Description: God’s favour is the divine distinguishing mark that sets His children apart for blessings, breakthroughs, and honour.
INTRODUCTION:
Favour is one of the greatest assets a believer can have in life. It is not something you can purchase with money, nor can it be acquired by human effort. Divine favour is a gift from God, and when it rests upon a man or woman, it causes doors to open, protocols to be broken, and destinies to be accelerated.
To be set apart for favour means that God singles you out for blessings that others cannot explain. While others may struggle endlessly, divine favour positions you to receive results far beyond your qualifications, background, or abilities. It is favour that distinguishes Joseph in Egypt, Esther in Persia, and Daniel in Babylon.
As children of God, we are not called to live by labour alone but also by favour. Favour establishes us in places where effort cannot reach, it brings us before kings, and it turns shame into glory. In this study, we will see how God sets His people apart for favour and how we can position ourselves to walk in it continually.
1. FAVOUR IS A DIVINE GIFT FROM GOD
Favour is not earned by works but given by God’s mercy and grace. It is the outworking of His love and covenant promises.
a) Favour is God’s choice – (Romans 9:15) God shows mercy and favour to whomever He wills, beyond human reasoning or effort.
b) Favour distinguishes you from the crowd – (Genesis 6:8) Noah found favour with God and was preserved while the world was destroyed.
c) Favour is a shield of protection – (Psalm 5:12) God surrounds His children with favour, keeping them from harm and disgrace.
d) Favour produces blessings beyond labour – (Ecclesiastes 9:11) Time and chance (divine favour) happen to all, lifting some above their struggles.
Biblical Example: Joseph in Potiphar’s house (Genesis 39:21) – Though sold as a slave, the favour of God lifted him until he became a ruler in Egypt.
2. FAVOUR SETS YOU APART FOR DIVINE PROMOTION
Favour causes God to single you out for elevation, even when you are least expected or considered unqualified.
a) Favour brings you before kings – (Proverbs 22:29) Diligence is good, but favour establishes your placement before the high and mighty.
b) Favour breaks protocols – (Esther 2:17) Esther, a foreigner, became queen by divine favour, bypassing natural limitations.
c) Favour gives you recognition – (Daniel 1:9) Daniel obtained favour and tender love from the prince of the eunuchs, paving the way for destiny fulfilment.
d) Favour accelerates destiny – (1 Samuel 16:22) David was loved by Saul because God’s favour was upon him, preparing him for kingship.
Biblical Example: Esther became queen not by beauty alone but because divine favour located her before the king.
3. FAVOUR BRINGS SUPERNATURAL TURNAROUND
When divine favour rests upon you, God changes your story and reverses the negative situations in your life.
a) Favour turns sorrow into joy – (Psalm 30:5) Weeping may endure for the night, but favour ensures joy in the morning.
b) Favour restores wasted years – (Joel 2:25-26) God’s favour restores what was lost and fills His people with abundance.
c) Favour silences opposition – (Exodus 12:36) The Israelites found favour with the Egyptians and left with riches.
d) Favour breaks limitations – (Luke 1:30) Mary, a virgin, conceived by the Holy Ghost because of divine favour.
Biblical Example: Ruth the Moabite (Ruth 2:10) – She found favour before Boaz, and God changed her life from widowhood to becoming part of the lineage of Christ.
4. HOW TO POSITION YOURSELF FOR FAVOUR
While favour is God’s gift, believers must also align themselves to walk in it through obedience and faithfulness.
a) Live righteously – (Psalm 84:11) God withholds no good thing from those who walk uprightly.
b) Be faithful in little – (Luke 16:10) Faithfulness attracts favour from both God and man.
c) Walk in obedience – (Deuteronomy 28:1) Obedience to God’s voice positions us for uncommon favour.
d) Be prayerful and expectant – (Psalm 102:13) Favour comes when God arises in His set time to visit His people.
Biblical Example: Cornelius (Acts 10:1-4) – Through prayer and almsgiving, he attracted God’s favour, leading to his household’s salvation.
CONCLUSION:
To be set apart for favour is to enjoy divine exemption from struggle and to experience God’s hand lifting you where others fall. It is God’s favour that gives you recognition, promotion, and breakthrough beyond your ability. Labour may produce some results, but favour establishes you in greatness.
Therefore, seek not only to work hard but to walk in the righteousness, obedience, and faithfulness that attract divine favour. When God sets you apart for favour, no man, system, or devil can stop your rising.
