Title: THE GOD OF THE FINAL HOUR
By Rev. Samuel Arimoro
Main Text: John 11:17-27
Supporting Texts: Isaiah 41:10, Psalm 46:1, Habakkuk 2:3
INTRODUCTION:
The phrase "God of the final hour" refers to the Lord's ability to show up when all hope seems lost and deliver His people. In John 11, Lazarus had been dead for four days, and it appeared that nothing could be done. Yet, Jesus arrived and performed a miracle that defied human reasoning. This message is a reminder that God's timing is perfect, and His intervention brings solutions that glorify Him.
1. UNDERSTANDING GOD'S TIMING
a) God's Timing is Perfect
God operates outside of human schedules. His delay is not denial (Habakkuk 2:3).
b) He Works in the Eleventh Hour
God often shows up when man has exhausted all options, as seen in Lazarus' resurrection (John 11:17).
c) God's Delays are for Greater Glory
Jesus delayed going to Bethany to reveal His power and glorify God (John 11:4).
d) Trusting in God's Plan
Faith in God's timing brings peace even when answers seem delayed (Isaiah 55:8-9).
e) Biblical Example: Abraham and Sarah waited decades for Isaac, but God fulfilled His promise (Genesis 21:1-2).
2. THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE GOD OF THE FINAL HOUR
a) He is a God of Compassion
Jesus wept at Lazarus’ grave, showing His deep love (John 11:35).
b) He is a God of Power
His word brought Lazarus back to life, proving that nothing is impossible for Him (John 11:43-44).
c) He is a God of Hope
Even when situations seem dead, God can revive them (Ezekiel 37:4-6).
d) He is a God of Restoration
Lazarus' life and family were restored through Jesus' intervention.
e) Biblical Example: At the Red Sea, God made a way for Israel when there seemed to be no way (Exodus 14:21-22).
3. RESPONDING TO GOD IN THE FINAL HOUR
a) Keep Your Faith Alive
Martha believed that even after Lazarus’ death, Jesus could do something (John 11:22).
b) Declare God's Promises
Speak His Word over your situation (Isaiah 41:10).
c) Wait on the Lord
Trusting in God's timing requires patience and faith (Psalm 27:14).
d) Position Yourself for a Miracle
Be ready to act when God speaks, as Mary and Martha did (John 11:39).
e) Biblical Example: The widow of Zarephath obeyed Elijah's instructions and received miraculous provision in a time of lack (1 Kings 17:12-16).
4. THE POWER OF DIVINE INTERVENTION
a) God Turns Impossibilities to Testimonies
Lazarus' resurrection was a testament to God's supreme power (John 11:43-44).
b) God Exceeds Expectations
He not only restored Lazarus but strengthened the faith of those present (John 11:45).
c) God Demonstrates His Sovereignty
The miracle revealed that Jesus is the resurrection and the life (John 11:25).
d) God Brings Glory to Himself
Every final-hour intervention magnifies God's name (Psalm 50:15).
e) Biblical Example: Paul and Silas experienced divine intervention in prison at midnight (Acts 16:25-26).
5. LESSONS FROM THE GOD OF THE FINAL HOUR
a) Trust God's Timing Over Your Understanding
Delay is not defeat when God is involved (Ecclesiastes 3:11).
b) God is Never Too Late
He intervenes at the perfect moment for His glory and your good.
c) Your Faith is Key to Unlocking Miracles
Jesus told Martha, "If you believe, you will see the glory of God" (John 11:40).
d) God’s Power is Unlimited
Even death could not stop Him from bringing Lazarus back to life.
e) Biblical Example: At the wedding in Cana, Jesus turned water into wine when the hosts ran out of wine (John 2:1-11).
