WOMAN, THOU ART LOOSE

TITLE: WOMAN, THOU ART LOOSED

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: Luke 13:10-17
Supporting Texts: Isaiah 61:1, John 8:36, Galatians 5:1

INTRODUCTION:
This sermon explores Jesus' encounter with a woman who had been crippled for eighteen years. Through her story, we witness the power of Christ to set people free from bondage and limitations. It serves as a reminder of God’s liberating power over every form of physical, emotional, and spiritual bondage.

1. THE CONDITION OF BONDAGE

a) Physical Bondage
The woman in Luke 13:11 was crippled by a spirit and bent over for 18 years, unable to stand straight. This represents the long-term sufferings and struggles that people face.

b) Spiritual Bondage
This woman’s condition was caused by a spirit. Spiritual bondages can manifest in different forms—oppression, addiction, or fear.

c) Emotional Bondage
Her condition could have caused shame, isolation, and despair, common feelings when people face prolonged challenges.

d) Generational Bondage
Some bondages, like curses or destructive patterns, pass down through generations. Jesus came to break these chains.

Biblical Example: The Israelites in Egypt (Exodus 1:13-14). They were in bondage for over 400 years until God sent a deliverer in Moses.

2. THE POWER OF JESUS' WORD

a) The Word of Authority
Jesus declared, "Woman, thou art loosed" (Luke 13:12). His words carry power to break every chain.

b) Instant Deliverance
The woman was immediately healed, showing that the word of Jesus can instantly turn around any situation.

c) Faith Activation
Jesus called her forward, a step of faith. Faith is essential for receiving deliverance and healing.

d) Divine Timing
Though she had been bound for 18 years, the day of her freedom came. God’s timing is perfect for deliverance.

Biblical Example: Lazarus (John 11:43). Jesus spoke to the grave and called Lazarus back to life, showing the authority of His word.

3. BREAKING THE CHAINS OF RELIGION AND TRADITION

a) The Religious Leaders’ Objection
The synagogue ruler was indignant because Jesus healed on the Sabbath. Religious traditions can sometimes hinder people from experiencing freedom.

b) Jesus Confronts Hypocrisy
Jesus rebuked the religious leaders for caring more about rules than compassion. We must not let tradition bind us from God’s mercy.

c) Freedom in Christ
Jesus shows that He came to set people free, not to bind them to rituals and regulations.

d) The Importance of Compassion
Jesus’ act of healing highlights the importance of compassion over legalism.

Biblical Example: The Pharisees and the man with the withered hand (Mark 3:1-6). They cared more about the Sabbath than healing.

4. THE PURPOSE OF FREEDOM

a) To Glorify God
After she was healed, the woman praised God (Luke 13:13). Our deliverance brings glory to God.

b) To Fulfill Divine Purpose
Freedom enables people to fulfill their God-given destinies and callings.

c) To Empower Others
When we are freed, we become agents of deliverance for others still in bondage.

d) To Break Limitations
Christ frees us from limitations, empowering us to walk in His fullness.

Biblical Example: Paul and Silas in prison (Acts 16:25-26). After their chains were loosed, they glorified God and brought salvation to others.

5. WALKING IN YOUR DELIVERANCE

a) Remain in Faith
After being loosed, we must continue to walk by faith, not by sight.

b) Guard Your Freedom
Galatians 5:1 reminds us to stand firm in our freedom and not be entangled again in bondage.

c) Renew Your Mind
To stay free, we must renew our minds with God’s Word daily (Romans 12:2).

d) Live in the Spirit
A life led by the Holy Spirit ensures continual freedom and victory over sin and oppression.

Biblical Example: The man at the pool of Bethesda (John 5:8-14). Jesus told him to "sin no more" after his healing, showing the need to live in holiness after deliverance.

CONCLUSION:
Jesus Christ has come to set every captive free. Just as the woman in Luke 13 was loosed from her bondage, God is ready to free you from whatever has kept you bound. Stand in faith, declare His word, and walk in the liberty that Christ has provided.
