THIS SAME JESUS

SERMON TITLE: THIS SAME JESUS

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: Acts 1:9-11

Supporting Texts: Hebrews 13:8, John 14:1-3, Philippians 2:9-11

INTRODUCTION:
The ascension of Jesus Christ marked a significant moment in history, not only because He was taken up into heaven, but also because of the promise given by the angels to His disciples: “This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.” The assurance that "This same Jesus" will return one day brings hope, comfort, and expectation for believers. He is the unchanging Christ who is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). In this sermon, we will explore the significance of the phrase "This same Jesus" and its impact on our lives.

1. THIS SAME JESUS, THE SAVIOUR OF THE WORLD

a) Jesus came to earth with the mission of saving humanity from sin and death.

b) His sacrificial death on the cross secured our redemption and reconciled us to God.

c) This same Jesus offers salvation to all who believe in Him.

d) His death and resurrection are the foundation of our faith, and He is the only way to the Father (John 14:6).

e) Biblical Example: Jesus' encounter with Zacchaeus (Luke 19:9-10) shows His mission to seek and save the lost.

2. THIS SAME JESUS, THE HEALER AND MIRACLE WORKER

a) During His earthly ministry, Jesus performed numerous miracles, healing the sick, raising the dead, and casting out demons.

b) His power to heal and deliver is still available today.

c) He is not limited by time or distance; He remains the same, and His miracles continue in our lives.

d) Faith in Jesus opens the door for the miraculous to manifest in our situations.

e) Biblical Example: The healing of the woman with the issue of blood (Mark 5:25-34) demonstrates His power to heal and restore.

3. THIS SAME JESUS, OUR INTERCESSOR AND HIGH PRIEST

a) After ascending to heaven, Jesus did not abandon us; He is seated at the right hand of the Father, making intercession for us (Romans 8:34).

b) He understands our weaknesses and advocates on our behalf as our High Priest.

c) This same Jesus is compassionate and knows the struggles we face in life.

d) As our mediator, He bridges the gap between God and humanity.

e) Biblical Example: Jesus prayed for Peter that his faith would not fail (Luke 22:31-32), showing His care and intercession for us.

4. THIS SAME JESUS, THE COMING KING

a) The promise of Jesus' return is one of the greatest hopes for believers.

b) Just as He ascended into heaven, He will return in glory to judge the living and the dead.

c) This same Jesus, who is full of grace and truth, will establish His eternal kingdom.

d) Our lives must reflect this expectation, living in holiness and readiness for His return.

e) Biblical Example: The parable of the ten virgins (Matthew 25:1-13) teaches us the importance of being prepared for His return.

5. THIS SAME JESUS, THE UNCHANGING CHRIST

a) Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8), meaning His nature, power, and promises remain constant.

b) In a world of uncertainty, we can trust that Jesus remains faithful and true to His word.

c) He is unchanging in His love, mercy, and grace toward us.

d) As we face the challenges of life, we can find stability in the fact that Jesus never changes.

e) Biblical Example: When the disciples faced the storm (Mark 4:35-41), Jesus was with them and calmed the sea, reminding us that He is always present and unchanging in our trials.

CONCLUSION:
"This same Jesus" who ascended into heaven will return one day, and this same Jesus is with us even now, interceding for us, healing us, and leading us. He has not changed, and His promises remain true. As we live with the hope of His return, may we walk in faith, trusting in the unchanging nature of our Saviour. Let us hold fast to the truth that the same Jesus who was with the disciples is with us today, and He will fulfill His promises in our lives.
