Title: GOD IN THE DAY OF WHAT SHALL I DO (Part 2)

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: 2 Chronicles 20:1-12
Supporting Texts: Psalm 121:1-2, Isaiah 41:10, James 1:5

INTRODUCTION:
There are moments in life when we face overwhelming situations, and we find ourselves asking, "What shall I do?" It is in these moments of uncertainty, fear, and distress that we must turn to God. The Bible gives us clear examples of individuals who faced such crises, and in these times, God intervened and provided direction. In this sermon, we will explore how God responds when we find ourselves at the crossroads of "What shall I do?"

1. THE REALITY OF FACING UNSOLVABLE PROBLEMS

a) Life Presents Challenges Beyond Our Control
We all face times when we are confronted with situations that are too difficult to handle on our own. King Jehoshaphat was faced with an overwhelming enemy force (2 Chronicles 20:1-2).

b) Fear Often Accompanies the Unknown
The feeling of helplessness and fear often arises when we are unsure of what to do, just as Jehoshaphat feared the vast army approaching him (2 Chronicles 20:3).

c) The Need for a Divine Solution
In moments of crisis, human wisdom and strategies may fall short, leading us to recognize our need for divine intervention (Psalm 121:1-2).

d) Asking the Right Question: "What Shall I Do?"
The question of "What shall I do?" is often a turning point that leads us to seek God’s wisdom, as we acknowledge that we are powerless without Him (James 1:5).

e) Biblical Example: Jehoshaphat’s prayer, when faced with a vast army, recognizing that the battle belonged to God (2 Chronicles 20:12).

2. GOD RESPONDS WHEN WE ASK, "WHAT SHALL I DO?"

a) God Calls Us to Trust in His Ability
When we are in a crisis, God's first response is to remind us that He is in control and that we should trust Him (Isaiah 41:10).

b) God's Word Brings Clarity in Times of Confusion
Just as God spoke to Jehoshaphat through a prophet, giving him specific instructions (2 Chronicles 20:14-17), God speaks to us through His Word and His Spirit in times of uncertainty.

c) God Promises to Lead Us Step by Step
In times of indecision, God often provides guidance one step at a time, helping us navigate through the confusion (Psalm 119:105).

d) God's Peace Guards Our Hearts and Minds
As we seek God’s guidance, His peace becomes our assurance, calming our fears and uncertainties (Philippians 4:6-7).

e) Biblical Example: The prophet Jahaziel’s words to Jehoshaphat, assuring him that the battle was the Lord’s and that they needed to stand firm and witness God’s deliverance (2 Chronicles 20:14-17).

3. THE RESPONSE OF FAITH TO "WHAT SHALL I DO?"

a) Turning to God in Prayer and Fasting
Jehoshaphat gathered the people to pray and fast, demonstrating that seeking God is the first response in moments of crisis (2 Chronicles 20:3).

b) Trusting in God's Character and Promises
Faith involves trusting in God’s unchanging character, remembering His past faithfulness, and believing He will act according to His promises (Psalm 46:1-2).

c) Listening for God’s Voice
In the midst of confusion, it is crucial to listen for God’s voice, which will often come as guidance or peace, telling us what steps to take (Isaiah 30:21).

d) Obeying God’s Instructions
When God speaks, faith requires us to act on His instructions, even if they do not make sense in the natural (James 1:22).

e) Biblical Example: Jehoshaphat’s obedience to God’s instructions, leading to the miraculous defeat of the enemy through praise and worship (2 Chronicles 20:21-22).

4. THE POWER OF PRAISE IN THE DAY OF "WHAT SHALL I DO?"

a) Praise Shifts the Focus from the Problem to the Solution
In times of uncertainty, focusing on God’s greatness and power through praise can shift our perspective, aligning our hearts with His will (2 Chronicles 20:21).

b) Praise Brings Divine Presence into the Situation
Praising God invites His presence into our situations, and it is in His presence that we find peace, guidance, and victory (Psalm 22:3).

c) Praise Acts as a Weapon of Warfare
Jehoshaphat’s army praised God before the battle, and the Lord caused their enemies to be confused and defeated (2 Chronicles 20:22).

d) Praise Releases God’s Power to Act on Our Behalf
When we praise God in faith, we are positioning ourselves for divine intervention, allowing God to work in ways we cannot control or understand (Acts 16:25-26).

e) Biblical Example: Paul and Silas in prison, praising God, and experiencing an earthquake that set them free (Acts 16:25-26).

5. LIVING IN THE CONFIDENCE OF GOD’S RESPONSE

a) God’s Response is Always Timely and Effective
Even though we may not understand how, God’s intervention will come in the most perfect and effective way (Romans 8:28).

b) Learning to Wait Patiently for God's Answer
Trusting God’s timing is a key aspect of living in the confidence of His response. We wait expectantly for His action (Psalm 27:14).

c) Rejoicing in God’s Deliverance
Once we experience God’s deliverance, it should lead us to rejoice and testify to His goodness, remembering that He is always faithful (Psalm 34:1-3).

d) Sharing the Testimony with Others
Our testimony of how God answered our cry for help becomes a powerful tool for encouraging others in their faith (Revelation 12:11).

e) Biblical Example: After the victory, Jehoshaphat and the people rejoiced and praised God for His miraculous intervention (2 Chronicles 20:26-30).

CONCLUSION:
The day of "What shall I do?" is a universal experience. We all encounter moments when we feel unsure of how to proceed, overwhelmed by challenges beyond our control. However, it is in these moments that God shows Himself faithful. He hears our cry, gives us direction, and leads us to victory. As we trust in His promises, respond in faith, and praise Him in the midst of our battles, we will experience His intervention in our lives. Whatever you are facing today, remember: God is ready to answer, and His response will always be timely, powerful, and for His glory.
