POWER AGAINST PREMATURE DEATH

SERMON: POWER AGAINST PREMATURE DEATH

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: Psalm 91:16
Supporting Texts: Isaiah 65:20; Exodus 23:26; John 10:10

INTRODUCTION:

Premature death is a weapon of the enemy, aimed at cutting short destinies, dreams, and God's purposes for His people. The Bible, however, assures us that long life is God's promise, and we have the power to enforce that promise through prayer, faith, and righteous living. This sermon will explore the spiritual tools available to defeat the spirit of premature death.

1. UNDERSTANDING PREMATURE DEATH

a) What is Premature Death?
Premature death refers to a life cut short before fulfilling God's purpose. It happens through accidents, sickness, demonic attacks, or unforeseen circumstances. God’s will is for us to live full and prosperous lives.

b) God’s Plan for Longevity:
God's desire is for His children to live long. In Psalm 91:16, He promises "With long life I will satisfy him." This is God's plan for everyone who abides in Him.

c) Premature Death as an Enemy:
Premature death is one of Satan’s strategies to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). But Christ came to give us life abundantly.

Biblical Example: King Hezekiah (Isaiah 38:1-5) was told he would die, but through prayer, he extended his life by 15 years.

2. SPIRITUAL WEAPONS AGAINST PREMATURE DEATH

a) The Power of Prayer:
Prayer can change death sentences. Just as King Hezekiah prayed fervently and God added years to his life (Isaiah 38), we too can cancel premature death through prayer.

b) The Blood of Jesus:
Revelation 12:11 reminds us that we overcome by the blood of the Lamb. The blood of Jesus is a shield against the power of death.

c) The Word of God as a Weapon:
Declare scriptures like Psalm 118:17, "I shall not die, but live," as a weapon against premature death. The Word is our authority.

d) Living a Righteous Life:
Proverbs 10:27 says, "The fear of the LORD prolongs days, but the years of the wicked shall be shortened." Righteous living ensures God’s covering.

e) Anointing for Protection:
Seek the anointing that preserves from evil. David said in Psalm 23:5, “You anoint my head with oil,” implying protection against every attack.

3. STRATEGIES TO BREAK THE COVENANT OF DEATH

a) Identifying Generational Curses:
Some premature deaths occur because of generational covenants. Break these covenants through dedicated prayer and fasting.

b) Canceling Negative Declarations:
Words carry power. Cancel any negative word spoken over your life that could open the door to premature death (Proverbs 18:21).

c) Establishing a Covenant of Life:
Enter into a covenant of life with God, declaring that nothing can cut your life short except by God's timing.

d) Building a Hedge of Protection through Praise:
Praise breaks the yoke of death. Jehoshaphat used praise to overcome his enemies (2 Chronicles 20:21-22).

e) Faith in God’s Promise:
Believe that God is a God of life, and that no power can take your life prematurely (Hebrews 11:6).

4. GOD’S PROMISE OF LONG LIFE AND FULFILLMENT

a) God’s Assurance of Long Life:
Exodus 23:26 declares, "I will fulfill the number of your days." Trust that God has set the length of your days, and you will not be cut short.

b) The Covenant of Peace:
Isaiah 65:20 assures us that there shall be no infant of days, nor an old man who has not fulfilled his days. The peace of God guarantees life and fulfillment.

c) Faith in the Resurrection Power of Christ:
Jesus conquered death so that we can live. Romans 8:11 says the Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead will also give life to our mortal bodies.

Biblical Example: Lazarus was raised from death after being dead for four days, showing that Jesus has authority over death (John 11:1-44).

CONCLUSION:

God has not called us to premature death but to long life and fulfillment of destiny. By using spiritual weapons such as prayer, faith, and the Word of God, we can break the yoke of premature death and experience the fullness of life that God has promised. Take hold of God’s promise today, stand firm in faith, and declare victory over every threat of death.
