INTRODUCTION:
Family altars are spiritual platforms or foundations established by ancestors to connect with gods, spirits, or deities. These altars often result in generational patterns of bondage, sickness, poverty, untimely death, or stagnation. As Christians, we must confront and destroy these altars to walk in the freedom Christ has given us. The story of Gideon demonstrates how to identify and break family altars to establish God's dominion.

1. UNDERSTANDING FAMILY ALTARS

a) Definition of Family Altars
Family altars are spiritual strongholds erected in families for ancestral worship, covenants, or rituals (Exodus 20:5).

b) Signs of Family Altars
Patterns of repeated failure, curses, or tragedies within a family indicate the influence of altars.

c) Spiritual Roots of Family Altars
These altars are sustained by blood covenants, idolatry, or ungodly practices of past generations.

d) Consequences of Family Altars
They perpetuate curses, hinder destinies, and limit spiritual growth (Lamentations 5:7).

e) Biblical Example: Gideon's family altar to Baal caused oppression until it was destroyed (Judges 6:25).

2. THE DANGER OF LEAVING FAMILY ALTARS INTACT

a) Sustained Generational Bondage
Leaving altars intact keeps families under spiritual bondage (Exodus 34:7).

b) Hindrance to Divine Promises
Family altars block the manifestation of God’s promises (Joshua 7:1).

c) Empowerment of Evil Spirits
Altars provide legal grounds for demonic operations in families (Ephesians 4:27).

d) Delay in Breakthroughs
Family altars cause delays and limitations in fulfilling destinies (Daniel 10:12-13).

e) Biblical Example: Achan's sin hindered Israel’s progress until it was dealt with (Joshua 7:10-12).

3. HOW TO BREAK FAMILY ALTARS

a) Identify the Altars
Seek revelation through prayer and the Word of God to uncover hidden altars (Jeremiah 33:3).

b) Renounce Ancestral Covenants
Verbally reject and renounce every ungodly covenant tied to your family lineage (Isaiah 49:24-25).

c) Engage in Spiritual Warfare
Use the authority of Jesus Christ and prayer to dismantle the spiritual structures of these altars (2 Corinthians 10:4-5).

d) Replace with God’s Altar
Establish a life of worship, prayer, and service to God as a new spiritual foundation (Genesis 12:7).

e) Biblical Example: Gideon built an altar to the Lord after destroying the family altar to Baal (Judges 6:26-27).

4. THE POWER OF CHRIST IN BREAKING ALTARS

a) Christ's Sacrifice Nullifies All Covenants
The blood of Jesus speaks better things than the blood of any sacrifice (Hebrews 12:24).

c) Meditate on God’s Word
The Word of God renews the mind and strengthens faith (Joshua 1:8).

d) Build Godly Family Altars
Establish a culture of worship, prayer, and devotion to God in your family (Deuteronomy 6:6-9).

e) Biblical Example: Abraham maintained altars to God throughout his journey (Genesis 22:9).

Family altars can be a source of bondage or blessings depending on their origin. As believers, we must break every ungodly family altar and establish God’s presence as the foundation of our families. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, the blood of Jesus, and consistent spiritual practices, we can walk in lasting freedom and victory.

2. You are free from every ancestral bondage.

3. The blood of Jesus has nullified every evil covenant in your lineage.

4. Your family is established on the foundation of God’s altar.

5. The power of ancestral altars is broken over your life.

6. The blessings of Abraham will flow through your family.

7. No demonic altar will operate in your household again.

8. Your family will experience divine restoration and favour.

9. The fire of God will consume every ungodly foundation in your lineage.
