INTRODUCTION

The Apostle Paul arrived in Corinth with a clear understanding of the message he had been called to proclaim. Corinth was a city influenced by philosophy, intellectual achievement, eloquence, and human wisdom, yet Paul deliberately refused to make human wisdom the centre of his ministry. He declared, "I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified." His message had one unmistakable centre: Jesus Christ and His sacrifice on the cross.

Christ crucified is not merely one subject among many in Christianity; it is the heart of the Gospel. The cross reveals the seriousness of sin, the greatness of God's love, the holiness of God, and the immeasurable grace through which sinners can be reconciled to Him. What appeared to be weakness and defeat became God's appointed means of redemption and victory.

The Church must never lose sight of the cross. In a generation attracted to human achievement, popularity, material success, and impressive presentation, the message of Christ crucified must remain central. When Christ and His cross are at the centre, the believer has a secure foundation for salvation, holiness, service, endurance, and eternal hope.

1. CHRIST CRUCIFIED REVEALS GOD'S LOVE

The cross is the supreme demonstration of God's love for humanity. Jesus willingly gave Himself so that sinners could receive forgiveness and reconciliation with God.

a) Christ Died For Sinners (Romans 5:8)
God demonstrated His love by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. The cross shows that God's love reaches people even in their fallen condition.

b) Christ Bore Our Sins (1 Peter 2:24)
Jesus carried our sins in His body on the cross so that we might die to sin and live unto righteousness.

c) Christ Became Our Substitute (Isaiah 53:5-6)
The prophecy of Isaiah points to Christ bearing the punishment that humanity deserved, making peace and healing possible through His sacrifice.

d) Christ Reconciles Us To God (2 Corinthians 5:18-19)
Through Christ's sacrifice, the barrier created by sin is removed and those who believe can be restored to fellowship with God.

Biblical Example: The repentant thief recognised who Jesus was and placed his faith in Him even while they were both on the cross, receiving Christ's promise of eternal life (Luke 23:39-43).

2. CHRIST CRUCIFIED IS THE POWER OF SALVATION

The cross is God's appointed means of dealing with sin and bringing salvation to those who believe. It is not human wisdom but divine power.

a) The Cross Deals With Sin (Romans 6:6-7)
Christ's death provides freedom from the dominion of sin, calling believers to live under the rule of God's grace.

b) The Cross Brings Forgiveness (Ephesians 1:7)
Through Christ's blood, believers receive redemption and the forgiveness of sins according to God's abundant grace.

c) The Cross Defeats The Powers Of Darkness (Colossians 2:14-15)
Through the cross, Christ triumphed over spiritual powers and demonstrated His complete victory.

d) The Cross Opens The Way To Eternal Life (John 3:14-16)
Those who look to Christ in faith receive salvation and the promise of eternal life.

Biblical Example: When the Philippian jailer asked what he must do to be saved, Paul and Silas directed him to believe in the Lord Jesus, and the Gospel transformed his household (Acts 16:25-34).

3. CHRIST CRUCIFIED MUST REMAIN THE CENTRE OF PREACHING

Paul's determination challenges every generation of ministers and believers to keep Jesus at the centre of the Gospel. The Church must never replace Christ with secondary matters.

a) Preach Christ Above Human Wisdom (1 Corinthians 2:1-2)
Paul did not depend on impressive speech or human philosophy but made Christ crucified the centre of his proclamation.

b) Proclaim The Gospel Boldly (Romans 1:16)
The Gospel is God's power unto salvation, and believers should never be ashamed to proclaim it.

c) Depend On The Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:4-5)
Effective ministry must rest on God's power rather than human eloquence or persuasive ability.

d) Make Christ Known To All (Matthew 28:19-20)
The Church is commissioned to make disciples and teach people to follow everything Christ commanded.

Biblical Example: Philip preached Jesus to the Ethiopian official, explaining the Scriptures and leading him to faith in Christ (Acts 8:30-39).

4. CHRIST CRUCIFIED CALLS US TO A CRUCIFIED LIFE

The cross is not only the message we believe; it is also the pattern by which we are called to live. Following Christ requires surrender, self-denial, and obedience.

a) Deny Yourself Daily (Luke 9:23)
Jesus calls His followers to deny themselves, take up their cross daily, and follow Him faithfully.

b) Die To The Old Life (Galatians 2:20)
The believer's old identity no longer controls the direction of life because Christ now lives in the believer.

c) Reject Worldly Boasting (Galatians 6:14)
Our confidence should not be rooted in worldly achievements but in the finished work of Christ.

d) Follow Christ In Obedience (Philippians 2:5-8)
Jesus' humility and obedience provide the model for believers who desire to live under the authority of God.

Biblical Example: Paul demonstrated a life centred on Christ, willingly enduring hardship and counting everything else as loss compared with knowing Jesus (Philippians 3:7-10).

CONCLUSION

Christ crucified is the heart of the Gospel and the foundation of our faith. At the cross, God's love was demonstrated, sin was dealt with, redemption was accomplished, and victory was secured. Paul therefore refused to allow human wisdom, eloquence, or personal achievement to take the place of the crucified Christ.

Let Christ and His cross remain at the centre of your faith, preaching, service, and daily life. Do not be ashamed of the cross; embrace its message, live under its transforming power, and proclaim it faithfully. As you keep Christ crucified at the centre, your life will continually reflect His grace, holiness, love, and victory.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Father, thank You for the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and the salvation accomplished through His cross, in Jesus name.

2. Lord, help me to keep Christ crucified at the centre of my faith, my service, and my daily life, in Jesus name.

3. Father, let the power of the cross continually deliver me from the dominion and influence of sin, in Jesus name.

4. Lord, help me to understand more deeply the love and grace revealed through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, in Jesus name.

5. Father, give me grace to deny myself daily and follow Christ faithfully, in Jesus name.

6. Lord, remove every form of worldly confidence and self-exaltation from my heart, in Jesus name.

7. Father, empower me to proclaim Christ crucified with boldness, wisdom, and the power of the Holy Spirit, in Jesus name.

8. Lord, let the victory of Christ's cross be evident in every area of my Christian life, in Jesus name.

9. Father, use my testimony and ministry to bring many people to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, in Jesus name.

10. Lord, keep me faithful to Christ crucified until the end of my journey and let my life continually glorify Your name, in Jesus name.

PROPHETIC DECLARATIONS

1. You shall continually experience the saving, transforming, and victorious power of Christ crucified in every area of your life.

2. The grace of God shall enable you to overcome every influence of sin and walk increasingly in righteousness and holiness.

3. You shall never be ashamed of Jesus Christ or His cross, but shall boldly identify with Him wherever God sends you.

4. Every confidence in human wisdom, achievement, or ability that competes with Christ shall lose its influence over your heart.

5. You shall receive fresh grace to deny yourself daily, take up your cross, and follow Jesus faithfully.

6. The Holy Spirit shall empower your words, preaching, teaching, and witness so that Christ shall be glorified through your ministry.

7. The victory secured through the cross shall become increasingly evident in your spiritual life, relationships, service, and testimony.

8. The Lord shall use your life as a living testimony of the redeeming power of Jesus Christ and His finished work.

9. Many people shall encounter the saving grace of Christ through your witness, and your labour in the Gospel shall produce lasting fruit.

10. You shall remain firmly established in Christ crucified, faithfully finish your assignment, and receive the eternal reward prepared for those who love and serve Him.
