YOUR ROOT AND YOUR DESTINY

YOUR ROOT AND YOUR DESTINY

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: Job 14:7-9

Key Verse: “For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease. Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground; yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.” – Job 14:7-9
Supporting Texts: Proverbs 12:3, Colossians 2:7, Jeremiah 17:7-8, Romans 11:16

Description: The root of a person’s life determines the strength, stability, and fulfilment of their destiny, and only when we are rooted in Christ can our destiny flourish.

INTRODUCTION:
Every destiny has a root. Just as a tree draws life from its roots, every man draws destiny fulfilment from the source that sustains him. A tree may have tall branches and green leaves, but if the root is corrupt, it will eventually wither. Likewise, many lives look successful outwardly but are failing because their roots are in the wrong source.

The Scriptures emphasise the importance of roots in destiny. Proverbs 12:3 says, “The root of the righteous shall not be moved.” This shows us that when a believer is properly rooted in Christ, storms cannot destroy their destiny. On the other hand, those whose roots are in evil foundations or worldly systems will eventually see their destinies collapse.

Beloved, if you must fulfil your God-ordained destiny, you must examine your root. Are you rooted in Christ, or are you tied to unprofitable foundations? The strength of your destiny depends on the health of your root.

1. THE ROOT DETERMINES THE DESTINY
Your root is the hidden foundation that sustains your life.

a) The source of strength (Jeremiah 17:7-8): A tree with deep roots survives drought; likewise, believers rooted in God flourish in hard times.

b) The source of stability (Proverbs 12:3): The righteous remain unshaken because their root is in God.

c) The source of fruitfulness (Psalm 1:3): A man rooted in God’s Word brings forth fruit in season.

d) The source of identity (Romans 11:16): If the root is holy, the branches are also holy.

Biblical Example: Joseph (Genesis 39:2-5). Though sold into slavery, his root in God preserved his destiny.

2. TYPES OF ROOTS THAT INFLUENCE DESTINY
Not all roots bring blessings; some roots corrupt destiny.

a) Godly roots (Colossians 2:7): Being rooted in Christ produces strength, holiness, and lasting impact.

b) Evil ancestral roots (Lamentations 5:7): Many suffer under curses from their forefathers’ sins.

c) Carnal roots (Galatians 5:19-21): Those rooted in fleshly desires end up in destruction.

d) Mixed roots (James 1:8): A double-minded root produces instability and unfulfilled destiny.

Biblical Example: Timothy (2 Timothy 1:5). His godly roots in Lois and Eunice shaped his destiny.

3. DANGERS OF WRONG ROOTS TO DESTINY
When roots are wrong, destinies are corrupted and delayed.

a) Destiny diversion (Judges 6:25-26): Evil family altars diverted Israel until Gideon confronted them.

b) Destiny truncation (Matthew 13:6): Shallow roots wither under persecution and trials.

c) Destiny pollution (Hebrews 12:15): A root of bitterness defiles many and hinders destiny fulfilment.

d) Destiny destruction (Matthew 15:13): Every plant not planted by God shall be uprooted.

Biblical Example: Gehazi (2 Kings 5:25-27). Wrong roots of greed destroyed his destiny.

4. HOW TO ESTABLISH YOUR ROOT IN CHRIST
Destiny can only flourish when firmly rooted in God.

a) Deep study of the Word (Psalm 119:105): God’s Word nourishes and strengthens your roots.

b) Consistent prayer life (Colossians 4:2): Prayer waters your spiritual root to keep you alive.

c) Obedience and holiness (John 15:5-6): Only abiding in Christ guarantees lasting fruitfulness.

d) Fellowship with godly believers (Psalm 92:13): Staying in the house of God strengthens your root.

Biblical Example: Daniel (Daniel 1:8, 6:10). His strong root in devotion to God preserved his destiny in Babylon.

5. REPLANTING DESTINIES THROUGH CHRIST
No matter how polluted a root may be, God has made provision for restoration.

a) Deliverance from evil roots (Jeremiah 1:10): God pulls down and uproots unprofitable roots.

b) Cleansing by the blood (Revelation 12:11): The blood of Jesus disconnects us from ancestral covenants.

c) New identity in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17): In Christ, we are replanted as new creations.

d) Establishment in righteousness (Colossians 2:7): God plants us to be deeply rooted and built up in Him.

Biblical Example: Apostle Paul (Acts 9:1-20). His polluted root of persecution was uprooted, and he was replanted as a great apostle.

CONCLUSION:
Destiny is not determined by appearance but by roots. If the roots are wrong, the destiny will fail, but if the roots are right, the destiny will flourish. A tree may be cut down, but if the root remains alive, there is hope for restoration (Job 14:7–9).

Beloved, check your root today. If you are not rooted in Christ, surrender to Him. If your root is polluted, let the Word, the Blood, and the Fire of God uproot it. Destiny fulfilment is guaranteed only when you are firmly planted in Christ Jesus.
