Title: THE GOD OF THE SHUNEMITE: LORD GIVE ME MY BABY
By Rev. Samuel Arimoro
Main Text: 2 Kings 4:8-17
Supporting Texts: 1 Samuel 1:9-20; Luke 1:26-38
INTRODUCTION:
The story of the Shunemite woman is a beautiful testimony of God's miraculous power to grant children to those who trust in Him, even in seemingly impossible situations. The Shunemite woman, though barren, had a deep desire for a child. Her faith in God's ability to provide a miracle led to a prophetic declaration from the man of God, Elisha, that she would bear a son. She received that word with faith, and God made it a reality. The God who visited the Shunemite woman is the same God who will visit you today and grant you the miracle of motherhood. This is your season of divine visitation.
1. THE GOD WHO SEES YOUR DESIRE
a) God Sees the Deep Desires of Your Heart:
Just as the Shunemite woman longed for a child, God sees the deepest desires of your heart. He knows your longing and will not ignore your cry (Psalm 37:4).
b) God Will Respond to Your Faithful Service:
The Shunemite woman served the prophet with a generous heart, and God responded by meeting her need. God rewards those who serve Him in faith and sincerity (Matthew 10:42).
c) God Is Aware of Your Pain:
Although the Shunemite woman hid her grief, God knew her pain. He knows the struggles you face, and He is ready to turn your sorrow into joy (Psalm 56:8).
d) God's Timing Is Perfect:
Though the Shunemite woman had longed for a child, it was in God's perfect timing that He granted her request. Trust God's timing, for He will never be late (Ecclesiastes 3:11).
Biblical Example: Hannah prayed earnestly for a child, and God heard her prayer and granted her a son, Samuel (1 Samuel 1:9-20).
2. THE GOD WHO SPEAKS THROUGH HIS PROPHETS
a) God's Word Brings Life:
Elisha spoke a word over the Shunemite woman’s life, declaring that she would bear a son. The prophetic word spoken by God’s servant has the power to bring life to your dreams (Romans 4:17).
b) A Prophetic Declaration Brings Forth Miracles:
The Shunemite woman's miracle came through a prophetic declaration. When God’s servant speaks, listen, for it carries the power of life and fulfillment (Amos 3:7).
c) Prophetic Words Are Seeds for the Future:
The prophetic word spoken to the Shunemite woman was a seed that grew into the fulfillment of her desire. Similarly, when you receive a prophetic word, nurture it with faith and prayer (1 Timothy 1:18).
d) Believe in the Power of God's Word:
The Shunemite woman believed the prophetic word and acted in faith. When you believe God’s word, it activates the miracle in your life (Luke 1:45).
Biblical Example: Elizabeth received a prophetic word about bearing John the Baptist, and she believed, resulting in the fulfillment of God's promise (Luke 1:13-15).
3. THE GOD WHO REPLACES SHAME WITH JOY
a) God Will End Your Season of Barrenness:
The Shunemite woman had long been without children, but God replaced her barrenness with fruitfulness. God will end your season of unfulfilled desires and bring forth fruit in your life (Isaiah 54:1).
b) God Will Turn Your Sorrow into Rejoicing:
The birth of the Shunemite woman's son was a turning point in her life. What once caused her pain became a source of joy. God will transform your sorrow into dancing (Psalm 30:11).
c) The Promise of a Child Is a Sign of Restoration:
The son given to the Shunemite woman was not just a child but a symbol of God’s restoration. He will restore what was lost and bring new life into your circumstances (Joel 2:25).
d) Your Testimony Will Bring Glory to God:
Just as the Shunemite woman's testimony brought glory to God, your testimony will be a shining example of His faithfulness and power (John 9:3).
Biblical Example: Sarah’s laughter of joy after the birth of Isaac was a testimony of God's faithfulness (Genesis 21:6).
4. THE GOD WHO MAKES ALL THINGS POSSIBLE
a) God Makes the Impossible Possible:
The Shunemite woman’s story shows that God can do what seems impossible. When you trust in God, He can turn the impossible into a reality in your life (Luke 1:37).
b) God Works Miracles in the Midst of Natural Limitations:
The Shunemite woman was well beyond childbearing age, yet God made it possible for her to conceive. Trust God’s ability to work miracles even when the natural circumstances seem against you (Romans 4:20-21).
c) God Will Exceed Your Expectations:
The Shunemite woman did not expect to have a child, but God exceeded her expectations by fulfilling her desire in a miraculous way. Expect God to exceed your wildest dreams (Ephesians 3:20).
d) Faith Opens the Door to the Miraculous:
The Shunemite woman’s faith in God’s promise unlocked the door for her miracle. When you walk in faith, you open the door for God to move mightily in your life (Matthew 17:20).
Biblical Example: Elizabeth and Zechariah, despite their old age, were blessed with John the Baptist as a result of their faith (Luke 1:24-25).
5. THE GOD WHO WILL HONOR YOUR FAITH
a) God Responds to Faithful Prayers:
The Shunemite woman’s quiet faith and trust in God’s ability to give her a son led to the fulfillment of her desires. God honors those who seek Him in faith (Matthew 21:22).
b) God Is Faithful to His Promises:
When God speaks a promise, He is faithful to fulfill it. The Shunemite woman received her promise because God was faithful to His word (1 Thessalonians 5:24).
c) Faith in God's Power Brings Forth Miracles:
The Shunemite woman did not doubt the power of God to fulfill His word. She believed, and God’s power brought her miracle to pass (Hebrews 11:11).
d) God Honors the Prayer of a Woman in Faith:
The story of the Shunemite woman teaches that God honors the prayers and faith of women who seek His will. You can trust that God hears and answers your prayers (Luke 18:7-8).
Biblical Example: Hannah's faith and prayer led to the birth of Samuel, a man who changed the course of Israel’s history (1 Samuel 1:9-20).
CONCLUSION:
The God of the Shunemite is still at work today, and He is ready to grant your heart’s desire. Just as He blessed the Shunemite woman with a child, He will visit you and perform a miracle in your life. Trust in God’s ability to do the impossible, and watch Him turn your barrenness into fruitfulness. This is your season of divine visitation—Lord, give me my baby!
