INTRODUCTION:
The journey of faith is often marked by moments where we are called to forsake our own understanding, plans, and control, and fully trust in God’s ways. Trusting in God is not merely a mental agreement but a lifestyle of surrender, where we choose to relinquish our fears, anxieties, and desires to follow His perfect will. "Forsaking all, I trust Him" is a declaration of total dependence on God, acknowledging that He alone holds the wisdom and power to lead us through life’s uncertainties. In this sermon, we will explore what it truly means to trust God with everything and how doing so leads to divine direction, peace, and purpose.
1. TRUSTING GOD ABOVE OUR UNDERSTANDING
a) The Call to Trust in God’s Wisdom
Proverbs 3:5-6 urges us to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and lean not on our own understanding. Our natural tendency is to rely on our reasoning, but God’s wisdom far exceeds our understanding. Trusting in Him means surrendering our intellect and acknowledging His supremacy in guiding our lives.
b) Acknowledging God in Every Aspect of Life
Trusting God involves recognizing His presence and sovereignty over every area of our lives—our decisions, relationships, finances, and futures. It is not selective trust, but comprehensive trust.
c) Letting Go of Control
Trusting God means releasing the need to control outcomes. The surrender of control can be challenging, but God’s plans for us are always better than what we could imagine.
d) Trusting in God’s Perfect Timing
There are times when God's timing may not align with our expectations. However, trusting Him means believing that His timing is perfect, even when it seems delayed or different from what we desire.
e) Biblical Example: Abraham trusted God’s promise to give him a son, even when he was old, and his wife Sarah was barren. His trust was rewarded, and God fulfilled His promise (Genesis 21:1-2).
2. FOLLOWING GOD’S LEAD WITHOUT FEAR
a) The Risk of Faith
Following God’s lead often means stepping into the unknown, and at times, it feels like a leap of faith. However, trusting God requires boldness and courage, even in the face of uncertainty.
b) The Role of Faith in Trusting God
Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1). To trust God, we must walk by faith, not by sight, even when we don’t have all the answers.
c) The Peace That Comes with Trusting God
When we place our trust in God, we receive His peace that surpasses understanding (Philippians 4:7). In moments of uncertainty, trusting in God brings a sense of calm and assurance.
d) Trusting God Even in the Storms
Trusting God doesn’t mean that we will be exempt from difficulties. In fact, we may face challenges, but when we trust God, we are assured that He will see us through.
e) Biblical Example: Peter stepped out of the boat to walk on water towards Jesus (Matthew 14:28-29). Despite the storm, his trust in Jesus kept him above the waves, but when his faith wavered, he began to sink. Jesus immediately reached out to him, demonstrating that trust in God leads to victory, even in the storms of life.
3. TRUSTING GOD’S PLAN OVER OUR OWN DESIRES
a) Surrendering Our Will to God’s Will
Trusting God means yielding our desires and plans to His greater purpose. It’s an acknowledgment that God knows what is best for us and that His plans are higher than our own (Isaiah 55:8-9).
b) Obeying God’s Commands, Even When It’s Hard
Trusting God often requires obedience, even when His commands seem difficult or counterintuitive. Obedience is a key indicator of genuine trust.
c) Trusting God’s Provision in Every Season
Whether in abundance or scarcity, trusting God means relying on His provision. He is faithful to supply our needs according to His riches in glory (Philippians 4:19).
d) Trusting God with Our Future
Our future is in God’s hands, and trusting Him means resting in the confidence that He will lead us into His perfect plan for our lives.
e) Biblical Example: Joseph trusted God through betrayal, slavery, and imprisonment. Despite his circumstances, he held on to God's promise, and in the end, he was exalted to a place of authority in Egypt (Genesis 45:7-8).
4. THE FRUIT OF TRUSTING GOD FULLY
a) Restored Peace and Joy
When we trust in God with all our heart, we experience peace that transcends our understanding. This peace frees us from anxiety and fear, allowing us to enjoy the fullness of life.
b) Spiritual Growth and Maturity
Trusting God deepens our relationship with Him and causes us to grow spiritually. We begin to rely more on His strength and less on our own.
c) Divine Favor and Blessing
Trusting God invites His favor and blessing into our lives. When we trust Him, He opens doors that no one can shut and brings favor where there was once rejection.
d) Greater Kingdom Impact
As we trust God more, He uses us to impact others. Our testimony of His faithfulness becomes a witness to those around us, drawing them to faith in Him.
e) Biblical Example: King David, despite his failures, trusted God in times of trouble. His trust in God led to his victory over Goliath and the establishment of his reign, and he became a man after God’s own heart (Acts 13:22).
5. THE CALL TO TRUST GOD IN EVERY AREA OF LIFE
a) Trusting God in Our Relationships
Trusting God means surrendering our relationships to Him. Whether in marriage, friendships, or family, we trust that He will guide us and provide wisdom in our interactions.
b) Trusting God in Our Finances
Our financial situations are not out of God's control. Trusting Him with our finances means being faithful in giving and believing that He will provide for our needs.
c) Trusting God with Our Health
God is our healer, and trusting Him with our health means believing in His ability to restore and sustain us.
d) Trusting God with Our Career and Purpose
God has a plan for our lives, and trusting Him means following His direction for our careers, knowing that He will lead us into fulfilling work and purpose.
e) Biblical Example: Daniel trusted God with his career in Babylon. Despite the pressures and dangers, he remained faithful to God, and as a result, God exalted him and gave him favor with the king (Daniel 6:28).
CONCLUSION:
"Forsaking all, I trust Him" is a powerful declaration of surrender, faith, and obedience. Trusting God means placing our entire lives—our decisions, desires, fears, and futures—into His hands. It means choosing to obey His commands, even when it is hard or when we don’t fully understand His ways. As we trust God, He leads us into greater peace, joy, and spiritual growth. Our lives become testimonies of His faithfulness, and we are drawn closer to His heart. Trust Him today, forsaking all else, knowing that He is faithful to fulfill His promises.
