INTRODUCTION:
When Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, He did not just stop at giving him life. He also commanded the people around to "loose him and let him go." Lazarus was alive but still bound by the grave clothes. Many believers today are spiritually alive but remain bound by various limitations, bondages, and circumstances that hinder their full potential in Christ. This Bible study explores the significance of being loosed from every form of bondage and how to walk in the complete freedom that Jesus offers.

1. THE BONDAGE OF GRAVE CLOTHES

Grave clothes symbolize anything that keeps believers from walking in the fullness of their new life in Christ.

a) Spiritual Bondage: Many are spiritually alive but still tied to sins, addictions, and unhealthy habits (Hebrews 12:1).

b) Emotional Bondage: Fear, guilt, and bitterness can act as grave clothes that weigh us down and prevent progress (2 Timothy 1:7).

c) Mental Bondage: Negative mindsets and beliefs that contradict God's Word keep us from walking in freedom (Romans 12:2).

d) Relational Bondage: Toxic relationships and influences can hold us back from fulfilling our God-given destiny (2 Corinthians 6:14).

Biblical Example: Lazarus (John 11:44) was physically alive but still bound by grave clothes. Jesus commanded, "Loose him and let him go," indicating that the process of full restoration included freedom from all that restricted him.

2. JESUS CAME TO SET THE CAPTIVES FREE

Jesus' mission on earth was not only to give life but also to bring total freedom from every kind of bondage.

a) Freedom from Sin: Through His sacrifice, Jesus broke the power of sin over our lives (Romans 6:14).

b) Freedom from Fear: Jesus offers us peace and freedom from the spirit of fear (John 14:27).

c) Freedom from Oppression: Jesus came to deliver those oppressed by the enemy (Acts 10:38).

d) Freedom to Walk in Purpose: Jesus frees us to walk in our God-given purpose without hindrance (Ephesians 2:10).

Biblical Example: The man at the Pool of Bethesda (John 5:1-9) had been bound by his condition for 38 years, but Jesus loosed him, saying, "Rise, take up your bed, and walk."

3. THE ROLE OF OTHERS IN HELPING US GET FREE

Sometimes, God uses people to help us walk in freedom by providing support, encouragement, and guidance.

a) Intercession: Praying for others can help loose them from spiritual bondage (James 5:16).

b) Accountability: Surrounding ourselves with godly friends helps us stay on the path of freedom (Proverbs 27:17).

c) Counseling and Discipleship: Wise counsel can help uncover areas of bondage and lead to deliverance (Proverbs 11:14).

d) Encouragement: Speaking words of life and encouragement can strengthen those who feel bound (1 Thessalonians 5:11).

Biblical Example: The friends of the paralytic (Mark 2:3-5) helped him by bringing him to Jesus, and as a result, he was loosed from his infirmity and forgiven of his sins.

4. WALKING IN COMPLETE FREEDOM

Once loosed, we must walk in the freedom that Christ has given us by maintaining our spiritual, mental, and emotional liberty.

a) Stay in the Word: The Word of God renews our mind and strengthens our faith to remain free (John 8:31-32).

b) Live by the Spirit: Walking in the Spirit keeps us from being entangled again by the things of the flesh (Galatians 5:16).

c) Exercise Authority: Jesus has given us the keys of the kingdom to bind and loose in His name (Matthew 16:19).

d) Avoid Compromise: Guarding against returning to old habits or mindsets that lead back to bondage is crucial (Galatians 5:1).

Biblical Example: The Israelites (Exodus 14:13-14) had been loosed from Egyptian bondage, but they needed to maintain their trust in God to continue walking in freedom as they faced the Red Sea.

5. THE POWER OF THE SPOKEN WORD IN LOOSING BONDAGE

Our words carry power and can release freedom or bind us, depending on what we declare.

a) Speak Life, Not Death: Words of faith and life open doors to freedom (Proverbs 18:21).

b) Declare God's Promises: Confessing the promises of God over your life brings deliverance and strength (Isaiah 55:11).

c) Rebuke the Enemy: With the authority given to us, we can speak against the enemy’s plans and command every chain to be broken (Luke 10:19).

d) Proclaim Freedom: Declare your freedom in Christ and speak it over every area of bondage (Galatians 5:1).

Biblical Example: Jesus (Luke 13:11-13) spoke to the woman bound by a spirit of infirmity for 18 years, saying, “Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity.” She was immediately set free.

CONCLUSION:
The call to "loose him and let him go" is a call to complete freedom. Jesus desires that we not only receive new life but that we also walk in the fullness of that life without the hindrance of spiritual, emotional, or physical grave clothes. As we trust in Him, renew our minds with His Word, and declare His promises, we can live in the liberty that Christ purchased for us. Let us break free from every bondage and help others experience the same freedom in Christ.
