning and a statement of authority, showing that those who belong to God are under His special care.

However, many misunderstand this verse, limiting it only to pastors and prophets. While spiritual leaders are certainly included, every believer who has received the Holy Spirit is anointed by God (1 John 2:27). In this sermon, we will explore the depth of this divine protection, its implications, and how believers can walk confidently under God’s covering.

1. WHO ARE THE ANOINTED?

Many assume that only pastors, prophets, or ministers are anointed, but Scripture reveals that every child of God is anointed by Him.

a) The Anointed Are God’s Chosen People (1 Peter 2:9)

Every believer in Christ is a chosen generation, set apart for God’s glory. His anointing empowers us to fulfil our divine purpose.

b) The Anointed Carry God’s Presence (Exodus 33:14)

God’s anointing signifies His presence. Wherever His anointed ones go, He goes with them, ensuring their victory over opposition.

c) The Anointed Walk in Divine Authority (Luke 10:19)

God has given His anointed power over all the works of the enemy. This authority enables believers to stand firm against attacks.

d) The Anointed Are Sealed with the Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 1:21-22)

The anointing is not just oil on the head but the Holy Spirit dwelling within. Every believer carries the seal of divine protection.

e) Biblical Example: King David’s Respect for Saul (1 Samuel 24:6)

Although Saul sought to kill David, David refused to harm him because he was the Lord’s anointed. This shows that God's anointing is sacred and must be honoured.

2. THE DANGER OF TOUCHING GOD’S ANOINTED

When people rise against the anointed of God, they place themselves in danger of divine judgment.

a) Divine Protection Over God’s Servants (Isaiah 54:17)

No weapon formed against God's anointed will prosper. Those who fight them ultimately fight against God Himself.

b) God Judges Those Who Oppose His Anointed (Numbers 12:1-10)

When Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses, God struck Miriam with leprosy as a warning that His anointed must not be opposed.

c) Those Who Dishonour the Anointed Face Consequences (2 Kings 2:23-24)

The young men who mocked Elisha were devoured by bears. Dishonouring the anointed carries grave consequences.

d) Fighting the Anointed Is Fighting God (Acts 9:4-5)

When Saul persecuted Christians, Jesus confronted him, saying, “Why are you persecuting Me?” Attacking God's anointed is attacking God Himself.

e) Biblical Example: Haman’s Plot Against Mordecai (Esther 7:10)

Haman planned to destroy Mordecai and the Jews, but God turned the evil back on him, and he was hanged on the very gallows he built.

3. HOW GOD FIGHTS FOR HIS ANOINTED

God does not remain silent when His anointed ones are attacked. He arises on their behalf.

a) God Declares War Against Their Enemies (Exodus 14:14)

When opposition arises, God takes over the battle and fights for His people.

b) He Turns Evil Plans Against the Wicked (Proverbs 26:27)

Those who dig pits for God's anointed will fall into them. The wicked’s own schemes backfire.

c) He Covers His Anointed with a Hedge of Protection (Zechariah 2:5)

God surrounds His chosen ones with divine protection that no enemy can penetrate.

d) He Causes Their Enemies to Scatter (Deuteronomy 28:7)

When the anointed are attacked, God causes their enemies to flee in seven directions.

e) Biblical Example: Daniel in the Lions' Den (Daniel 6:16-24)

The men who falsely accused Daniel were devoured by the same lions that could not harm Daniel, proving that God protects His anointed.

4. LIVING UNDER THE ANOINTING’S COVERING

To experience the full benefits of God’s anointing, believers must walk in obedience and faith.

a) Walking in Righteousness (Psalm 92:10)

The anointing flourishes in a life of holiness. A sinful life hinders divine protection.

b) Staying in the Secret Place of the Most High (Psalm 91:1-2)

Remaining in God’s presence secures His covering against every attack.

c) Having an Unshakable Faith (Romans 8:31)

When we trust that God is for us, no enemy can prevail against us.

d) Praying Without Ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

A life of continuous prayer ensures that the anointing remains fresh and active.

e) Biblical Example: Jesus in the Wilderness (Luke 4:1-14)

Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, overcame Satan’s temptations and returned in the power of the Spirit. Walking under the anointing requires spiritual discipline.

5. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE ANOINTED RISES?

The presence of God's anointed can shift situations, break yokes, and bring divine breakthroughs.

a) Yokes Are Broken (Isaiah 10:27)

The anointing carries power to destroy burdens and release people from bondage.

b) Territories Are Claimed for God (Joshua 1:3)

Wherever the anointed step, they take dominion for God's kingdom.

c) Revival and Miracles Take Place (Acts 2:41-43)

When anointed men and women operate in the Spirit, miracles and conversions follow.

d) The Kingdom of Darkness Is Shaken (Luke 10:17)

Demons flee at the presence of God’s anointed because of the authority they carry.

e) Biblical Example: Paul and Silas in Prison (Acts 16:25-26)

As they worshipped, the prison doors opened, and chains fell off, demonstrating the power of the anointing.

CONCLUSION:

The anointing of God is a divine mark of His presence, power, and protection over His people. Every believer carries this anointing, and it is a dangerous thing for anyone to oppose them. God fights for His anointed and ensures that no weapon formed against them prospers.

As you walk under this anointing, stay in obedience to God, keep your faith strong, and trust in His divine covering. When the enemy rises against you, remember that you are untouchable because God has declared: “Touch not My anointed.”
