Description: God, as the God of exemption, has the power to shield His people from the calamities, judgments, and plagues that consume others, marking them out as His covenant children.
INTRODUCTION:
Exemption is one of the mysteries of the kingdom that distinguishes the people of God from the people of the world. To exempt means to set apart, to shield, to protect, and to deliver from what affects others. When the hand of destruction passes through the land, those marked by God’s covenant of exemption are divinely secured. God does not only save; He exempts. He does not only bless; He preserves. He makes a difference between those who serve Him and those who do not.
Throughout Scripture, we see God repeatedly prove Himself as the God of exemption. When plagues fell upon Egypt, Goshen was spared. When death visited homes, the blood on the doorposts exempted the Israelites. When judgment looms over the earth, the seal of God upon His people guarantees safety. This covenant of exemption is not by chance; it is rooted in God’s faithfulness to His Word and His covenant promises to His children.
In our world today, filled with uncertainties, crises, disasters, and judgments, the reality of divine exemption remains relevant. It is not that storms will not come, but God ensures that when others are swallowed by them, His covenant children stand strong, untouched, and preserved. This truth should stir our faith, strengthen our confidence, and move us to align ourselves under the covering of the Almighty.
1. GOD MAKES A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HIS PEOPLE AND THE WORLD
God does not deal with everyone the same way; He distinguishes His covenant children.
a) The Covenant of Distinction (Malachi 3:17-18)
God makes a clear difference between those who serve Him and those who do not, marking His children for preservation.
b) The Land of Goshen Experience (Exodus 8:22)
While Egypt was plagued, Goshen was preserved, showing God’s ability to separate His people from calamity.
c) The Seal of Ownership (2 Timothy 2:19)
God knows those who are His, and His seal upon them becomes their exemption mark.
d) The Blood of the Covenant (Exodus 12:13)
The blood on the doorposts exempted the Israelites from the angel of death, pointing to the blood of Jesus as our covering today.
Biblical Example: Israel was exempted from the ten plagues of Egypt while Pharaoh’s land was ravaged (Exodus 7-12).
2. GOD EXEMPTS HIS PEOPLE FROM PLAGUES AND CALAMITIES
The troubles of life may overwhelm the world, but covenant people are preserved.
a) Exemption from Destruction (Psalm 91:7)
A thousand may fall at your side and ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.
b) Exemption from Disasters (Isaiah 43:2)
When you pass through the waters, God promises you will not be drowned, nor will the fire consume you.
c) Exemption from Generational Curses (Galatians 3:13)
Through Christ, we are redeemed from the curse of the law and exempted from ancestral patterns of destruction.
d) Exemption from Sudden Judgments (Genesis 19:22)
Lot was delivered from the fire of Sodom because of God’s covenant mercy.
Biblical Example: Noah and his family were exempted from the flood that wiped out the whole earth (Genesis 7:23).
3. THE MARK OF EXEMPTION THROUGH CHRIST
Through Jesus Christ, believers receive the mark that separates them from the world.
a) The Mark of the Blood (Hebrews 12:24)
The blood of Jesus speaks better things than the blood of Abel, granting us divine exemption.
b) The Mark of the Spirit (Ephesians 1:13)
Believers are sealed with the Holy Spirit, ensuring protection and ownership by God.
c) The Mark of Holiness (Galatians 6:17)
Those who walk in Christ carry the mark of divine exemption that repels evil.
d) The Mark of Covenant Obedience (Deuteronomy 28:1-2)
Walking in obedience to God’s Word secures the blessings of exemption.
Biblical Example: Daniel was preserved in the lions’ den because he bore the mark of God upon him (Daniel 6:22).
4. HOW TO WALK IN THE REALITY OF DIVINE EXEMPTION
Exemption is available to all covenant children, but it must be consciously activated.
a) Live under covenant obedience (Isaiah 1:19)
Willing obedience to God’s Word positions us for divine covering.
b) Walk in faith and confidence (Hebrews 11:6)
Faith is the trigger that makes exemption a living reality in the life of the believer.
c) Invoke the blood of Jesus daily (Revelation 12:11)
The blood of the Lamb remains our guarantee for exemption in spiritual battles.
d) Stay under the shadow of God’s presence (Psalm 91:1)
Dwelling in the secret place of the Most High ensures continuous covering and safety.
Biblical Example: Job, despite satanic attacks, was divinely preserved because God had placed a hedge of protection around him (Job 1:10).
CONCLUSION:
The God of exemption is alive and still working today. What destroys others will not destroy you because you are a covenant child. God marks His own, separates them, and exempts them from the plagues of the world. This reality should strengthen our confidence and make us walk boldly in the covenant.
Let us therefore live under the covering of the Almighty, walk in obedience to His Word, and stand firm in faith, knowing that in the days of trouble, He will make a clear difference between us and the world. You are marked for exemption, and your life will continually reflect this covenant reality.
